Charlie, thanks for posting another great video and review about the new 370Z! Can't wait to see it in HD. Really enjoyed the footage of the car moving through Red Rock Canyon. About how long in distance is the entire scenic drive through here and are there any areas along the route for spirited driving?
Z350 owners will not like to read this, but Z370 beats pretty much everything on Z350. Well done Nissan, you guys got this pretty good this time. *thumbs up*
Wow! Thanks for posting this man... I didn't know that the Camaro's peak power was rated at such high RPM's. I guess I'll have to go back on what I said then.
yea first view and comment , this car is amazing i love it, incredible engine nissan uses in this, im curious is to how the 7 speed auto performs and who manufactuers it.
First of all kid. I was referring too Stock for an Evo. And 2nd. You do have an eclipse engine with a Turbo. It is a 4g63T. A slightly modified eclipse engine. woopie do. It has titanium cylinder sleeves and stronger 2 bolt mains. It is still an eclipse engine.
I completely agree with you man, I would take the Camaro any day. Even though the horsepower output is higher for the Z, it makes that kind of power at 7,000 rpm. Which, if I'm not mistaking, is barely below the redline. Also, the peak torque isn't made until 5,000+ rpm... so, the Z's ratings can be kind of deceiving.
Has anyone seen this car up close in person? I ask this question in particular regarding the headlight design. It's definitely growing on me the more I study it. But what's more is the succession of the little divets (inboard) of the headlight that follow the strong crease from the A-pillar to the leading edge of the nose. At first glance I thought those were LED daytime running lights - sort of like what you would seen an an Aston Martin V8 Vantage or DB9. Any thoughts?
I worked for Nissan during this time frame. As a technician, and I can say it wasnt all Nissan. Part of it was because of the choice of tire brands. It was a too soft of a tire for that car. I wouldnt say a manufaturer is scummy or shady because of a bad tire choice. They are in the buisness to make money, so they are going to put the cheapest, best performing parts they can find on their vehicles. Nissan has done it for years... but until recently they havent been so lucky...
@hanstaILL LOL. Yea, I sat in a 370 at a Nissan dealer this week. AMAZING interior. Has absolutely everything, and quality is awsome. They are a crazy car for sure.
i like this car!, you can see the rear of it has some traits from the original 240z,260z!, it looks better then the 350z, its smaller, its lighter and its got a engine thats very much similar to the r35 gtrs vr38dett, it gets my thumbs up!
Quick question: When the front and rear tires are different sizes you can't do an X pattern when you do a tire rotation so do you just swap driver and passenger sides?
370z is a nice car. I test drove a 2007 350z at the dealership and was shocked that a 300+ hp car felt so anemic, I also own a 2005 Titan and that 5.6L V8 is a beast, so what did I do? I still own the truck and I'm keeping my 2007 mazda rx8 as well, its a better car imoa!
Yeah, it sucked buying so many new tires. I just got a new Jeep Wrangler today so I'm pretty stoked. Hopefully the tires will last at least a year haha.
Sure, for an NA engine, you're right, thats pretty good. If that's your cup of tea. I've been there and done that with the VQ and consistently came away unimpressed. As far as a TT on the VQ, I'm not talking about having to modify the engine. That was never the point, I'm talking about factory engines here. I mean if I take a LSA V8 and put a supercharger on it, I could beat the V10 in the M5 all day long, what's your point?
Love the car but the fact that the oil cooler simply just does not work well enough for track conditions is a bit of a turn off. Maybe I'll gain more interest when Nissan addresses the problem.
They have put an improved oil/coolant heat exchanger on it but you would still do well to mount an air to oil external cooler for sustained high-performance use. I have a 2019 370Z sport coupe 6MT and I spent a whole afternoon driving very fast down twisty coastal roads from the Oregon border to the SF bay area and had no problem with elevated oil temps.
I went to my local Nissan dealer the week the car went on sale and asked this very question myself. Unfortunately, he told me that the Sport Package comes standard with chin spoiler up front and rear tail spoiler - so there was no possiblility no getting the car like we saw at the LA auto show - at least for the balance of 2009. Who knows what M.Y. 2010 will bring!
