You’re not crazy, Kanami was influenced by Van Halen. This is what Kanami tweeted when EVH died: Eddie Van Halen-sama… I got to know about tapping from your Eruption, and I have been writing instrumental songs hoping that one day I could create phrases like yours that pierce our hearts… You were a guitar hero I admire. May you rest in peace.
I am impressed by your always wonderful and accurate explanations about Band-Maid.Maybe you know. In Akihabara Japan, there lot of maid café with a character like Miku, and originally, Miku worked as a maid café waitress in that appearance.
As a Van Halen fan (not a Van Hagar fan), I had never heard "Humans Being" before. After listening, I see how it triggered. But, such as with a lot of Kanami and Akane's compositions, (most notably imo Take Me Higher and the "band which shall not be named"), they take a thread and pull, tease and weave a completely new and complex version through multiple variations. They remind me of that scene in Amadeus where Mozart takes Salieri's "basic" composition and teases it into a masterpiece in like 2 minutes.
I was listening to some 1970s Van Halen today. Still in my "fun" playlist for gaming (along with all of Band-Maid). Also: yay Tiny Hat! We don't get to see tiny hat enough. Thanks as always for the fun NittPicc!
The little glimpses of character given in this video, makes it my favorite official non-live video. I'm still waiting for the day they put out a video where Miku is betting on horses.
The gesture (or dance) which Miku was doing in the song at 7:25 is what she was doing when she was working in "Maid Cafe" before making Band-Maid. Come to think of it, the idea of an ordinaty girl on every corner has became "Band-Maid", and I think that’s an unbelievable event.
It's a magic spell to make the food taste better. During omaginai time you'll hear her say kyun kyun, which is the verb to become cute and moe moe whichnis the anomonopia for cute. The dish is called omurice. It's rice fried in ketchup stuffed in an omlette and the maid writes something cute in ketchup on top. They're quite skilled at it.
First video where they start showing member "personalities." And speaking of "duets" listen to the live version.... And props for mentioning Van Halen!
Welcome Home Awesome Princess NittPicc! I hope you are having a wonderful day. I remember Akane saying in an interview that this video was her favorite to film because the directors encouraged them to break stuff. I really like the look of frustration and resignation on Miku's face when she notices that Akane is devouring the plate of food she carefully crafted, Misa is getting drunk in the corner, and Kanami is trying to hug Saiki while Saiki is relaxing with her feet up in a chair. It's kind of like, well the inmates have taken over the asylum, so she might as well go with the flow. Congratulations on getting the ad, you were an excellent spokesperson for them. So, I guess that makes you a spokesperson, actress and a model, in addition to being an awesome reactor, influencer and professional music teacher, a real Rennaissance woman. Please take very good care of yourself and have an amazing week. I'm looking forward to your next Band Maid Sunday.
Wow nearly 20K subs, good on you 🤗 Great song and I can never get enough of Kanami fawning over Saiki, just gorgeous. I was watching a fan cam from their last US tour and there's was this delightful side stage shot of Saiki brushing Kanami's hair, a true rock and roll Sisterhood, cheers Po 👍🍻
Of course the live versions of this are amazing. Both have EPIC guitar & bass 'battles' ♥ I'm flying out this afternoon. Gonna be in Japan for 9 days! Gonna see Band Maid & The Warning on the 12th while I'm there! 😎
Miku was performing a magic spell so the patron, in a maid café, will remember eating there forever. In every concert she will have magic spell time, “the most important part of the show.” It’s difficult to explain so I suggest watching a video of her magic spell time.
What is really interesting is that in the studio, the drum/guitar bridge turns into a bass/guitar battle and Akane is rarely praised for her work on it live. I guess I am lucky that I have heard this live both ways.
Each version hits in a different way. Have to admit that great as the bass/guitar face off is as live entertainment, it does interrupt the flow of the song. The straight version not only flows, but allows you to appreciate what Kanami and Akane are doing together.
I get as much Santana as Van Halen from the solo. MV or live though, Akane should not be ignored during the solo section. Perfect seasoning for the main guitar course. And, especially live, her transition back to the main song is a magic trick.
The "heart thing" that Miku does is taken directly from her days working in the Maid Cafes. The Maid will do that while saying Moe Moe Kyun! to cast a spell on your food and make it even more delicious! Miku incorporates this into her famous Omajinai Time during a break in the show. It's a lot of fun! But make sure that when Miku says "Moe! Moe!" that you say Moe! Moe! too. If not, she may scold you and point you out like she did to my friend Ted at the Philly show in 2022. It was hilarious!
