I used moss from a tree and buttermilk blended together in a blender and painted it onto the pot with a pai t brush. Nature took over and caused it to get mossy.
One thing that we all need to keep in mind: as we are aging our pots, the elements are aging US! I'm glad that Linda promotes wearing hats, using sunscreen, and moving about the garden to take advantage of the shade and avoid working in the sun for extended periods of time!
I was really hoping that Linda would have a video that shows how to "muck up" flower pots-so glad I found this video. I do this with my pots, and I really like the look. Thanks Linda!
Linda playing in the dirt and paint with white shorts.... how cool are you!!! Great ideas as usual. Bye Goose....you are so adorable and such a good pup....Thank you Linda and Stuart
I've done the exact same thing for years with the addition of Water based stain. It adds an even greater depth. I also do this with all containers no matter what they are that are outside & in.
I love aged looking pots! A few other pot aging tricks that might help people out: Krylon's Ultra-Flat Camoflauge Spray Paint is even more matte than Fusion Matte and comes in good outdoors-y colors. Mr. Clean Erasers are good for removing some paint if you've accidentally put on more paint than you wanted. A fat rounded chalk paint brush works great for dry brushing on pots. General Finishes Milk Paints are another paint that holds up really nicely outdoors with no topcoat needed. This was a fun project to watch! Thanks, Linda!
Besides buttermilk and mossy dirt mixture, I was told to use also use yogurt painted onto the pots and to let them just age in place. This mixture helps with green moss growth on pots.
Another nice visit. I am smiling at you sitting on the ground playing with mud & muck. You are so special! I toi, prefer the aged pots. They have history. 🌲🦋🤗💕 Your inner child is alive & well. 🤗😏
Thanks so much! ❤️ You have given me permission to be messy and play with muck. So fun!! And the result is beautiful. I used to do murals for new homes and when people would come through to look at the houses when I was working I would say, “My mom always told me not to draw on the walls…but I didn’t listen.” 😜
I have the perfect pot to try this out on! By the way...I love your Frank Lloyd Wright earrings! So cool! But of course they're 2nd place to the gorgeous Goose . Bye bye little pup! Thank you Linda 😂😉👍
Loved the design of your faux terracotta pots/urns. You really did a great job in replicating your original. I prefer aged pots, it makes them look like they come from an ancient Roman site. Bye bye Goose. Love from sunny Sydney, Australia.
Hi Linda, Do you seal it all in afterwards so your wonderful creation is not washed off?? Wonderful technique - creating and preserving joy in gardening!!
I love this, but on the other hand my ocd cleaning tendencies wants it clean lol. That’s what I love about gardening. Everybody’s unique garden reflects their own style from pots, garden decor and chosen plants.
Good morning Linda and thank you for sharing. If you are looking for new UA-cam channels to highlight May I suggest Seasonal Designs by Dawn. I recently discovered Dawn’s channel and have found her incredibly insightful and entertaining. She’s as delightful to watch as you and Laura are. Happy gardening.
Perfect timing for me as I am hoping to do some mucking on 2 of your pots this week! Love the look & as a dog lover, I do know how attached you can become very quickly.💖
Living in the PNW we have tons of mold/mossy, so I am in between clean and mucked up. I tend to "clean" things up in the spring and let it do its thing until the next spring.
Another great video. I have your large faux concrete pot from QVC that I’m waiting to pot with a large topiary in the fall. I’d like to know how often you water your pots through the winter.
I’ve used off white lime wash on terracotta pots. I wipe it on with an old towel and wipe off the excess leaving it in the crevices and edges. It stays on because it soaks into the porous terra cotta. Certainly will try your ideas as well.
Love my pots being patina and aged looking.. I wanted to order and followed your link but I couldn’t find them, I would think even if they were sold out they would have still shown a picture of them. Normally it would show “sold out”. Hopefully there will be more, I will check back. Thank you Linda, I have many ask why do you do that to your planters.. if you KNOW.. you KNOW!! 😉🤔😀🌻🌿
I’m thinking about trying an antique glaze on my LV faux terra cotta pots…I have several and will take a while to do them all but I think I will like the continuation of the same finish on them all🙌🧡🧡🧡
Aww you two need a dog of your own now!! I age pots w either paint or yogurt/buttermilk/moss blended in the blender and painted on. Great video! How’s your husband feeling?
I think the aged pots look great in the garden of an older, traditional home. Our house is mid-century modern, so I lean towards the cleaner look, although in our typically damp environment, nothing really stays pristine for long. If I had to come up with a term for the look of most of my pots, I'd say "weathered." Out of curiosity, do the "faux aged" pots eventually age naturally on top of the muck? Do they go from "aged" to "ancient"?
us.merrypeople.com/?Australia2USA&Auto& After the end of each video Linda shares her boots/shoes/clothing/earrings etc. The yellow boots in this video are Merry People and I put the link in this comment for you. Enjoy!
Oh thanks. I got a little confused.nice pot , not sure i want to spend that much on a pot, but i do really like it. I have got a few things ftom Linda's line. Ill have to think about the pot.
Keep looking Sherry. I finally received mine. It is really nice, heavy, and gorgeous. It took me a long to time to decide which plant to put in it! Hope you get it soon,n
I haven’t watched entire video; Watching right now but I’ve always used buttermilk. It would be fun to do a comparison/race at home - one yogurt and one buttermilk 💚
I used moss from a tree and buttermilk blended together in a blender and painted it onto the pot with a pai t brush. Nature took over and caused it to get mossy.
That's how my Mom taught me. I'm from Mobile, AL. Ya'll didn't think we got that moss on everything by accident did you?
One thing that we all need to keep in mind: as we are aging our pots, the elements are aging US! I'm glad that Linda promotes wearing hats, using sunscreen, and moving about the garden to take advantage of the shade and avoid working in the sun for extended periods of time!
Mucked up!!! I have a friend who cleans hers yearly! I offered to buy her two new ones for every mossy one she had😂😂
I was really hoping that Linda would have a video that shows how to "muck up" flower pots-so glad I found this video. I do this with my pots, and I really like the look. Thanks Linda!
I like the aged look when mother nature stains the pot. Learn something new today Thank you.

