It's amazing how quickly Insomniac Peter, who was loved by pretty much anyone who played the first game as one of the best takes on the character, for 5 solid years no less, was absolutely destroyed as a character in a matter of weeks with the release of this game.

This is a take on 1610 Ultimates. Peter passing the torch to Miles at his death is part of the comic this is based off of. Also Harry became Venom in the show, Ultimate Spider-Man...and wore the exact same clothes he's seen wearing when he enters May's house. How many hints do they have to drop to prove that this isn't 616? Ultimate Green Goblin is a hulking monster by the way. Not a crazy dude in a suit. He's also the one who ends Peter. So relax. We're probably gonna get another Miles game before that happens, because Miles and Silk will hold it down until Pete comes out of retirement.

Marvels Spider-Man 2 was a great game mechanically. But the destruction of the character of Peter Parker was really felt this time around. Felt like a whole 180 compared to the great story and game we got back in 2018. Miles isn’t Spider-Man, and the sale numbers will show for that across his comics, merchandise and media in comparison to the OG.
Its not a great game mechanically. The core combat is jank trash that somehow plays worse than any of the Arkham games despite having a far larger budget. The best thing about these games is the web swinging, but even that is too automated, and can't really compete with OG Spiderman 2 on the PS2 lmao
I agree. There is no clever scenes in this game like when otto saw Peter with the suit and played dumb. Kraven is an antagonist here sure but I feel like I heard more about how bad he was and his life in general than actually getting a deep dive into his character like they did with Otto, and venom functioned as a corrupted version of harry and peter’s vision but ultimately doesn’t matter since everyone “didn’t really mean what they said” while in symbiote form. For example, all the shit Mary Jane said while she was scream ultimately led to NOTHING. Or even how harry started acting like a victim of venom near the end Instead of going full force with the “symbiote is only an extension of your truest inner self”, they instead make venom no different than a fucking mustache twirler in this game

In the Spider-Man 2 game I could keep myself constantly moving and get into the flow of combat and take enemies out in different ways. As far as web slinging it is superior to Spider-Man 2 on PS2 in many ways, even giving us the options in settings to adjust its mechanics. I felt kind of odd about Miles and Lee climbing around in Peter's mind and seeing Aunt May's death. Felt wrong because that was Peter's moment that shouldn't have been intruded on
What's really offensive about this is that a pillar of the Spider-Man stories is the tension that comes from Peter trying to balance his personal responsibilities with his crime-fighting ones. The message is that the world needs Spider-Man, and Peter has to step up and make sacrifices. Having Miles replace him, IMO, has a clear White-hostile subtext: "Pretty presumptuous of you, Peter, to assume that the world needs a White savior! Guess what, there's a competent Person Of Color who can do your job just fine!"
I love that in every single instance, that anti-white message is being pushed by the same white saviour types. I miss back in the day (20+ years ago) when we didn't know who was writing our games, comics and movies. They took the job, cared about the lore and stuck to it. Now days, they make these writers famous, give them every chance for an interview and these people get a taste of fame and power and then insert themselves and all their nonsense into games. It's like the dramatic umpires in the MLB. They make a terrible call, a replay proves it's terrible, and they dig their heels in and try and make the baseball game about themselves, while they sit and fight with the manager. Then they go on an interview and podcast spree trying to be famous when no fan cares about the umpires.

i noticed it during the boat scene, Peter kept calling for miles help for the rotor when peter just need to web everyone up and just lodge the rotor blades himself they made him so weak
From the moment Miles got introduced in game 1 I was afraid this would happen. My HOPE was that they would do something similar but less woke to what was done here.. use Miles as a way to give us a second playable character more or less, give us another unique loadout to play with, hell maybe even co-op missions. I never had an issue with the idea of Peter taking on Miles as a sort of trainee. But I feared that the ultimate goal would be to replace Peter, and unfortunately it seems Insomniac can't help themselves. This game was great gameplay was and honestly might be the most impressive exclusive on the technical side to date, but the absolute bitchifying of Peter and almost all of Miles' content being woke (plus MJ being James Bond for some reason) already hurt my enjoyment heavily, but the ending did it for me. I won't buy another piece of content from them if they stick to this path.
He’s not retiring. He’s focusing on being Peter for a while. And no he didn’t get that in Symkaria. He was helping Sable International while also helping MJ with her story on them. But focusing on being Pete for a bit doesn’t mean that he stops being Spider-Man. He’s just gonna let Miles take care of things until things get rough enough to need two Spider-Men again.