@93Gatorchomp93 I prefer the smooth texture the old 350Z had on the dash.. 370z dash looks like it needs rubbing down with 800 wet and dry sandpaper! Seriously considering this car though!
nismo version of the Z is the car already with everything aftermarket done for you just that its going to be nissan made..like mopar for the challenger and chargers. coupe its just... coupe. and touring might come with like..different types of seats and like navigations and so on so forth the track version comes with brembos and a couple other things you might need in a track
335 is nice.. it already has TT's though. I don't know if you're into modding your car but if you get a g37 or 370z (both naturally aspirated). then youcan put TT's on it yourself and I hear they are pushing 400+ engine hp. i mean you can still upgrade the turbos on a 335. but i think that if u get a 370z there will be hella aftermarket parts for it. that is, if you are into that kinda thing. me? i'm getting a g37 kinda for the same reason u said.. affordable luxury. it is also reliable.
The funny thing is that I'm not even an Evo owner, and I don't care for the car too much, I just know that it is a fast little asian car, probably just like the Z. I personally would never buy a 370z or an Evo, I've got better taste than that.
@CasterTown No I agree with you. I didn't really say what I meant properly. What I mean is, there are a lot of rich or working class blokes who grew up driving automatic corollas and had to learn a manual on their friend's VW. They are comfy enough with a clutch, but maybe can't match rev's on downshifts. Now they have money and they aren't about to go out and buy an '80's GTi to learn how first. In fact I think MOST sports car owners are posers and Nissan knows it.
@CasterTown Case and point: my father is a complete poser. He drives a Cayman S but doesn't like to take it past 5000 RPM and has "never floored the accelerator." Why didn't he just get the regular Cayman, or a Lexus ES for that matter. You know I think I'm kind of proving your point. From a business perspective Nissan is smart because of all the posers. But I have to agree with you from an enthusiast's perspective. People who want syncro-rev should just get an automatic.
Hell, what Am I saying.. at least this car has the engine in the right place and doesn't rely on electronics to keep it from spinning like a top on tight corners or in the wet.. Cayman might be better (slightly) but not the 911.. not in terms of pure mechanical grip anyway.
you may also want to look into some information on electrical issues that bmw has had in the past. i had a 2001 530i.. (i know it's about 8 yrs. old so they may have made improvements since then). but bmw is notorious for electrical issues. I had a problem with the electrical system and rain sensing wipers (stupid, i know) and it costs $2k to fix it. good thing it was covered under warranty though. anyways, if it concerns you, do research on the quality of the car as a whole.
Yea but who wouldn't get the sport package. 2,000 you get sport suspension, Rays Engineering Rims, Aero package, Performance tires, VLSD, and sport brakes.
Pretty sure he had one of those modded 350z proclaimed into a 370. You Evo guys need to relise that the reason why you can "beat" cars in your class is because of the better handling and AWD. That is all. Evo 8s have what 270HP in a 4g63 Eclipse engine? @ 3200lbs? That rallys you a 13.2 on perfect conditions((including driver) the 370 which is RWD pushed a iirc 13.5 in Car and driver Feb issue. all 1/4 mile. The AYC is what keeps the Evo great at handling but they blow on the highway.
@VietnamEarObserverf If you're racing it you'd likely turn it off. No traction control meens you have complete control over how your car drives as there are no electronic imputs telling you that they know better. Also if we want to do power slides turning it off helps also :P
@CasterTown So how then does a person learn how to rev match if they aren't allowed to ever drive in a car where it matters until they know how? People buy sports cars for a lot of reasons.
As I said, the G37/370Z could be the car for you if that kind of thing is your cup of tea. Personally, at the end of the day I'd prefer to be driving a European car. Compared to pretty much any Euro car, these rides we've been talking about just look like econo-sports cars. Now that's not always the case. With European cars you pay to play--I would much rather buy a 370Z than pay for an oversized Benz sedan with extremely lackluster performance and a bloated price. So, they serve their puprpose.