a garden is always in flux and aging and decay and moss and dirt are so organic . To me its what makes a mature garden so captivating

I like the aged look. I’ve done several pots but don’t have the courage to muck up my new Linda Vater pots!
That's funny! 😍
I like a patina on my pots. My mum used to paint yogurt on rocks in the garden so moss would grow. I'm my mother's daughter!
I will have to try!!
I asked you this question a few videos back. Thank you for the tips!
Linda's pots all look so fantastic! So many wonderful ideas.
Good morning Linda...I bought two of these and I'm going to do this technique on them. I love this! Have a fabulous Sunday.
Great tutorial, Linda! I like the aged look, too! Bye, sweet Goose. I hope you come again sometime for a visit! 🥰
Thanks so much! ❤️ You have given me permission to be messy and play with muck. So fun!! And the result is beautiful. I like the aged look on concrete. Mossy and stained!
I like the aged look only on concrete. Yours look great!
Your so stylish even in your garden!
So glad you showed how to do this.new statuary also could use these techniques.thank you
I have the perfect pot to try this out on! By the way...I love your Frank Lloyd Wright earrings! So cool! But of course they're 2nd place to the gorgeous Goose . Bye bye little pup! Thank you Linda 😂😉👍

Awe I will miss sweet goose!! I know y’all will as well. Loved the video.
Love your pots 💕 I aged mine using old house paint and decking oil to great effect 😂👍 rusty look
I love your creative technique!
They sure look beautiful!
pristine and new looking
This video is so relaxing. The pots look so good!
I like the mucked up look personally looks like it just goes with the garden beds.

I ve been waiting patiently for you today!!
Mucked up, of course! I was just going out to do this when I spotted this video! Thanks!

