When I was in middle school, my choir got criticism too. It helps you learn how to be a better musician. They are performers, so they should be used to it. People can’t sugar coat everything all the time. Telling them to blend better is going to help them be better next time.
Very nicely performed! Loved hearing and seeing this teacher prepare the students for this difficult composition. My...this brought back my memories of participating in 7th grade girls chorus. Thank you!!
I much prefer this to the smooth, overly produced Pentatonix cover version. These girls obviously worked very hard to master singing while doing the movements. They are kids and not professional so good job!!! And way to go Fleet Foxes for creating this piece of whimsy.
1.They need to work on staying together in the choreography 2.They need to learn how to all sing together (Sinpranos!) 3. Smile and look at the director or it just looks like you dont care

@@avalonsignoraalmas6150 i’m not saying they shouldn’t be criticized i’m saying that if people are ONLY criticizing them it’s not a good feeling as a singer and it’s pretty discouraging. they probably know their vowels weren’t the best or whatnot. they have an instructor to tell them that.
@@carolineguzman6741, well, obviously he didn't fix the problem. Sometimes directors miss things that others catch, and sometimes they have to prioritize certain aspects of a performance over others. Also, people don't have to give you praise every time they correct a mistake you made. As a performer, you learn that critism is to help you, not hurt your feelings. It isn't like people are coming at them and saying they sound absolutely terrible and have no talent. People said work on tone and synchronization. That isn't mean. Why would that hurt their feelings?
Juliet yep but in the music industry you don’t get any wear with off tune parts! With constructive criticism they’ll learn and be the best they can be on the stage 😃
This song gives me two thoughts. 1. Someone singing this to their kid before bedtime, and, the next day, the kid saying he had a nightmare about it. 2. Someone telling a shrink about having nightmares about the song, and the shrink telling him he's been listening to it too many times, and he's losing his head.
Literally every comment is about how they need to blend or how terrible they are but you have to remember that they are not a professional choir! They are kids cut them some slack. Girls you did wonderful keep up the good work.
They did great, it's the director that sucks he should have never given them this song their voices aren't mature enough for it. As much as they might have tried they would have never been able to sing this song well

Lily Mcgovern Oh please, stop nitpicking....speaking from England I have to say I was blown away by this recital of the Fleet Foxes song. Credit where credits due...these girls did a fantastic job...I got quite emotional.
1. You guys need to blend more 2. You need to keep eye contact with your instructor 3. Facial expressions need work 4. Find the RIGHT TUNE!!! 5. Work on your crescendo!!!!!! I sorry I just had to say all that!
@@zombicat8556, they are muscisians. They need to accept constructive criticisms. This is a hard song for a middle school choir, but as someone who has been in choir for years, I can tell you that even in terms of being in middle school, that was not up to par with getting a Superior on the performance.
just a reminder to people being overly critic about the kids, Fleet Foxes sampled this in their last record Crack-Up. The guys that created the song thought this version was good enough to be on their record, so chill the fuck up
they weren't ready for this song, not saying that Middle School choirs can't be good enough to sing this properly but this choir definitely wasn't ready for winter white hymnal. Honestly the director is only harming these girls by giving them a super hard song like this. It won't help them improve it'll just make them struggle and learn things the wrong way. I don't know why he had them doing the hand claps either, it just distracted them. They might have been better if they were able to focus on the actual singing
Honestly they did great for what they were given, but I don't know why their director had them singing this song. As you said they are going through puberty their voices aren't ready for a song like this. It would have been more constructive than harmful for the girls and sounded nicer if he'd picked a song that matched their current voices
I understand what you guys are saying. They do need to blend their voices, and since there going through puberty, it's hard to do that. As a girl who goes to the rated best music school in the tri state area( I'm in middle school btw) its easy for me to do it, because I've been practicing since I was in 1st grade. For them it might not be. I think that their doing good for what they were handed, and I think they, with practice, can get a whole lot better

I’ve been in choir for years now and they did pretty well compared to some others I’ve seen it sounds like it’s their first concert so I’m not gonna hate for being jittery but they need to stop fidgeting it’s extremely distracting and takes away from the song they also need to be in time with eachother during the choreography they were all over the place and I couldn’t focus at all the also need to blend their voices you hear the different sections and tbh they were a little pitchy not gonna lie but they’re a choir not sections of one they need to be able to blend their voices as one but other than that it was ok
Pretty dresses, and what's nice is that those dresses work will all body types. My daughter's middle school never had uniform dresses, it was deemed too expensive and too hard to maintain. Only when she got to high school did they have matching outfits, and even in the first year only the select ensembles had matching outfits. The presentation was OK. I didn't mind the singing, but the clapping/finger snapping choreography should have been left out, or modified to something less complicated. The beginning was weird, I can only imagine that the kids were nervous and this was a way for the choir director to put them at ease. Even so, that is not something that I've ever seen in my daughter's middle school concerts, nor when I sang in middle school (junior high back then).
Nice job, but standing changing the sound of the lap slapping and makes it more difficult due to the increased distance. You did great despite that issue.
Keep your energy the WHOLE song, once you start the “ooos” you do not sound happy or pretty!! Also don’t pick at your ear while doing the clapping sequence 🤦🏽♀️
needs better blending, more facial expression, and if you raise your soft palette more and use more diction your sound will be less juvenile which would help tons.
They should have warmed up befor they got on stage this looks like practice and no one has *REAL* talent it sounds like talking god julliard come help them (Julliard is a music school for the best of the best)
The song is by Fleet Foxes, Pentatonix just performed a cover.
Fair point
@@Evan-dc4dz Pentatonix doesn't own choreography for that, they took it from the original composition of the song
Thank you. Good god the original is so much better.
The only reason it says fleet foxes/ pentatonix is because the song is by fleet foxes but they used pentatonix choreography
White winter hymnal is one of my all time favourites. You guys absolutely smashed it, your version is mesmerising! 🤩🤩🤩
Geez there's a lot of criticism on here for a middle school choir. I think they did a great job.

Is this a thing, like do choirs do warm ups on stage during a concert???
I never have
No
They need to work on their vowels and the different parts need to work on how to blend their voices
Lily Mcgovern I agree but I think they are young like Elementary or maybe early middle school

Iconic
Stop saying it’s not pentatonix. They used the patting that pentatonix did.(I know that the song is originally by fleet foxes)

Pentatonix doesn't own the patting somebody else did it first. Pentatonix get's the reputation for it because Pentatonix is more popular
