  • This simple cartridge provides some incredible tools for diagnosing the often cranky Commodore 1541 Floppy Drives. If you're interested in getting pcbs, using this link www.pcbway.com/setinvite.aspx... for my friends over at PCBWay.com is a huge help to the channel.
This project can be ordered from here (Also contains ROM File)
    www.pcbway.com/project/sharep...
This video provides a more details explaination of how to burn the ROM
    • How to build a cartrid...
If you want to burn roms or test chips, this is my preferred burner

I agree with Eletronic Treasure. Everyone (lately) keeps saying 1541 drives, specifically mitsumi specific drives are bad or unreliable. They are quite reliable. I buy everyone I can get cheap and I have never come across one I couldnt repair. I would say MOST of the problems are 1541 board specific (roms, ttl logic, etc) not the drive mech. These are pretty rugged drives in my opinion and I love fixing them.

I think the main irreplaceable issue is damaged heads.

The name and ID it asks for for the format is giving you the ability to name your disk (8 characters I believe) and the ID is any 2 characters of your choice.

Yeah, modding the C-64 to have a reset switch was a rite of passage. 😄 Eventually fast loader and other utility carts would sport them.

That's what I was thinking. I remember going into radio shack asking how I could add a reset button to my tandy 1000 and they all looked at me like I was crazy.

I can send you the external psu and all the parts. I maintained esd precautions as theres a 6502 in there and the 6522 and 27 i wanna say. Theyre the bus controllers for peripherals
It's been over a decade since I had spinning media storage in my pc and I miss the chug sound haha

They aren't that bad. The drive head strap lips, the pulley slips on the shaft, but the biggest issue was the failing heads :( Half tracks mean nothing unless you have half tracks on the disk. 100 in red is NOT GOOD for half tracks! You want yellow or green. Liked anyway cause vintage computing content it awesome.

My main complaint with the 938D soldering tool is the power cable is so darn stiff!
Ive only used it for desoldering.
