Today, we bring you along on a tour of the best organic market in town!
Between November and March, during high season, every Saturday morning can be spent at the Santa Cruz park, where the MOH (Mercado Organico de Huatulco), aka Organic Market pops up.
Weekly features of solo artists or bands can be enjoyed around mid-day, with either service providers setting up in the centre of the park, or non-profits - such as Palmas Unidas - a group that helps with the overpopulation of cats and dogs in the area, hosting sterilization clinics, for which they hope to receive donations for from the public.
Vendors from around the area bring their products and merchandise to the market. You will find things like: ready made meals (paella, salads, sandwiches & more), fruit & vegetables, herbs & spices, cheeses & meats (sausages and more), homemade desserts, jams, jellies, honey, nut butters and spreads, snacks, coconut drinks, juices (kombucha, tepache, smoothies), jewelry, clothing and bags, pottery, skin care products, candles, home decorations, plants, and a lot of different hand crafted items.
I was offered to have some grasshoppers, aka chapulines, a local snack/delicacy, which can be an acquired taste. Chapulines, like potato chips, come in many, many flavours, but the one I tried was fairly plain and mainly salty.
Please Support Local - stop in at the market, purchase your items from those who work hard to support their families and communities with healthy products they grow and make in the Huatulco area.
