Actually for me the cheaper one does the job. There is a Western stall in Hougang and they sell their fish and chips for only $5 and their serving is VERY generous!!! More generous than the cheap one yall featured.

Is it the one at Hougang central? I love the fish chips there! The portion is huge and They also allow you to change bake beans to baked potato.

The "mashed pea sauce" is actually called "mushy peas" with traditional English fish & chips. Means the same thing though.

Exactly and that litle portion of the mushy peas actually looked the right colour and hopefully was made from previously dried peas and not just mashed processed peas.
The chips on the cheap one looked more like American style fries but the fish looked big and lovely and perfectly cooked, I would go for the cheap one. I wouldn't want to eat at that expensive place, it looked more like a musium.

It's not a pea sauce 🤣. It's actually pea puree/mushy peas which is a traditional condiment to British Fish Chips. Also next time you can try asking for white bread and butter to make a chip butty with a dash salt and malt vinegar 😋.

actually, i don't mind the cheaper version but the seller can improve a bit for satisfaction factor. just give a slice of lemon and use tartar sauce, not mayo. a lot of big brands make this, so it's not hard to buy.

It is always " interesting" to see what they sell you as Western fish and chips which has normally nothing to do with it. The first one was such a strange combination and preparation I have never seen before 😆🙈. Take care ❤️

Let me explain why you get what you pay for. Yi fen qian, yi fen huo.
The cheap one: fake fish, generic dory fish, deep frozen, far reduced nutrients. Chips are fake potato, heavily processed, cooked in cheap, unhealthy hawker oil. Coleslaw is tiny strips of fake vegetables. Tiny. Majority of its weight is salad sauce.
The expensive: real fish, real beer batter. Chips are real potatoes that were cut in the restaurant's kitchen by the junior chefs.
Those who prefer the cheap one prefer it because of the crumbs coating. They like the crunch. If you like the crunch, eat some other food like Japanese or street, deep fried food drenched in flour coatings.
Those who say they gave so little chips in the expensive restaurant: it's not the number of pieces you see. Did you notice how fat they were? How thick?
By the way, if you want chips, order a side dish of chips, wedges. You can gorge yourself with 3 bowls of nothing but potato pieces if you like potatoes so much.
The point of fish and chips is still the fish. The protein.
For those who say it looks bland....
Maybe they can change the recipe to make the fish shinier. But potatoes are potatoes. And.... peas are peas. Real peas mashed together look like what you see in the video. If you order peas from somewhere else, and they look popping green, shiny green, light green, wasabi green.... those are fake peas.
So... do you want to fill your stomach only for as cheap as possible? If so, then just eat cheap, fake food.
If you want to appreciate genuine, real things, then expect to pay more.
