What is so special about Kolkata?
Rosogolla? Tea and chitchats? Metros? Trams? Victoria? Ecopark? Durga Puja?
Well, these are the first thoughts that probably cross your minds! Yes, definitely they are parts of the tremendous treasure that we live everyday without fail.
But, there is something more to this place! The air of Kolkata breathes the soothing fragrance of seasons, of history and culture that together make a perfect cup of coffee, be it at the novice Starbucks or the most embraced windowpane.
When it comes to bracing ourselves for good times, we are never away. And this, my friend, is seen most prominently noted as we fasten our belts for the rollercoaster ride of Pujo. There is no doubt that we eagerly wait for the four days of pomp and glamour, to dress ourselves in the best of attire, to forget all odds of regular life and live on our own terms, to hop across pandals and wonder at the beautiful pandals that our own artisans make.
But beyond this lies another glory of this Pujo that coexists in the limelight of theme pujas. These are the traditional pujas that aesthetically adorn our Kolkata, that have been witnesses to the change of time, to the change of this city while remaining untouched by the rapid rush of galloping centuries. The city of joy at once sinks into nightly pandal hoppings while simultaneously flourishing in the roars of conches that speak of how we have retained our steadfast footsteps in history through blooming houses of kings and zamindars across all the changes that the modern world has gifted.
Kumortuli Dot Com is our little family that was born with the motive to replenish the vibes of hope through the ringing sentiment of Puja, that resonates in the hearts of every Bengali. We intend to share stories of Puja through snapshots that conceal anecdotes lost in time.
With the intent to highlight these longest running pujas that have been uttered by many in conscience but not distinctly known by all, we, at Kumortuli Dot Com, present to you our first ever video documentary on a few of the glorious pujas of Kolkata, amidst the pandemonium of pandemic. We hope to keep you seated in this joyous ride, wrapped in a flow to put your senses into actions, solely within the stories that we have tried our best to unravel.