@@charlescoleman4017 I was gonna say, the afterparties kinda blended together cuz I did DC/Philly/NYC/Boston and then Chicago, missed NJ. BUT I *do* actually remember the Philly afterparty because I chatted a bit with Champ of Medium, and saw Alan of Dicodec blunder into the poetry slam in the back room (which is where the restroom was hidden, so I'd already done the same thing). Also spent the off-day exploring a little of Philadelphia: Band-Maid is good for US as well as Japan tourism! They got me to Denver and Minneapolis as well the next year 😀
The LIVE version is even better! Not as good as the Zepp Tokyo LIVE version, but that was taken off UA-cam ahead of a DVD release along with the Classic Studio Coast stuff and can now only be seen on the Chinese site Bilibili since the don't respect copyrights. Both versions have the famous BAND-MAID Call & Response "Battles", but the older one is more dramatic. But the amazing thing about BAND-MAID is when Miku picked Kanami, the first thing she asked her is what drummer do you want to work with, and she said Akane, first choice. And They asked Akane who she wanted in the Rhythm Section and her first choice was MISA. And then, when they needed another singer, they found Saiki right there at their own agency. It amazes me the way everything just fell into place. And yes they have very strong public personas. How close that is to the real BAND-MAID only they know.
This is such a cool and fun video to watch! The members' personalities are on display which is super cool. Watching them kick out their snooty guests is hilarious, especially the expression on Miku's face. LOL! And yes, this is even greater when you get to see them perform it live! Nice audience participation song, too. Another great reaction NittPicc, thank you! Imay have to look at that chair too. I need a good one!
MISA MISA MISA!!!!! couldn't see it in you freeze frame (too small) so I don't know if you noticed Miku sticking her tongue out at the end MOST KAWAII THING EVER
As with a lot of other people, this song is my favorite non-instrumental song of theirs. Between the MV and the two live official videos you see almost three different songs for the price of one. Another great reaction.
Princess Nittpicc, isn't it so exciting to have discovered a band that has themusical brillince to write and record so many songs that are constantly interesting and diverse and have so many hidden gems in their. Those gems, that as a musician, you become intrigued with and want to discover more of. Listening toBand-Maid songs is like mining for precious gems.
I love how they've exploited their own tropes. Akane secretly shovels food into her mouth (shes been known to down a whole plate of food on stage without missing a beat), Misa raiding the liquor, Saiki sitting around being "too cool for school" while Kanami worships the ground she walks on, and Miku tries to be the responsible one while doing cute things. It's funny how they are aware of the things that have caught the attention of fans and play off of them again and again in videos.
Great reaction and the band really likes to play up their personalities for fun. That last scene with Saiki stepping on the guys back, that really looks like a scene from a movie I watch a very, very long time ago. I think it was "La dolce vite" by Fellini (1960) so hat's off to whomever put that in. I also saw a fan cam of Saiki stepped on the backs of members from another band they were playing with.
Also, they typically change out lyrics for choruses. And verse is rarely a copy of the first. Check out "Warning" and youll hear the differences between choruses evrn if you cant understand the language.
Yep, you don't hear the Van Halen sound alone and I'm 100% sure that was exactly Kanami's intention. 🎸With the way she's almost constantly busy with her guitar in many songs, providing details and filling things out, she often reminds me of them and i love her for that. ❤🔥🤘🏻 I won't say too much, but I'm really looking forward to your video to the live version. _____________________ 「 _"Our rock never dies ever. I love all of your reactions. I have the same enthusiasm for them as you. But the live version is so so so so so good. Watch their live performance from this year.
There is a great live video of this from the Yokohama 10 year celebration concert. It has an extended bridge with guitar and bass solos, and Saki knocks the vocals out of the park. It's different enough to be worth another reaction. Fans will watch it.
From now on I'll just call them "heart paddle thingies" though. It has a certain charm. Time for some "From Now On" while playing a video game. It's like chocolate and peanut butter. Lazy Sunday, anyone?

I really ought to listen to VH's Balance again. Kanami sent a 'thank you for teaching me how to tap' tweet when EVH died - so very maybe quite a bit of influence there!
There's absolutely some Van Halen DNA in Band-Maid... just the great guitar tones, really... some of Kanami's picking techniques and her tapping. Note that Miku plays EVH amps. They've stolen the good stuff from every great band out there, and melded them into the amazingness that is Band-Maid.
The EDVH-ish breakdown is sometimes stretched out live, like they did in Hate live. While in Hate it sounds a bit like a screaming match, that in Don't you tell me is "flirtation" especially in 2017 studio coast version.
Bravo!. I hope that next week you can watch the live version of the Yokohama Arena concert (Live Band Maid is the Best Band Maid), it is a clear example of how to develop a song on stage to make it a unique and totally different experience from the recording. Thanks NittPicc!
