As a social worker, it’s been shocking to see the Ivy League Universities not teaching critical thinking to students in the humanities. And I agree that professors should never push their political beliefs or mark people down for having different views to theirs. Can’t believe we even need to say this!
Universities has been hijacked by radical leftist ideology since 1970s. I remember when Angela Devis was visiting ussr and boasting during TV interview that environment in American universities … “changing”.
I'm surprised he is not reiterating the fact that this very issue is because of the payment to U.S. colleges from Iran and Qatar to indoctrinate our students for 30 years. We learned about this concept on *this actual podcast* with Shai Davidai, in April. So I am not sure why he is not reiterating it on *every single episode.*
This was such an uplifting and informative conversation to know that decency and common sense still exist on campuses, even in one. Out of curiosity, what is the annual fees in Vanderbilt? Pray the media will follow suit.
Dan Senor is an excellent interviewer, in this case eliciting how one university encourages debate and diversity of ideas, reigns in unlawful or rule breaking protests, and tries to provide a good educational environment for all students. My high praise for Vanderbilt and Chancellor Diermeier for providing a model for higher education.
i think where this falls apart is the artificial moral equivalence of what happened on Oct 7 in Israel to what is happening in Gaza and blaming that on Israel and not on Hamas
Loved this podcast as someone who values dialogue, but believes there are lines that can be crossed. I would have appreciated follow-up questions to the actions against students who threatened others via signs or words at the end of the podcast. He explained those against students who occupied tents and the resulting conversations, but was very vague for the latter. What was the appropriate handling in those cases?
Dude is a wokester. Whenever I hear the treat each other with respect augment, I know it’s woke nonsense. Debate has never been respectful, ever. It is by nature confrontational, what he needs to do is make sure the university is not a compilation of like thinkers. That is what woke did to universities. It let ideologues load up on like minded ideologues. Factually should not be in voted in hiring.

@@L_O27 I agree with you 💯%!
Smart stance. They will get the best students, with high ethical and critical thinking standards.

It takes a German to uphold American values

by allowing the two sides to seem equivalent, the university is essentially not being neutral

Wow! They did the right thing and expelled the law breaking students. No respect for Vandy.
Given the ugly immobilizing pro hamas mob protests, this conversation is refreshing.
