  • Here I go over a in position weld out in the feild. I had to make these welds in the hot 98° weather in the wind. Real life experiences in the oil feild. No sugar coat no fake all real and truth actual factual advice methods and technique. I am held to a high standard and need to be able to pass. I am no better then anyone and I am not the best welder. I am using my 200D pipeliner welding machine in this video outta my king ranch single axel tub rig. The other truck of mine had got some work on it. Decking it out finally. Been really busy lately and got alot going on for me. I take my life one day at a time. You could be in my position some day so dont give up. Remember dreams are free so act on them and never let them die. Give it all Ya got never let up. Please share the videos with all your friends and family. Spread the word. Most of all stay cool.

I'm retire rig welder 32 years 19-1/2 years chevron bay area.10 years Valero. I was really impressed with your great personality and journeyman skill.I did enjoy my classic two after my redface 200. Man you bring me back to the day I layed in bellholes grumbling at backhoe for a deeper hole.Ran down hand 5-p for PGE until I went to rifinerys all up hill. I was a welder at Chevron Oil on 5000 lb hydrogen pipeing 16 inch od 12 inch bore 1-1/4 chrome three days to finish one weld after three shots with cobal .And a lot a of carbon steel pipeing. My impression is you are the man great manners under pressure not just talk but a beautiful weld by no means no accident.I'm 75 now and still cherish the day I was running my own rig and loved it. The diference between a newborn baby and a rig welder is sooner or later the baby will stop crying.Keep up the good work young man. You should start your own school you do have what that requires. Greetings from the Napa Valley Thanks Jerry B

To perform an art without anyone to appreciate it is wasteful. To have the talent to perform on camera for all to see is respectable. To have the humility to own your mistakes is honorable. To share your gift with the world is awesome. Thanks for your videos. I thoroughly enjoy watching someone of your caliber at work.

Yup my Instructor is very mono tone and he doesn’t give you as much advice while conversing in the welding booth. You have to ask him questions. He answered. And there.

Hello my brother, I’m an old pipeliner from way back. I was very fortunate to attend pipeline school through the Southern Union gas company back in the day. I was a CR foreman field certified under API level. 04 my specialty was tap out and down in the ditch like we all get down there Trying to make a certified weld all the time you’re pretty bad ass. You’re a damn good welder and a good teacher. My name is Thomas I live in Santa Fe New Mexico, and I’m a retired rig Welder I greatly appreciate your videos makes me laugh to know that young people like you are stillgetting it down keep up the good work brother and may the Lord bless you be safe thank you

I started welding 2 months ago when i started taking courses at the local college and my instructor says he pushes me harder than everyone else bc he knows that i can be a a decent welder if i keep at it. im flying through the classes but only with the help of guys like you that take time out of your busy schedule to make these amazing videos so for that i thank you. keep laying dimes man, stay safe and let the arc burn

Greetings from the Napa Valley. The fact is field welding separates the scrap iron welders from the real deal. When I was your age I was bullet proof, could lift anything, climb anywhere, and above all would love every weld. I went even so far as wdo40 on my weld when the rains came in just to show off my caps. I would ring them a buff the crap out of them. I was impressed with your confidence on your bottom tie-ins no porosity that's class bro. Love your spin out wheel. Would love to see a video on your rig, how you made it. I built a few and always wanted to change things around. Made my reels from you guessed it orj rings. My lead pockets were on the very back of the bed with screens on the bottom so I could wash off the mud if needed. Enough of my crap just keep up the good work. Keep those ear plugs in, wear your glassed and try to keep out of the smoke. I know I;m crazy I liked the smell of 5p.Jerry B

Grinding a root pass down with a burr bit?? Now THAT is a splendid idea i never even thought of. Spot on!!
After passing it no probs at last workplace, dipped a fleet 5p+ root 6013 hotpass, fill and cap ASME 9 6g test on 6" sched 120 a few months ago due to a line on the xray along the side of the root where i didnt grind it out very well. We always use a 5/32 thick disk on a 4.5" grinder for backgrinding a root and taking out the wagon tracks..... now using a carbide burr would give a lovely profile for the hotpass. Thanks Wally! Going to give that idea a try next time to see how it goes👍👍

That's a great real world weld out in the field in the wind and all with LH rods. Must be some serious pressures in those pipes. Good to see your helper Brett listening and being nice & quick on the dial and keeping his back turned to prevent getting an arc flash. Would be good to see a follow up on the x-ray and a shot of the film if possible.

Cool video and kudos for your skills. Got my start on pipe at a Navy Shipyard in the mid 70s and they insisted on grinding every start on SMAW, so that habit stuck with me even now in Aerospace Welding where we sometimes do Stick with 120-18 (4130) up to 140-18 for HY130 Alloys. Mostly Electron Beam now and the rest GTAW on crazy stuff in glove box. Titanium Tantalum and a bunch of other Refractory Metals even Tungsten containers for some propulsion projects but that's all EB Welding. I'll be watching more.

I actually used to be a pipeline coating/utility inspector and when you made the remark at the end about putting the flange info up on top for the inspectors that will be coming behind you, that earned a subscribe. Everyone likes to crack jokes about inspection - a lot of times it’s justified 😂 - nonetheless, that remark said a lot about you as a person and I can’t wait to watch more of your channel.
