Someone had to have brought the stems to Tubb'ys studio, that person could only be someone like the producer for Black Star liner or the studio engineer. Tubby's could not have gotten his hand on the rethym unless someone else had given him and instructed him to record Byles,Tubby's was not a producer as yet,1976.
The Earl Zero and Johnny Clarke song is not really a deliberate pirating of the song. Earl Zero was not doing the song to the satisfaction of Mr Lee furthermore he was late to the studio and they choose Clarke who was an unknown then but with good vocals,so he was asked to record the song and this was his big brake.
FYI...Jazz and Calypso Music is the grassroots of "Reggae Music" and they have American Gospel Groups that was Rapping in the 40's which is most likely influenced the yard man/Jamaicans with toasting in the 50's. They got videos on UA-cam. The Americans influence the Jamaicans and vice versa but the Yankees did it first, just my opinion...
Toasting came from American radio djs. Coxsonne Dodd said this in an interview before he died. He’s the one who told King Stitt and Count matchuki to do it so they could be different from other sound systems Toasting came from the black south, and is a form of telling stories. Dolemite was a toaster. “Signifying monkey” is a classic toast a lot of people know Rhyming to tell a story is an old black American tradition. Why do you think you can find old songs rhyming about something in early black American recordings Kurtis Blow, like most New Yorkers, don’t know their southern history. He’s just repeating what Krs-one, and Africa Bambatta started as far as hip hop coming from Jamaica. Those two guys lie like it ain’t nothing! Especially Africa Bambatta as we all know with his “personal “ issues
