    Funny...I was just wondering the other day about using pause resume to change colours and here you come with a perfect example of it being done. I was thinking about adding a 'home then pause ' line in the g code when a certain layer was reached but your way is fine as long as you have a timer and probably easier.

      Yes, that is a great idea. There is a extension or add on, but I have not given it a go yet. Brute force is my usual go to... =) Then I hone it to something better.

    In Cura goto Extensions > Post Processing > Modify G Code > Add a Script > filament Change ... you can then set a layer height to change the filament at you can add as many as you want and the print will stop before starting the layer you set and beep to let you know it is time to change filament ... Easier then setting a timer and hoping its the tight time :)

    I tend to pause a project if it takes 24 hrs to print, cause I don't like my printer being on while i sleep. HOWEVER why is it when you pause it, the nozzle goes to home. But when I pause it, the nozzle just stops in some random stop of the print

    • @HLModTech
      @HLModTech  Рік тому

      Are you thinking of mixing two different elements? I’m not sure if that would work. I no longer have an ender three to test it either. You might be able to just use the tune option to raise the nozzle height while trying it though. I’m interested to hear, what your project would be.

    • @c.rutherford
      @c.rutherford Рік тому

      @@HLModTech I figured it out. I did a change filament, swapped from PLA+ I had run out of to PLA I had remaining, then quickly adjusted the temperature on the fly after it started, lowering it from 230 (PLA+) to 215 (PLA).
      It already started printing but thankfully it didn't ruin the print.
      This worked switching from PLA+ to PLA.
      It probably wouldn't have going the other way, as the nozzle wouldn't be hot enough to extrude in time.

    I had a question. Is there a way to make the text even with the top of the heart? So it's completely level and smooth to the touch on top? Sorry if this is really easy, but I'm new to this and still learning lol. I didnt know if there was a way to hollow out the letter area on the last layer of the first color, then switch colors and have that hollowed out area filled in with the second color, or what process could be done to do this. If it's not possible then it's still awesome, but would be great if there was a way to do this.

    • @HLModTech
      @HLModTech  3 роки тому +2

      Hard to make that happen with a 1 color printer. I have had projects where I printed the inlay (text in your case) 2nd and then tapped it with a mallet to get in place. I can do what you speak of with my replicator 2x as it has dual extruders. With my A10M, it is possible, but I have not done it. To get the colors to be crisp you would really have to a purge tower to clean the nozzle as it switched from the heart to the letters.

    I’m making name plates similar to this keychain but cura isn’t slicing my file like yours- I put the text on top of the object but it’s always showing the lower layers (before raised text) as hollowed out instead of just doing a solid object until it’s time for the raised text. Anyone know how to fix that? I guess it saves filament and you don’t know about it since text covers it up but I’m trying to figure it out anyway haha

    • @CoroaEntertainment
      @CoroaEntertainment 4 роки тому +2

      HL ModTech it doesn’t stay at the same temp while paused. Both the bed and nozzle will start to cool down the moment you hit pause. That means you have to pull the old filament out as soon as you can before it cools down too much. After changing colours, the nozzle may have cooled down so much that it will not melt the new colour, but don’t worry, the second you hit resume, the print won’t start again until the bed and nozzle reaches the correct temp. It’s during this time that you have a chance to purge out the old colour from the nozzle. This is when having a knob on your extruded comes in handy. As soon as the temp gets close to the original printing temp you had set, you have a about 10 seconds to use the knob to purge out the old colour and pull away the excess extruded material near the nozzle (I use a pair of tweezers to do that so I don’t burn my finger tips). As soon as the nozzle and bed goes back to the original print temp settings, the print will restart. Note, depending on the type of filament you are using, if they have different melt points, you’ll have to go into the menu as soon as the print restarts to rest it on the fly.