So, you heard the Official MV's version of the solo, three times in total at that. Can't wait till you check out the Official Live version, which I hope is your next video!
Okay now that you've seen the short version, do the live video and get the extended awesomeness! You'll get mixed reviews depending on the which version you review, Zepp or Yokohama... both have their own fans.
Fantastic musicians but terrible maids I'm afraid 😂. This is a very important MV because that's the first one where they start to develop their "characters" - the clumsy and lovely Kanami, the shy and beverage-addicted Misa, the tsundere Saiki , the gourmand Akane and the cute and mischievous Miku. The song itself is one of their standards too of course.
The first track off the incredible Just Bring It album. What I really like about this MV is the traits of each Maid are clearly defined for us. Akane's eating, Miku serving (band founder, the concept of the band, serving hard rock to the masters and princesses), Misa drinking from her flask (most probably whiskey), Mincho's worship of Saiki, Saiki's ice queen persona (she pushes Mincho away). Great song, great MV, from the best hard rock band in the world.
@@PANIC_aka_PinD Oh well my reply to you already disappeared. Which happens a lot when i speak to you. Why do you think that is, Panic, seeing as you're normally adored by YT?😏
Miku and Saiki's lyrics often vary between verses, with the same style as their music where no verse (and sometimes no chorus) is the same as the previous one.
Don't You Tell Me! Oh, wait! You just did. 🤘😂Now, let me tell you something: Some say the Carolina Reaper is the hottest chili pepper with a Scoville Heat Index of 2.2 million. Nope! It's Band-Maid with a whopping 200 Million View index! 🌶🤘🎀 Thx, Ms Picc!
Wasn't there speculation that this song was also intended as a subtle jab at their management. This song came out on Just Bring It. Their first album with mostly band written songs.
I think they had creative freedom by Just Bring It album, it's interesting to think that they might've had the idea to push their personalities into their MV's. Either way, it's all genius. I think you're right too, they don't seem like a band but just real people because of how they've played into it for so long.
Where are your glasses? You're beautiful with or without the spectacles! Perhaps my favorite MV at least for today! Also love Afterlife MV and Domination MV. You done good as usual!!!
I am trying to wear my contacts a little more so I can get used to them before I start teaching marching band this summer. 😅 But thank you! I love wearing both. 🥰
Absolutely !!!!! I've seen them three times and for me the interludes are so much fun. Miku's Magic time, Misa's Opening Ceremony, Akane's Gorilla and Banana Time and Saiki and Kanami's Japanese Lesson and Fan Questions. The best thing though was at the Salt Lake City concert last year where one of the fans brought their daughter to the show dressed in a maid costume and Miku was in tears. If you want to see it just put in "Band Maid Salt Lake City 2023 - Miku's Mini-Me". It's just so precious.
Please listen to the live version of this song. It is tremendously wonderful. kanami's guitar solo is incomparably more beautiful than the music video.
My take on it is the maids revolting after getting fed up with all the "secret" ongoings they witness. At the same time having their own "secrets". If you watch the Gold Rush interview prior to watching this video, the "secrets" of the maids are somewhat portrayed. Saiki's interaction with Kanami is an example of Tsundere.
Part of the MV, not the song but the MV coupled with the song is considered to be a jab at a former member of the management team. The Ladies had a Manager who kept trying to make Miku change how she talked and acted, and she and the other Ladies weren't having it. Hence this MV is a jab back at that individual. And you will LOVE the OLV of this song. T-R-U-S-T M-E. And it's rumored the reason MISA went so long without a Mic during live performances is that she threw her mic stand in this video. And soon you will start to seek out the "alternate" versions of all of the Ladies songs. There are videos of many of them, but unfortunately not all of them. And I wasn't hearing Van Halen, but more Triumph to my ears.
The maids posted a pic of them with The Warning now that the latter are in Japan. The Warning got there rather early, making me speculate if they’re going to create something together.
Can you help me in a debate please? An "educated person with a music degree" says that Japanese language is not melodic. He also said he has a hard time catching any melody in Band-Maid songs because of Saiki's singing. Btw, he also said he couldn't tell Miku from Saiki and said they were the same singer dressed differently. WTF? Do they really give music degrees to people like that???
I want to thank you for bringing that individual up here. I was offended when he said that stuff. Japanese not melodic like English??? Maybe if you're only watching angry samurai movies. No discernable melody!?? That was it. To paraphrase a scene in the Quiet Man I took out my book and I wrote his name in it then drew a line through it. In reality I unsubbed and left a dismissive comment. I'm not going to respond to such a nitwit. God that still makes me mad.
