He has a small condenser mic behind his arm, picking up all the acoustic details from the bass. A DPA 4099 would be a great choice. And he mixes the signal with a quality piezo or internal mic, is my guess. Or even a magnetic pickup. Yes i believe marcustico puts the pickup in the end of the fretboard ( where there are no frets). But yes, the marcustico is half of the wonder here - without the condenser, it would still sound like an impressive imitation of a double bass, but the condenser mic deserves to be adressed as half of the "secret". I bet this "trick" can be applied on cheaper fretless basses. This bass makes me really happy. So much inspiration to listen and watch.