I will!
I like terracotta aged, very much so!
Love this idea. Thank you so much!!!!
Your really good at that!! Really enjoy your channel!!
I like the mossy look.
I like most of them mucked up…but a few left pristine!
It's too dry here for moss, but I have used paint to faux finish pots. I like the aged look.
Mucked up for me 😊
Gorgeous

Aging for cohesiveness is good. Love pots aged green mossy (but black mold is gross).
I’m thinking about trying an antique glaze on my LV faux terra cotta pots…I have several and will take a while to do them all but I think I will like the continuation of the same finish on them all🙌🧡🧡🧡
I like all your aged concreate pots even with the green mold. I don’t have any concrete pots.
Aww you two need a dog of your own now!!
I age pots w either paint or yogurt/buttermilk/moss blended in the blender and painted on.
Great video!
How’s your husband feeling?
I like both ways
aged is how i like them thanks for showing me how.

Oh yes! Layers of aging over my layers of muck😂🤣😂
Aged for sure!🪴
Love aged pots!!
Loved, loved, loved this video!!
Love the poss. What type boxwoods? I missed it.🙁
Love your little mosquito’s with watering cans on the intro.
Is it live or memorex! That took me back!
When it rains, or when you hose the garden, does it rinse off?
Nope!
I will miss seeing sweet Goose!
Me toooo!
So fun! 💕
Good information 👍
Dawww doggie ❤️
Love the aged look.
I like the aged look
mossy and aged is the best!!!!
I paint pots with lime mixed with water.
Amazing 🌷🌷
Where did you find your cute yellow garden boots?
us.merrypeople.com/?Australia2USA&Auto& After the end of each video Linda shares her boots/shoes/clothing/earrings etc. The yellow boots in this video are Merry People and I put the link in this comment for you. Enjoy!
What is the material in the faux concrete planter made of?
I love an aged pot. I prefer the mossy look which grows for me on rocks pretty easily in my garden so I try to spread that around to my pots.
The pot in your QVC line doesn't have the base that the one in the video had. Was this 2 different pots?
The pot on qvc is like the first pot she showed in the front yard.
Oh thanks. I got a little confused.nice pot , not sure i want to spend that much on a pot, but i do really like it.
I have got a few things ftom Linda's line. Ill have to think about the pot.
I did not see your pots on qvc..Do you still sell them?
I definitely like my pots aged
I'm of the mucked up mind set.
Antiek was pot😇😄
Do you leave all your pots out thru the winter
Forget the paint! For a natural green moss patina on terracotta and concrete, simply smear with plain yoghurt and let Mother Nature do her thing.
That works great… But right now it is very hot dry and windy so wanted to speed things up a bit! Thank you :-)
Like actual food? I never thought to try this! Why does the moss begin to grow on the Terra cotta?
Aged , mossy pots are “ my one weakness .”
I like clean looking pots. I wish that I didn’t because it is more work keeping them clean!
It is but if it matches your look it’s worth it:)
Who knew??!!
Mucked up.
I like both, aged and pristine, but the aged process sure looks like fun!
…Memorex…I haven’t heard that in years! 😂
The mossier the better!
Love all thing worn and old especially in the garden. Can’t wait to do more of these when the weather cools down a bit. Just too hot for me.
Can't find this pot on QVC, they must be out😕
Keep looking Sherry. I finally received mine. It is really nice, heavy, and gorgeous. It took me a long to time to decide which plant to put in it! Hope you get it soon,n
Definitely like aged, mossy,dirty!!
The more mucked up the better!
Can u not just order them from market already aged?
I love muck.
🙌🏻🙏👍
I age my pots by painting with watered down plain yogurt…..seems to attract moss and lichen
Definitely old, mossy with that white salty patina.
What about putting yogurt on them. Try that.
I haven’t watched entire video; Watching right now but I’ve always used buttermilk. It would be fun to do a comparison/race at home - one yogurt and one buttermilk 💚
Age… with moss.
Mucky for sure😂
