As an old geezer and an ex Ofcom employee (ages ago) it still amazes me that your video attracted that attention. In particular I am not sure why they would contact the dealer or the RSGB.

I've been a ham for year's and also CB prior to 1981. I personally don't mind what type of radio anyone uses or which CB or Ham bands they use it on, the more people speaking and making use of the frequencies the better.
Sounds to me like poor Andy has found a Jelouse green eyed monster. I don't know there's always at least 1 who tries to ruin everyone else's enjoyment.
Hopefully the killjoy will crawl back under the rock they came from and stay there.😂🤣😂🤣.

Encouraging radio communication - speak with people all over the world shuld help to secure peace and understading between humens worldwide.
Just think if pars of the internet content was not avaible for all, but you did have to get a internet operator licens to communicate with other countries ;)
But POC radios is also avaible so noise free ways to communication is possible so all the noise and problems should not be a problem like it was 10-20 years ago.

Spot on. Ran a club in the 80's which had both CB users and Licenced Ham users. The number of complaints we got from older ham users (not members) was just out of order. Everyone was using their rigs in line with the regulation. Anyway, when the Pub we used closed down, we closed the club, in reality, the airwaves were full of muppets (as we called them) parents giving their kids a CB to keep them in their bedroom, thinking they were safe. We donated the club's cash to the local hospital and that got us in the local newspaper, however, the moaning old farts put it out that they got us shutdown. Any we had a good few years as a club and we all did well in future careers. Keep the Videos comming.

I spent 38 years using MY cb radio as a truck driver here in the USA. My very first cb was a Johnson ‘White Face’ tube type way back in 1967. I retired from trucking in 2015 and my radio has been resting peacefully on the shelf since; however, I’ll be returning to the ‘big road’ once again soon to live out the rest of my life full time…and, yes, my cb radio will be with me!

It has become a mess in Germany. CB for hams was a no-no. Today There is no more hamradio. Cable and internet have occupied the band and 70-cm is a playground for remote controls, traffic lights and thermometers. Dont mention 2.4 GHz. The result is do what you want and take care nobody knows. Want to play with AM radio? The hole band is your as long as you dont mess up the internet. First thing I did with my FT-4X open the bands (to use it with a perfectly legal transverter of coarse).

The sensible thing to do is for Ofcom to change the rules so that radios which are to CB spec or higher are allowed on the CB band. Ofcom are consulting right now to make the bands more free and save themselves admin, this move would help all parties. The argument against, is that CBers would not buy CBs but ham radios... well, the news is... they already do.🤫

Cause they are jealous? Nah its just cause they are sheer and utter idiots. Keep the videos coming!

Agree with you on that, have neighbours who complain when I start my car, let it run while I close my gates then get on my way, I had to put up with council cars watching as I did this. I had dashcam running watching them parked on wrong side of the road headlights on full exhaust fumes visible too, whilst on a bend, with cars struggling to get passed them. On top of a sharp right hand hill, sent them a video never got a response 😂. My car was still on my own drive exiting forwards gates are 14 feet from the end of my driveway, have a long drive, so I can stay put until clear to go, dash cam was excellent wouldn't be without it. Hi naughty Andy lol, I agree with what you said “It's none of your business”. As an Advanced UK Amateur Licence holder, I always get a grilling from several old schools for not using /P at the end of my call when I operate SOTA. One GW station went as far as to say that he was reporting me to Ofcom. Oh, Dear! Lol. Unfortunately for these guys who like to preach it is not regulation nowadays to have to give out /P, /M however, they like to educate me on it, yet it is them who gets all annoyed when they are politely put in their place, and some don’t ever want to speak to me again for making them look a fool lol. In my world, it is none of my business how others run and operate their station. What these guys who like to take a strike at others don’t realize is, that bullying other hams is a very serious matter. In my logbook, interfering with how others operate is perceived as bullying. Hope to catch on-air someday Andy, 73s MW0NLG / OH9NLG - Malc

Hi Andy, sorry to hear that someone complained about your video... It's just a shame because radio is radio whether it be Ham,CB or PMR.... Also if anything, your videos have encouraged people to look into getting their license, i've seen several comments where people are talking about taking their foundation as a direct result of your video. Ofcom themselves do not put any resource or care into people using non-type approved sets.. On another note, have you been active on the PMR bands ? I say this because PMR 446 has become a lot more popular in recent times and it's being used as a UHF CB band. I posted the comment on your other video but i'm not sure if you saw it. Either way keep up the good work and ignore the trollers.

