Nice one Darren! Thanks for sharing! That Coq de Leon looks to be stiffer than typical hackle fibers, nice mottling as well... looks like I am going to have to get one of those tailing packs. Working on a new crayfish pattern - I want to see if I can imitate the way they settle to the bottom after a scoot so I am playing with the balance and buoyancy. Cheers!
Hank Vana2 the packs are pretty nice. I have some full Whiting capes in light med and dark pardo, but the tailing feathers are much more mottled and a bit darker than what I have. The ones I have might be from earlier stock though, maybe 8-10 years ago. Good luck with the crayfish pattern.
I seldom have luck tying flies with green materials! No idea why!! This one looks good maybe I can break my bad luck streak! I think I will tie a couple with the disco ball beads just to ad a bit more glitter. They are not as easy to find when you pan for beads, the multi faceted surface makes it harder to feed through the gravel to the pan. I wonder if I guy can use synthetic quill with a wire rib? If I do that I will send you a picture! That diamond dub looks great! This has got to beat my string of bad luck with green flies!!
lol, Kerry, I've been having a much harder time finding the beads in the gold pan now that the secret is out there. ;) Good luck, I'm sure you'll have luck in the AB creeks. Take a few down south to the Crowsnest and I would bet your luck changes. Cheers
Thanks det282 I like the UTC sculpin olive w/ black as well as grey w/ olive. As long as you get some contrast, I don't think you can go too wrong. Cheers
Thanks for stopping in, Hughie Graves. I don't tie too many specifically for SM Bass, but lots of them could be great flies for bass. I will try and get some more bass specific flies into the mix. Here is a link to my Bass playlist - ua-cam.com/play/PLgSPz827K3Tts0EbDPqBtM89i4KFiyZIr.html
Chimo! That was a great tie Darren! I think I've sub'd John, he's a salmon fisher / tier right? Heavy set guy? Anyway I'll check it out. How's the snow blower? Mine got a work out - runs like a top now that I had it worked on. Hey 6:37pm 1/22/20 look almost straight up to sky to see the space station. From WSW to NE direction of travel. Pretty cool to see. Moves at a good clip too. Cheers
Chimo Joe, I've got good timing, read this right at 6:37 but we are overcast :( I've been able to see it when I get out camping before, and can see a lot of satellites too. There was a video I think of the station transiting the solar eclipse last time it past that was really cool. Snowblower got a good workout finally. I ended up doing half the street. I'm afraid I might not get another chance.. nah, I'm sure I will. No, I think you're thinking of a different John. Here is a link ua-cam.com/users/floydiologyvideos Cheers!
@@PiscatorFlies I know, it was overcast here too :o(," That must be awesome to see it against an eclipse. I'm waiting to see geese fly across the full moon. I've come close but no dice. When I was a kid you could see that big Echo satellite. It's probably housed at Area 51 now ;o) Yeah I like Pink Floyd but that John posts live cast premiers that never work, I sub'd him too. To be sure I'll check all 3 links. Thanks man, say hi to Hank da Vinci for me next time you guys chat, he's an amazingly talented man. Cheers!
Scott Lowe thanks for the comment. I tend to add a half hitch out of habit, mostly before I wrap a body material so that I don’t bump off the thread. Not something you need to do, but might save you. It’s sort of a save point like in a video game IMHO. I hope that makes sense. Cheers
This simple and effective 'copper john' type fly likely catches as many fish but is so much easier to tie. Easy, effective, and efficient. Nice!
Love that wire ribbing

I saw you put in a half hitch before you turned the wire. Is that something you need to do? Or a habit for using the rotary?
