So the thing sits underwater for a month and you don’t drain $10 worth of gas? Seems like the same crack decision making that thought going out early season on a new lake with unknown ice conditions in a warm year was a good idea.......🤦🏻♂️ glad you’re safe and got her running but come on man.
Dude, I'd keep it. I think that sled will run great for many years. Drain the fuel, re-fill, Dry the seats, gauge cluster, clean, grease, WD-40 everything that you can touch and then run it for an extended time to heat and dry up everything else.
Fresh water right so it has a chance of living. I’d run the crap out of it all day change oils and do it again change oil and then it should be ok. Maybe sell it to your brother. 😬
I would still empty that gas and replace it. Even if you filled it with water it's still gonna smell like gas lol.... It may run and start, but that gas isn't going to be any good bud. Glad you got er goin
@@Wisconsin_Fisherman thanks I’ve been binge watching your channel and was going through some older videos. Greetings from north of Minneapolis. Keep up the great work!
I used to work on submerged ATVs and outboards. Dry them out, change oil, clean out fuel system and carbs, get it running. Then change oil until it’s not milky anymore after about 10 minutes of running. Then change oil again after about 50 miles and you should be good. I can tell you from submerged boats, you’ll probably have gremlins for some time. Gauges and general electrical issues.
My wheeler unfortunately fell through over a week ago now... thankfully everyone on it made it off and to shore... sat 15’ deep for three day.. 2004 Honda rubicon.. got it running drained all fluids oil several times... thing Boggs itself out in reverse yet and seems like in drive it’s stuck in a high gear as it really doggish as first till you get up to speed... that’s prolly electrical you think?
@@scottfed3878 It could be electrical, probably the HFT or Hondamatic unit, they had a lot of problems with them in the 2001 and 2002, we replaced a lot of them under warranty from Honda. No fixing them. It’s about a $1200.00 part and requires motor tear down. It’s worth having a qualified Honda ATV tech look at it, check for codes and diagnose it. That way you’ll know for sure what you’re looking at.
when restarting a water flooded engine, you should use a mixture of 50% oil and 50% WD 40 to eliminate the humidity from the crankcase run a few minutes without load, flush and repeat with a mixture of 75% oil and 25% WD40 then flush and replace with the prefered oil and the filter and return to srevice. I saved many flooded marine engine that way.
That exact same sled went thru the ice on our lake in Michigan a few years back. Owner left it. We pulled it out and tried to get it going but no luck. It was down on the bottom for 3 months. Mechanically it was ok but all the electrical was wasted. The fuse block was all eaten away and alot of wires had come apart. Some sort of electrolysis because of the battery? dont know.
You are one lucky dude!! I'd probably still drain every liquid out of it again and put all new fresh fluids and filters in it just for safety sake. But, WOW!! Glad it fired up for ya.
I restored 2 snowmobiles that were on the bottom of the lake. I had to go through and drain all fluids, took the seats to a friend who does upholstery. This guy is thinking water didnt get in the gas. It did. It got in everything. If done properly, that snowmobile will run like new again. You don't just fire it right up and say done. It took me two weeks to get everything dried out, not to mention the sand that ended up where it shouldn't have gone.
I work at a ski doo dealer, change the oil and oil filter again, also drain that tank, there still some water in then, put a dehumidifier next to it in your shop for a couple days as well, we’ll help dry everything out, as for the cluster, clean all the connections and let it dry out and might work again
Not sure if we’ve really given you any support.... glad it ran again. Told some of my buddies here about your ordeal. They thought it would run again. That was right when it happened. It sat in the lake for 30 days. Amazing.
if you go to rinelander, there is a lake called miller dam. there is absolutly monster crappie and panfish. the fishing isn't like super hot but in a day you can get like 20-30 fish. but no joke I went there with my son and we were catching like 8in bluegill and 13-14 in crappie
The 660T is probably the best sled I've ever seen as far as reliability. I've owned a 2006 ST 660T since new and it has been 12,000 miles of enjoyment!
Is you shut it off when she went in it will go , had a truck roll in a lake , was in little over 3 hrs , dried it out. Drained it put diesel in engine differential , trans etc drained filled with proper fluids * oil etc started & ran it ! Wet dry vacuum is handy !
I had a pretty good feeling it would be just fine. Tbh I'd keep it, think about it man y'all went thru the ice on it so keep it as a visual reminder when ur on the lake with it man. That and the gauge cluster is a lot less expensive then a new sled or even a used sled.
Amazing how tough those machines can be! I'm glad you get it running again! I'd probably keep the machine as long as it keeps running. I wouldn't feel right selling it without someone knowing what could go wrong in the future. All of the wiring, fuses, anything electrical could corrode in the future with all of the exposure to water. Also, since your gauges aren't currently working they may or may not work in the future as well. It's probably better to be salvaged for parts than to keep running, which maybe a potential buyer would want, but I'd hate to be someone to buy a machine like that and use it for a year or two then have all kinds of problems with it.
If you shut em off before they sink, they will always start again. You took the right step's, I just would have threw a turbo heater in the garage and really let everything dry out. Awesome that you saved the sled..
im glad you are running !! LOL siphon those tanks til they are dry kyle., i would let them sleds go right on down the road . get yourself a nice wheeler or sxs throw some chains on the tires and keep on fishing.
Cool Kyle you got it fired up. Not to tell you what you should do but to help; I'd still drain gas & refill with fresh (as could be a lil water in it & not know) or atleast add some sea foam to the gas. Plus change all the fluids 1 more time just to be safe.
Most important thing to do once you pull it out of the water is not let it freeze get it dried out right away .but still if selling give full disclosure it's was underwatet.
@Wisconsin_Fisherman I sunk my 64 cj5 jeep into a 8 foot deep farm pond it was underwater a month also so I had crane lift it out and as long as I had crane I drained everything than used crane to tip upside down to drain than put it in heated barn 6 hours later it was running only thing I had to replace was radio.
Dude your not draining ten dollars worth of gas??? There's definitely water in it. If you run that gas threw your sled she won't last long. Trust me I know my 99 xc spent 24 hours under water. I got it out let it dry out next to a wood stove for 3 days drained the gas pulled the carbs off drained the oil basically went threw the whole sled. I put it back together and she fired right up. That was 6 years ago and she has never had a problem since.
Hey buddy I live hear in Iowa & have one that you have to pull start & I just can’t pull it because I’m a shorter guy but anyways I’ve been looking for an electric start one & was wondering what you was going to ask for it?? I might be interested in it & it would definitely help me out a bunch also to be able to get out on the ice to fish also! Let me no please I’d love to buy it from you!!!

Id change the oil a second time just to be sure there’s no water in it

How much did they charge you to get it out?

How's this thing doing 1 year later?
I sold it about a week after we got it running
How did the slide end up in the bottom of the lake?
Hit thin ice 30days a go
Make sure you drain the oil in the chain case too...
Can anyone tell me why you switch a battery that is cranking that fast?
It was a jumper pack that was getting weak

So far nothing there works
When in doubt, Dont go out. A miracle its running. Glad you all were safe.
Could the difference between the 2 sleds be that one was deeper (more pressure) than the other so the ones tank filled up with water?
Most likely a difference in the fuel tank breather check valves and/or cap seal.
How much for it?

I would throw some sea foam in the oil and gas. Should help absorb some moisture.
It can set in the water for a year an still work the next day. The damage from water doesn’t show up until everything drys out an corrodes