I knew this would happen since the ending of the first game. I think sooner rather than later we are going to see peter being replaced in every media like movies, shows and comics. It's such a shame. It would be like replacing bruce wayne with a new robin that can do everything he can but better and calling him the real batman.

Miles solo game sold terribly compared to spider-man, so they had to lure us into SM2 with venom and get us to play as and accept miles so that SM3 will be mostly miles (and i guess silk too maybe?) both of which i couldnt care less about
Miles could be a decent side character, much like Miguel, but Marvel has to completely flop marketing him, but people shouldn't be shocked considering Disney and Sweet Baby. Anyone can be a Spiderman, BUT Spiderman (the character) is Peter Parker. Miles has a similar suit, borrows the same rogues gallery, calls himself spiderman, has similar powers etc. They couldn't even think of a good superhero name for him. Whenever you search spiderman you get Peter Parker, you only get Miles Morales if you search Miles Morales. Why did they make Miles take so much of his identity from Peter? It's because they eventually want to replace Peter with Miles, just like they did at the end of this game.

Yea I totally agree with you on this, and I’m happy that someone else saw what they were truly doing with Spider-Man 2 in order to heavily push Miles for Spider-Man 3. It is really disappointing that they didn’t at least give Peter Parker, AKA THE REAL SPIDER-MAN, a completed trilogy before they moved on to other Spider-Man characters.
The entire point of being Spider-Man is making the ultimate sacrifice and bearing the burden that comes with accepting that mantle, taking a extended break or retiring was never an option for Peter because he loved it so much. Even in his hardest moments when he felt like giving up he found a way to put the mask back on and go help people, no matter how inconvenient the time was he found a way. I don’t have any issue with Miles wanting to take up that mantle as well but you cannot condition us to call him Spider-Man then phase out the man that’s been Spider-Man since day one it makes no sense for Peter and completely goes against the entire point of being Spider Man in the first place.

It's basically a back door race swap of Spider-Man. Just like they've done with dozens of other characters in recent years to show how diverse and woke they are.
11:58 Mate you have no idea as to how disspapointed I was when that happened, don't get me wrong I did really enjoy fighting Symbiote Peter but there should have been a lot more to it than what it was. I was expecting a full on fight between the two where Peter would actually be significantly stronger than Miles and despite Miles' best efforts he'd struggle. It'd ultimately be down to Peter to take it off after realising how much of a monster the symbiote has turned him into. The context would be while Peter respects and acknowledges Miles' progress as a great Spider-Man, deep down inside he doesn't want Miles to usurp his throne as the definitive Spider-Man which is himself. He finds it hard to accept that Miles could potentially be a better Spider-Man due to his more impressive invisibilty and biolelectricity abilities, hence Peter would compensate with the symbiote to make him at the very least equal to him but at the most part stronger than him. The symbiote would intensify those insecurities thus making him engage at Miles with full force. Like I would have imagined Peter disabling the bell and going all out on Miles (punching him) until eventually he snaps out of it and realises what he's been doing after seeing the horror of what he's become (he would see flashbacks of him and Miles enjoying themselves and instantly regret what he's currently doing to him) he starts ripping the suit off and Miles would have helped by unleashing a full charge of lightning(using his remaining strength) to release the bell so that the suit comes off. That imo would have made it much more impactful.