Also, the RSGB should be lobbying OFCOM to allow licenced operators to use their equipment on CB and PMR frequencies. Licence d operators using their call signs and telling CB people about ham radio would encourage more to have a go at gaining a licence. The more people in the hobby, the greater our voice.

It is obvious to me that you or someone from the Ham radio dealer(at your request) you bought the Icom IC-705 and the Yaesu FT-891 from has done a modification to these radios so that you can transmit on the CB band. If you were transmitting with actual CB radios from manufacturers like Uniden, Midland or Cobra, you probably would not have received this complaint.

As a Ham (M7) licence holder and a CB'er I think that we are at a pivotal moment in radio. Those who are technology driven are in an arms race that has no sensible end, where power outputs are reaching ridiculous levels including the use of high gain and very expensive beam antennas, often breaking their licence conditions. Digital formats also muddy the waters and sometimes finding real voice conversations on FM or SSB is near impossible. Me I like to chat with voice QSO as well as DX with my 10 watts. We should never forget that the bands have a high commercial value and will be snapped up if we fail to use them fully and sensibly. In this Hams are just as guilty as those who prefer CB. The moaners about your activities are the problem not the solution.

Got to comment on this as I have had a CB-radio licence since I was a teenager (I'm now 60+) and in the process of taking my HAM-radio licence. Met a lot of nice people out there. For many years, I didn't use the cb-radio at all, but a few years ago, I bought a new radio and installed it in my car for offroad use. A few weeks ago, I discovered that I could get going about a HAM-licence through an online course and I have ordered a book as well which is particularly geared towards norwegian laws and regulations. It is more physics than I thought, but all the practice will pay off, I dream about restistance, watts and volt at the moment.

It's just crazy, whilst I agree things should be approved before widespread use really is it a problem that I am transmitting for just 30 seconds on a set powered by 5 quids worth of Duracell's that will come straight out once I'm done and the radio will sit on my shelf gathering dust? Whilst all around cheap Chinese electronic devices destroy the hobby and ofcom do absolutely nothing about them?

I agree with the shop, you've done nothing wrong Andy - Mainly followed you for the ebike content, but now you're looking at something that I was thinking about regarding CB, I'll be tuning into you more and perhaps taking a leaf or two from your book on accessing CB band whilst also having the advantages of the modes on offer with an amateur HF set :)
What these haters (who seem to be full-license no-nothing busybodies, with nothing better to do other than complaining about something they have no control over) seem to forget is that if it were not for the popularity back in the 70s encouraging importing of equipment into the UK, we wouldn't have Citizen's Band (hence the name - despite govt attempts to quietly say 'you need a licence' and making the market more expensive to own a good CB set, to which I say Foxtrot Oscar to the Govt) nor later PMR446 in this country. The attitude and snobbery of alot of the Full License holders, even to those trying to go through Foundation and Intermediate Licensees like myself, has killed alot of the enthusiasm many had for the hobby. CB (27MHz) was never a 'ham only' band - I would happily tear up the 30 quid I spent on my foundation license if it means disassociating myself from snobs bringing down HAM radio, as I've not done much with it ever since.

Hi, I’m a radio amateur and I work in business radio, I was licensed in 1981. I have dabbled in CB over the years and one thing has always struck me… how bulshit free and welcoming it I is on CB. Every time I put a call out on CB, I get an answer and a short friendly chat. Amateur radio gave me a career, I owe it, support and respect it. But sadly, amateur radio is not often bulshit free and welcoming

That nonsense right there is why I will always have my HF gear widebanded from the store, I couldn't imagine not being able to get on 11m when I wanted to. After all, it's where the majority of Amateurs started off, always good to remember your roots.

There are a lot of arbitrary rules in ham radio that are based on history rather than common sense. It's like alcohol laws in North America. :-)
However, any ham operator should be aware of how licensing works from taking the exam, so personally I would have thought twice about posting a video of it online...