Whoa…I mean, at that point it sounds more like that person’s opinion rather than actually listening to what the music is a face value. I find any language other than English so refreshing because…well, I speak English everyday! …but I digress. It’s interesting that one would say something like that. Be warned my fellow masters and princesses… Believe it or not, there are schools that honor music degrees to those who don’t know much about music or never auditioned to prove that they are good enough to earn that degree. They just have to…show up. It’s weird. I’m not saying that this is the case for this person. I wonder though, what is their music degree in? There are a lot of different types of music degrees out there. I could go into depth about it, but I guess that should be more of a live conversation with everyone than anything else.

Kind of surprised you didnt go for the Live version from Yokohama.
Though this is a fun video, that one is awesome in a musical sense.
I think Kanami got drunk from eating the rum chocolates.
Woo Hoo my fave ever song.🙆♂️ BAND-MAID prove time & again that the female of the species is indeed deadlier than the male :)
... but I'm hungry now.
@@PANIC_aka_PinD You're exempt, Panic. Unless you meet a giant female black widow then you're dinner.😁
@@PANIC_aka_PinD Oh well my reply to you already disappeared. Which happens a lot when i speak to you. Why do you think that is, Panic, seeing as you're normally adored by YT?😏
@@grayh4269 Because people like stealing from you ... but we all know there is only one Gary ... worthless for others on the resale market :p .
Ah, but it's the pain males are capable of imparting while they're alive that counts and makes them as equals with the deadly female.🤔
Band Maid is love
There is an old interview where they are asked "What was your favorite MV to make", Akane picked this one because they got to break stuff.
And eat more when they had to do a retake
Band-Halen..... yes
This was the first Maid song I heard and video. It had just came out. My favorite band since. Po 🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟
Good one!
Check out Saiki's free hand during the live video.
Annual performance review:
Band - Exceeds Expectations
Maids - Needs Improvement
If you liked this version of Don't You Tell Me, just wait until you see the live version with a guitar battle between Misa and Kanami.
NittPicc , I had to laugh when you said i`m going back a little , Did you catch MISA throwing the mic stand instesd of something off the table .
No! I have to go back and watch again!!!
"About Us"
Where are your glasses? You're beautiful with or without the spectacles!
Perhaps my favorite MV at least for today! Also love Afterlife MV and Domination MV. You done good as usual!!!
I am trying to wear my contacts a little more so I can get used to them before I start teaching marching band this summer. 😅
But thank you! I love wearing both. 🥰
10:20 MISA
Ma favorite MV, even today 💙
And also my favorite song 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you for the reaction!
This is a classic BAND-MAID MV. Can you count all the Easter Eggs in it? :)
Note the LIVE versions often have a crazy Misa/Kaname battle added.
You need to watch Miku's Magic Time. Crowd Interaction
I love rum bar support🤪🍹🍻🥃
😀
DONT YOU TELL ME OFFICIAL LIVE VIDEO FROM YOKOHAMA ARENA IS EXTRA😊
This is why our MAIDs don't really get invited to parties often. You will be really disappointed if you expect them to clean up :p .
Yeah i've never seen messier Maids, but you'd be alright for food tho.👍
The Maid's don't clean up, but they clean house! I'd gladly clean up after a party that the Maid's went huts at!
@@waynebenedict5785 I'd just be happy to attend ;) .
@@PANIC_aka_PinD Me too, actually!
Live version
If you like this you’ll also like the live video
Please listen to the live version of this song. It is tremendously wonderful.
kanami's guitar solo is incomparably more beautiful than the music video.
Live, Live, Live!
I am not educated at all but to me Kanami has lots of "tone". That is the part that reminds me of EVH.
Well, her surname is "Tono" 🤣
My take on it is the maids revolting after getting fed up with all the "secret" ongoings they witness. At the same time having their own "secrets". If you watch the Gold Rush interview prior to watching this video, the "secrets" of the maids are somewhat portrayed. Saiki's interaction with Kanami is an example of Tsundere.
🤘
Who am I to dictate what you should do? But you should have react to the live version after the MV (LOL)
Buat kreaktor girll🎉🎉🎉
Mmhhh yummy... :)
The maids posted a pic of them with The Warning now that the latter are in Japan. The Warning got there rather early, making me speculate if they’re going to create something together.
Wow,Nittpicc cantik sekali ilove you full😘😘😘😘 emmmuuaach💋💋💋💋💋😘😘😘
Be warned my fellow masters and princesses…
Believe it or not, there are schools that honor music degrees to those who don’t know much about music or never auditioned to prove that they are good enough to earn that degree. They just have to…show up. It’s weird. I’m not saying that this is the case for this person. I wonder though, what is their music degree in? There are a lot of different types of music degrees out there.
I could go into depth about it, but I guess that should be more of a live conversation with everyone than anything else.
Great reaction.👍
Great song, but I've never liked the MV.😉