After all there is still several thousand old Nissans on the road to this day... from the 1960s Datsun 210s, to the famous 1970 240Z. I dont see that many 1960 BMWs around anymore.... god forbid a 1980s BMW. And you mentioned 1 year of a car. I think the first year of the M had problems.... rule #1 of buying a car... never buy the first year of a car.
Nah, it's just the video doesn't do it justice. It sounds better than a 350. It still has the hollow sound, but with more warble to it, kinda like a VW R32. Here's what it REALLY sounds like: watch?v=zwvtYllqykg
Having had extensive experience with the VQ engine myself, the engine is fairly weak. I'm not the first one to notice this either, watch reviews of the G37 for example. All the time reviewers are saying that sure, it can be fun to drive, but the engine doesn't even feel like its got 330hp working for it. Maybe if the VQ was FI... Now, take for example the N54 Twin-Turbo Inline 6 from BMW, now there is a powerful engine. Even though it is only rated at 300hp, it makes a joke out of the VQ.
I know the VQ engine well, I owned a G35 previously, and the engine in the 370 (and G37) is only a very slight modification of that engine. That engine is fairly weak, and Nissan/Infiniti always overstate the HP by a good amount. Watch any review of the G37 and if your attention span allows it, you will hear them saying that the engine doesn't even feel like 330HP. As far as the Evo goes, what you've said just shows me how you little you know about cars yourself..
I never claimed Americans invented English. What I merely pointed out was that the person in this video pronounced all the words correctly according to the dictionary. I did this because smeg obviously seemed to take exception with the way the words were being pronounced. America did make English the universal language though. How do you like them apples?
Killer engine note, man sr20de/ve/vet/det vq25det/30det/30de/35de/35hr rb20det/25det/26dett/30det now the vq37 joins the list of killer engine notes made by nissan engines. Heard Nissan is looking to turbo the next z, maybe drop the vq30det in it!
The touring adds things like leather trim, leather power seats that are heated, a center console nav system and upgraded sound system. The Nismo is more of a track oriented performance car, with suspension, brake and exhaust mods.
i really do apologize if i'm being too critical, but what's the point of taking the car out of the showroom if all you're gonna talk about are manufacturer's specs? i mean, you went through some twisties, you brought the car to the race track aaaand....? dude... how was the driving experience???
Okay, now I agree with Randy Pobst, this engine note is horrible, sounds really bad in the upper revs. The 350Z had such a sweet high revving smooth V6 sound, this sounds like a V8 with some weird mechanical whine behind it. Great car but the sound...
um i drive a wrx so i dont know why im sticking up for an evo... but you can put a 20g (turbo) on an evo without changing any internals and spank the ass of that 370.
GTR Similarities...the Roof Line? I would suggest that this guy needs to compare a 240z which gave birth to this car. It is all 240z including the Roofline
@crazypackie they are nice, bot not the best. still heavy and kinda big. had a more tuneable engine though. I like my 2003 350z better than the 370z which in fact is lighter than the new Z and better looking
Also before spewing out shit saying I know little about cars myself without actually backing it up or saying what is wrong with my comment. Why don't you explain to me how the 3000GTs and Dodge Stealth, The Eclipses GS, GST,GSX,.Including the Eagle Talon's TSI included... All has Trash Transmissions and just massive massive issues with really important parts? Everycar will have something go, but when your AWD system, motor or trans fucks up bad and it effects all models. Then what do u call it?
As well, watch any review of the G37 for example, at some point in the review the person tasked with driving the car will notice how it doesn't even feel like its putting anywhere near 330hp down. Nissan is desperate to add their latest entrance into the horsepower wars, and they depend on ignorance like yours to sell their cars (that and little asian guys who like dragon stickers). With the N54, the engine is rated at 300hp, and I'm willing to bet it puts down alot more to the road than the VQ.