7:12 this is a technicality but there are 2 flashes in the dc comics universe. One of them used to be the sidekick before taking the title. The difference between Miles and Kid flash(Wally west) is that he was his sidekick for years then the og flash "died" and he took his place for decades before the og came back now they both share the same title with Wally being the best flash. Miles has been spider man for a couple years and he took peters place. While Wally is similar to miles as in "the sidekick/partner taking the title of the og" Wally was diffrent. It felt natural and he was and is the best flash to the fans and to dc. But for Miles besides a few guys and people who only watched the spider verse movies. Marvel pushed down HARD that miles is spider-man. When really he isnt in most peoples eyes. Hell the cartoons dont even call him spider man. They call him "Spy-D" or "arachnid kid" cause they know he cant replace peter. Peter has been in it for to long. The only time i felt people were ok with peter leaving was with Ben Riley. But now unless there is alternate universe shenanigans miles will never replace peter parker cause he is spider-man no matter how many people say it doesnt matter

I already wasn't gonna play this game due to the face change. Imagine starting a series about Spider-Man and getting rid of Spider-Man after the second installment.
And I was already thinking to myself "Now they have a black Spider Man...hmm how long will it take before they try to replace/delete Peter?" For me, Miles was always just a cheap copy. An excuse to reset comics again and declare everything before it to be null and non-existent. How sick you feel when you realize that the people behind such projects dig even deeper to pull off even worse crap.
As long as Peter is the "marketable" Spiderman, they can never erase him. He'll always be the stepping stone for Miles, Gwen, MJ, and every other distaff Miles was okay as an alternate reality "what if" when the Ultimate comics was in full swing, but having them both in the same continuity is increasingly overused. If Spiderman 2 gets DLC, that'll probably be even crazier, but my only consolation is that the devs could never risk making a stand-alone Miles Morales or Mary Jane game, as amusing as that would be

The developers want to show themselves as an “ally” and enlightened again, and that becomes clear when it comes to the side missions. Besides, the comic industry has done far worse stupid shit, like the replacement for Ironman, the story of who has what sexual preferences, which groups of customers are marketed to, and so on. Simply culture war and middle management decisions because these people think there is a new important "message" to spread. In the end, the customer can only make a difference with his money and not buy such products. Only when something like this runs out of money will it stop. But well...that takes time. Just look at Disney and Star Wars... they still haven't gotten the hang of things. (and they don't deviate an inch from their course)

Funnily enough, I saw a tweet about how this Peter from the insomniac universe would join the Miguel's spider society. That's why he has a cameo in the spider-verse movie and why Miles is now insomniac universe's spiderman.
Which is why people are taking this way too seriously. Insomniac isn’t retiring Spider-Man, Pete is gonna learn he has a responsibility that he can’t ignore, even for a little while. They’ve set that up the whole time and people just assumed based on what Peter wants near the end. My only issue with this is the fact that the third game’s villains have too many close ties to Peter. Doc Ock is still alive and Norman Osborn sees Peter as a second son. So when Norman finds out Peter is Spider Man it makes narrative sense for them to complete the trilogy focusing on the two of them. I wouldn’t have an issue with Miles being a main character after the Osborn Arc is fully set.

This was the plan from the jump. Once Disney Bought Marvel in 2009 , they tried to switch out by killing Peter, but it backfired and they bought Peter back. Then they decided to do a overlap plan by creating the Animated Spiderverse to desensitize the youth and pander to all the check boxes. Simply put, If a person needs a character’s race, gender or etc to change or be created in order to be a fan, YOU’RE NOT A FAN, you’re a cash grab that’s going to get even more betrayed.