I've thought about getting a Ham licence but after listening on various frequencies, it feels like it;s mostly old men comparing the size of their antenna and rigs and getting very anal if you don't do exactly what they do, and rather dull rag chewing conversations on the 2m. Tried picking up SSTV too, but had rather disappointing results there as well. Decided it probably wasn't worth the investment to tx.

    • @2e0txe
      @2e0txe 3 роки тому

Its worthwhile, as you'll understand what you need to receive SSTV on 14.230 with a tuned antenna and not just a random scrap of wire or an antenna that works on a different band. There are many many aspects to the hobby and different places to go away from the dull ragchews, activating parks, mountains, digital voice modes, digital data modes, APRS, etc, etc. Always something to explore, its a hobby where I've never had a dull moment or thought I'm bored.

      Hi there moojuiceuk,
      I'm a fully licensed Amateur-Radio operator, & a registered instructor/Examiner for Amateur-Radio.
If I can help you in any way at all, I'm more than happy. Also lookout for videos by Callum, M0MCX, also known as the DX COMMANDER. He runs some very interesting & educational videos for Amateur-Radio.
As far as old men talking only about their kit, & having to do just what they do is concerned, that's a load of bull wash. Providing that you follow the rules of your licence regulations, plus no profane language, & no music playing, try to avoid politics (especially on the HF Bands) & definitely no sex or smutty talk, you can talk about what ever you like. Of course there will be people who will be able to help you with various different transmitting & receiving modes, like SSTV, & other modes other than just ragchewing on your microphone, depending upon your modes of interest.
      Kind Regards,
      Ray.
      M0RAY.
      Kent.

As a licensed Amateur Radio operator in the USA, I STRONGLY discourage you getting a Ham license. That's what I've run into also. As well guys that talk a bunch of smack - only to find out that they've been living in their mother's basement harboring conspiracy theories, talking about what a badass they are, while wearing their mother's underwear. And they SWEAR they've NEVER talked on the CB band, yet we remember their voice from way back in the day and going by a handle like "Hustler" for example.

I take offence to dog owners who have no responsibility and let their dog's shit in the park and leave it and then moan about how the park is used. @Phil Ware whether it is illegal or not to ride electric scooters at the moment this will not change the opinion of the older generation of dog walkers as people in general don’t like change or accept new technology and instead live in the 1900’s. Scooters will become legal soon I’m sure probably as registered vehicles on the road but in the meantime just to please you I’ll put them in the back of my electric car and drive my legal mode of transport instead. I’ve even heard of Callsign snobbery on the band and some old Geefers complaining about the M7’s. I’ve been into radio since 1977 and was on CB first… I did my Ticket in 88 and got my G7 then my Morse in 92 and got my M0 and love helping people out. Here in the states the FCC has pretty much given up on CB. There are operators in the South running some SERIOUS power without interference from the govt. I have been a licensed ham for over 50 years but I still have a CB radio in the shack. I rarely talk on it but it is usually on ch 6 called "The Super Bowl" where people are running 1000s of watts....that's right 1000s! I keep the AF gain down and use it to indicate band openings on 10M. The FCC has finally allowed the FM mode.....About time!

This CB versus Ham cobblers was why Ham radio nearly ended up on its arse. I know a lot of ex CB'ers who got their licence and went to the Ham bands and in fact promoted getting the Ham licence . Whatever you use youre equipment for is fine providing its within the licence conditions, its just sour grapes from some people . Nice to see your enthusiasm dont let them flog it out of ya.

I thought your video using the IC 705 on the CB channels was excellent and lots of fun. I stated with CB as did many HAM's and still find that CB has a certain attraction. I was in fact stimulated to get my HAM license after becoming frustrated with the limited range of CB, notwithstanding the obvious illegal CB stations running big power and high gain antennas. Here in North America there are more than a few notable examples of such illegal stations and those operators have become infamous. Then of course there's the trash talkers and these can be problematic. However, there are still lots of good folks on CB and good fun to be had, especially were a community had developed. It's my opinion that CB will see a resurgence as there is a growing concern around power blackouts or loss of cell service for any number of reasons. It is after all a fast and easy way to communicate with others locally without the need for complex gear or licensing.