@wideopen704 Why are you comparing a fully loaded Z to bare bones vette? OK, loaded Z: 40k. Loaded vette: near 60k. What's your point? I disagree about the vette being much cheaper to maintain. Nissans are like Hondas as far as reliability. Yes, Vettes are faster, that's it.
@wind2404 Thats sad if thats your dream car. I own a hr 350 and 370 is really a buchery of the interior compared to the 350 an the exterior is still subjective, but still growing on me...
lmao. Ok. Sure kid. That comment has nothing to do with my overall knowledge on cars. Try going to school for cars and gettings degrees in Automotive as well as working and learning through cars for over 12 years. I am sure you can claim that as well. the VQ37HE is not a "weak" engine. For a V6 3.7 L it does well. maybe the 333HP does not "Feel" like it because the G37 is one heavy some of Bitch. Ever think of that? Has the tuning and supenstion? there is so many factors on HP stat.
That seems about right. To me this car looks like a toy, it is has an almost comedic sense about it, like even the car itself doesn't consider itself a true contender. The Evo should definitely walk this car, Evo's are pretty mean and I think that is something that people often forget.
Dude I know it has paddle shifters and that doesn't mean it's a 6speed manual. The paddle shifters are for the 7speed automatic transmission. Maybe if you have been a bit more observant yourself, you would notice that it doesn't have a clutch pedal and the gear shifter has a P,R,N and a D before you could use the paddle shifters. visit the nissan website and youll see what I mean. I dont know why this idiot thinks hes fooling everyone saying its a 6speed manual @ 3:10 when obviously it isn't...
Charlie, thanks for posting another great video and review about the new 370Z! Can't wait to see it in HD. Really enjoyed the footage of the car moving through Red Rock Canyon. car is beautiful, it resembles the z31 1980s body style, which is unarguably the best looking car ever made.
I completely agree with you man, I would take the Camaro any day. Even though the horsepower output is higher for the Z, it makes that kind of power at 7,000 rpm. At first glance I thought those were LED daytime running lights - sort of like what you would seen an an Aston Martin V8 Vantage or DB9. Any thoughts?
I can't wait to see one of these on the streets so I can race it with my 2009 335i coupe!!!
nice review of the great car!!
An automatic Z test car? Thats gotta be a bit boring.
Man, that is a good looking car. I'm looking to buy a 2008 Infiniti G37 but that is nice !
I think I'm going to purchase this new 2009 370z it's an amazing upgrade to the 350z
@hanstaILL LOL. Yea, I sat in a 370 at a Nissan dealer this week. AMAZING interior. Has absolutely everything, and quality is awsome. They are a crazy car for sure.
this car is amazing! love it.
@wideopen704 Wrong. Base 2011 C6 Coupe is 49k, please look at chevy's website. Base 2011 Z is 31k. Thanks for playing.
wooo! roadfly goes high quality!
i like this car!, you can see the rear of it has some traits from the original 240z,260z!, it looks better then the 350z, its smaller, its lighter and its got a engine thats very much similar to the r35 gtrs vr38dett, it gets my thumbs up!
Quick question: When the front and rear tires are different sizes you can't do an X pattern when you do a tire rotation so do you just swap driver and passenger sides?
On my 2019 370Z sport coupe with the staggered wheels and unidirectional tires you can't rotate them at all.
It's a public road with lots of hikers, bikers, and old folks in big cars driving around.
You don't rotate the tires if they are staggered wheels. If you are getting uneven wear you need an alignment.

Well,he very well said you could either get auto or manual versions of the car.
@93Gatorchomp93 I prefer the smooth texture the old 350Z had on the dash.. 370z dash looks like it needs rubbing down with 800 wet and dry sandpaper! Seriously considering this car though!

@VonTrousers Yea.. It's Noisy!!! But i play my Music loud so it doesn't really bother me ... ^^
The 370z has two option: a Synchro Rev 6 speed manual or a 7-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters
@Mojitocubano between 1:53 and 1:58 mark you can see the car is an automatic.