I have seen the main defense for Miles character is that “He’s so good in Spider-Verse movie. You just hate him because he’s black.” I mean, everybody seems to love Miguel O’Hara albeit he’s brown, and everybody also loves Spider-Verse Miles because Spider-Verse Miles is his own thing and his story started AFTER Peter Parker was already dead. He had his own struggles (and that struggles were mainly about the well-being of his dad, the great Jefferson Davis😂) without ruining Peter Parker’s character. Miles in Spider-Verse made Peter B Parker feel better about himself and wants to be a hero again. Meanwhile, Miles in these games. They got rid of the tension that’s crucial to Miles’ struggle and character development by killing off Jefferson Davis in the first game for no reason. Jeff works better for the story by being alive than dead because Miles’ best relationship is with his parents and his uncle. Killing him off is just repeating the same plot beat as Uncle Ben. The tragedy of losing Ben and May is Peter thing. Miles’ story works best when it’s about protecting his loved ones from dying so that Miles won’t fall into the same fate as Peter. Peter Parker in the game also didn’t feel inspired or reinvigorated by Miles. Instead, Miles just made him feel shit about himself and want to retire, which is against the concept of Spider-Man which is to inspire people.
Is the Spider-Man IP off limits for other developers currently? Cause I'd love to see another developer bring the fun back to a Spidey game, maybe something like a proper Shattered Dimensions sequel, (that's not Edge of Time because that one kind of sucked)
Balancing his normal life with his Spider-Man life was a big part of the Peter Parker, he decides to retire after the events of the game because he feels he failed MJ and people close to him, but the thing is, in this game Peter is basically having the worst week of this life, there's Kraven, all the villains he freed, his best friend becomes a novice superhero and then starts dying and Peter begins being controlled by Venom. The original Peter would be like "Damm that week was hard but i gotta make up for it now" because the original character that wasn't written by a square headed woman was really passionate about helping people and one of his major character flaws was that he beat himself up too much about things that he really couldn't help (he had to learn the hard way that he can't save everyone with Gwen's death), But the one from the game is guilt tripped by MJ into not protecting his city because she wants him close, even though she previously didn't fell the necessity of living with him. And about Miles, he is a good character (I personally really like him) his struggle is, in every other interpretation he becomes Spider-Man after Peter dies and he is 15-ish years old, he is way too young to be a hero but he is the only one capable and he feels that, he is a inexperienced Spider-Man in a world that has already really experienced villains and that is why it's so satisfying seeing him grow more and more each fight, but in this game he becomes Peter's peer right from the get go witch just skips over all his character development and makes him unrelatable and therefore unlikable. Miles's new outfit is gross, completely gross, it has a really zoomery color scheme and the basketball shoes and hair showing is them making sure you can tell just looking at him even with the mask and no skin showing that he is black, witch in my opinion is giving the message that he is not Spider-Man as much as he is the Black Spider-Man and i can't even begin to explain how backwards this is.

This is a take on 1610 Ultimates. Peter passing the torch to Miles at his death is part of the comic this is based off of. Also Harry became Venom in the show, Ultimate Spider-Man...and wore the exact same clothes he's seen wearing when he enters May's house. Marvels Spider-Man 2 was a great game mechanically. But the destruction of the character of Peter Parker was really felt this time around. Felt like a whole 180 compared to the great story and game we got back in 2018. Miles isn’t Spider-Man, and the sale numbers will show for that across his comics, merchandise and media in comparison to the OG.

Kraven is an antagonist here sure but I feel like I heard more about how bad he was and his life in general than actually getting a deep dive into his character like they did with Otto, and venom functioned as a corrupted version of harry and peter’s vision but ultimately doesn’t matter since everyone “didn’t really mean what they said” while in symbiote form.
For example, all the shit Mary Jane said while she was scream ultimately led to NOTHING.

In the Spider-Man 2 game I could keep myself constantly moving and get into the flow of combat and take enemies out in different ways. As far as web slinging it is superior to Spider-Man 2 on PS2 in many ways, even giving us the options in settings to adjust its mechanics. What's really offensive about this is that a pillar of the Spider-Man stories is the tension that comes from Peter trying to balance his personal responsibilities with his crime-fighting ones. The message is that the world needs Spider-Man, and Peter has to step up and make sacrifices.
Having Miles replace him, IMO, has a clear White-hostile subtext: "Pretty presumptuous of you, Peter, to assume that the world needs a White savior! Guess what, there's a competent Person Of Color who can do your job just fine!"
I love that in every single instance, that anti-white message is being pushed by the same white saviour types. I miss back in the day (20+ years ago) when we didn't know who was writing our games, comics and movies. They took the job, cared about the lore and stuck to it. Now days, they make these writers famous, give them every chance for an interview and these people get a taste of fame and power and then insert themselves and all their nonsense into games.

They make a terrible call, a replay proves it's terrible, and they dig their heels in and try and make the baseball game about themselves, while they sit and fight with the manager. From the moment Miles got introduced in game 1 I was afraid this would happen. My HOPE was that they would do something similar but less woke to what was done here.. use Miles as a way to give us a second playable character more or less, give us another unique loadout to play with, hell maybe even co-op missions. I never had an issue with the idea of Peter taking on Miles as a sort of trainee. But I feared that the ultimate goal would be to replace Peter, and unfortunately it seems Insomniac can't help themselves. This game was great gameplay was and honestly might be the most impressive exclusive on the technical side to date, but the absolute bitchifying of Peter and almost all of Miles' content being woke (plus MJ being James Bond for some reason) already hurt my enjoyment heavily, but the ending did it for me. I won't buy another piece of content from them if they stick to this path.
He’s not retiring. He’s focusing on being Peter for a while. And no he didn’t get that in Symkaria. He was helping Sable International while also helping MJ with her story on them. But focusing on being Pete for a bit doesn’t mean that he stops being Spider-Man. He’s just gonna let Miles take care of things until things get rough enough to need two Spider-Men again.

Miles solo game sold terribly compared to spider-man, so they had to lure us into SM2 with venom and get us to play as and accept miles so that SM3 will be mostly miles (and i guess silk too maybe?) both of which i couldnt care less about

Miles could be a decent side character, much like Miguel, but Marvel has to completely flop marketing him, but people shouldn't be shocked considering Disney and Sweet Baby. Anyone can be a Spiderman, BUT Spiderman (the character) is Peter Parker. Miles has a similar suit, borrows the same rogues gallery, calls himself spiderman, has similar powers etc. They couldn't even think of a good superhero name for him. Whenever you search spiderman you get Peter Parker, you only get Miles Morales if you search Miles Morales. Why did they make Miles take so much of his identity from Peter? It's because they eventually want to replace Peter with Miles, just like they did at the end of this game.

The entire point of being Spider-Man is making the ultimate sacrifice and bearing the burden that comes with accepting that mantle, taking a extended break or retiring was never an option for Peter because he loved it so much. Even in his hardest moments when he felt like giving up he found a way to put the mask back on and go help people, no matter how inconvenient the time was he found a way. I don’t have any issue with Miles wanting to take up that mantle as well but you cannot condition us to call him Spider-Man then phase out the man that’s been Spider-Man since day one it makes no sense for Peter and completely goes against the entire point of being Spider Man in the first place.

11:58 Mate you have no idea as to how disspapointed I was when that happened, don't get me wrong I did really enjoy fighting Symbiote Peter but there should have been a lot more to it than what it was. I was expecting a full on fight between the two where Peter would actually be significantly stronger than Miles and despite Miles' best efforts he'd struggle. It'd ultimately be down to Peter to take it off after realising how much of a monster the symbiote has turned him into. The context would be while Peter respects and acknowledges Miles' progress as a great Spider-Man, deep down inside he doesn't want Miles to usurp his throne as the definitive Spider-Man which is himself. He finds it hard to accept that Miles could potentially be a better Spider-Man due to his more impressive invisibilty and biolelectricity abilities, hence Peter would compensate with the symbiote to make him at the very least equal to him but at the most part stronger than him. The symbiote would intensify those insecurities thus making him engage at Miles with full force.
Like I would have imagined Peter disabling the bell and going all out on Miles (punching him) until eventually he snaps out of it and realises what he's been doing after seeing the horror of what he's become (he would see flashbacks of him and Miles enjoying themselves and instantly regret what he's currently doing to him) he starts ripping the suit off and Miles would have helped by unleashing a full charge of lightning(using his remaining strength) to release the bell so that the suit comes off. That imo would have made it much more impactful.

7:12 this is a technicality but there are 2 flashes in the dc comics universe. One of them used to be the sidekick before taking the title. The difference between Miles and Kid flash(Wally west) is that he was his sidekick for years then the og flash "died" and he took his place for decades before the og came back now they both share the same title with Wally being the best flash. Miles has been spider man for a couple years and he took peters place. While Wally is similar to miles as in "the sidekick/partner taking the title of the og" Wally was diffrent. It felt natural and he was and is the best flash to the fans and to dc. But for Miles besides a few guys and people who only watched the spider verse movies. Marvel pushed down HARD that miles is spider-man. When really he isnt in most peoples eyes. Hell the cartoons dont even call him spider man. They call him "Spy-D" or "arachnid kid" cause they know he cant replace peter. Peter has been in it for to long. The only time i felt people were ok with peter leaving was with Ben Riley. But now unless there is alternate universe shenanigans miles will never replace peter parker cause he is spider-man no matter how many people say it doesnt matter