335 is nice.. it already has TT's though. you guys probably get bimmers and other euro autos for cheaper than the US right?
you guys need to up the video quality. for a a sponsored show the you should at least have a high quality option if not HD

Hell, what Am I saying.. at least this car has the engine in the right place and doesn't rely on electronics to keep it from spinning like a top on tight corners or in the wet.. Cayman might be better (slightly) but not the 911.. not in terms of pure mechanical grip anyway.
ITs the best for any where near that price in bang , value and quality.
you may also want to look into some information on electrical issues that bmw has had in the past. i had a 2001 530i..
They should put the synchro-rev match in the G37 four-door
As I said, the G37/370Z could be the car for you if that kind of thing is your cup of tea. Personally, at the end of the day I'd prefer to be driving a European car. the headlights were looking similar to an elise but the camera is far far off.

@partycake Fair enough. :-) I love Porsches but economics mean I have gone back to the old Z car.. Enjoy.
but this assist is optional.u can still turn it off if u like
buy the 335i because it is the best all round car and it has the engine of the year 2007 and 2008
Same with the Nissan. VQ37VHR and VQ35HR 08and 07.
18 mpg is 13.1 L/100km CITY
26 mpg is 9.03 L/100km HIGHWAY
Killer engine note, man

now the vq37 joins the list of killer engine notes made by nissan engines.
Heard Nissan is looking to turbo the next z,
maybe drop the vq30det in it!
*crickets chirping*
Can anyone tell me the difference from a 370z Coupe to a 370z touring and 370z nismo?
The touring adds things like leather trim, leather power seats that are heated, a center console nav system and upgraded sound system. The Nismo is more of a track oriented performance car, with suspension, brake and exhaust mods.
i really do apologize if i'm being too critical,
but what's the point of taking the car out of the showroom
if all you're gonna talk about are manufacturer's specs?
i mean, you went through some twisties,
you brought the car to the race track aaaand....?
dude... how was the driving experience???
Okay, now I agree with Randy Pobst, this engine note is horrible, sounds really bad in the upper revs. The 350Z had such a sweet high revving smooth V6 sound, this sounds like a V8 with some weird mechanical whine behind it. Great car but the sound...
@seauryakumar and way more than that in South Africa. Cheap in the US.
if your asking about the MPG...a sports car isn't what your looking for.
@hanstaILL its all about performance
um i drive a wrx so i dont know why im sticking up for an evo... but you can put a 20g (turbo) on an evo without changing any internals and spank the ass of that 370.
tha hatch is actually made out of metal for proper weight distribution
great car, but I don't like it being too small, doesn't support 4 people
wow that car sounds really great on the track!
Who's talking about a 1.6? This is a 3.7, and 18MPG city is normal for this size.
THE Z CAR IS BACK!!!! i hope that twin terbo this car next year!!!! oh yea
but what a bad ass 30 g car!!!!!!
@VonTrousers Sports cars r meant to be loud!! If u want a quite car then get a lexus or bmw!!!!!
Duh, I know that. But you said it(THE ACTUAL CAR IN THE VIDEO) wasn't auto, so why don't you just admit you were wrong and just leave it at that.
Y did they change the exhaust the g37 sounds better
@wideopen704 Why are you comparing a fully loaded Z to bare bones vette? OK, loaded Z: 40k. Loaded vette: near 60k. What's your point? I disagree about the vette being much cheaper to maintain. Nissans are like Hondas as far as reliability. Yes, Vettes are faster, that's it.
hey HCNguyen86. i've never seen plastic that looked or felt cheaper than another. all plastic is cheap. that is why it is used as much as it is
it can if its not stock
but i go for the 370z
@wind2404 Thats sad if thats your dream car. I own a hr 350 and 370 is really a buchery of the interior compared to the 350 an the exterior is still subjective, but still growing on me...
I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to remove the spoiler.
lmao. Ok.
If you have been observant,it is a paddle shifter car. Not auto.
Same difference.
convertible version will come out. wait a few years.
0-60 in 4.7 seconds it matches the 135i. obviously greater than the 335.