If Spiderman 2 gets DLC, that'll probably be even crazier, but my only consolation is that the devs could never risk making a stand-alone Miles Morales or Mary Jane game, as amusing as that would be

I dipped out of comics when X-Men Red and Inhumans vs X-Men stopped being about story telling - and instead was straw-men and preaching. There were way crazier things by the likes of Antos and Mags but you probably know what I'm talking about
In which I'm not even sure this will end when the money dries up. We keep hearing about massive flops, comic runs of incredibly low numbers, and underachievers all around, but the money spent on production still went to paying the salaries and contracts of those who continue to ruin things.
In the end, creating and maintaining something good requires constant effort - letting something fall to the wayside by trying something all-new and different was a risk they all took

My only issue with this is the fact that the third game’s villains have too many close ties to Peter. Doc Ock is still alive and Norman Osborn sees Peter as a second son.
So when Norman finds out Peter is Spider Man it makes narrative sense for them to complete the trilogy focusing on the two of them. I wouldn’t have an issue with Miles being a main character after the Osborn Arc is fully set.
Obviously they're going to have Peter still part of the 3rd game. They also have Cindy Moon so maybe we'll have 3 Spider people

This was the plan from the jump. Once Disney Bought Marvel in 2009 , they tried to switch out by killing Peter, but it backfired and they bought Peter back. Then they decided to do a overlap plan by creating the Animated Spiderverse to desensitize the youth and pander to all the check boxes.

I mean, everybody seems to love Miguel O’Hara albeit he’s brown, and everybody also loves Spider-Verse Miles because Spider-Verse Miles is his own thing and his story started AFTER Peter Parker was already dead. He had his own struggles (and that struggles were mainly about the well-being of his dad, the great Jefferson Davis😂) without ruining Peter Parker’s character. Miles in Spider-Verse made Peter B Parker feel better about himself and wants to be a hero again.
Meanwhile, Miles in these games. They got rid of the tension that’s crucial to Miles’ struggle and character development by killing off Jefferson Davis in the first game for no reason. Jeff works better for the story by being alive than dead because Miles’ best relationship is with his parents and his uncle. Killing him off is just repeating the same plot beat as Uncle Ben. The tragedy of losing Ben and May is Peter thing. Miles’ story works best when it’s about protecting his loved ones from dying so that Miles won’t fall into the same fate as Peter. Peter Parker in the game also didn’t feel inspired or reinvigorated by Miles. Instead, Miles just made him feel shit about himself and want to retire, which is against the concept of Spider-Man which is to inspire people.
Miguel isn't even supposed to be Brown, which is funny.

Balancing his normal life with his Spider-Man life was a big part of the Peter Parker, he decides to retire after the events of the game because he feels he failed MJ and people close to him, but the thing is, in this game Peter is basically having the worst week of this life, there's Kraven, all the villains he freed, his best friend becomes a novice superhero and then starts dying and Peter begins being controlled by Venom. The original Peter would be like "Damm that week was hard but i gotta make up for it now" because the original character that wasn't written by a square headed woman was really passionate about helping people and one of his major character flaws was that he beat himself up too much about things that he really couldn't help (he had to learn the hard way that he can't save everyone with Gwen's death), But the one from the game is guilt tripped by MJ into not protecting his city because she wants him close, even though she previously didn't fell the necessity of living with him. And about Miles, he is a good character (I personally really like him) his struggle is, in every other interpretation he becomes Spider-Man after Peter dies and he is 15-ish years old, he is way too young to be a hero but he is the only one capable and he feels that, he is a inexperienced Spider-Man in a world that has already really experienced villains and that is why it's so satisfying seeing him grow more and more each fight, but in this game he becomes Peter's peer right from the get go witch just skips over all his character development and makes him unrelatable and therefore unlikable. Miles's new outfit is gross, completely gross, it has a really zoomery color scheme and the basketball shoes and hair showing is them making sure you can tell just looking at him even with the mask and no skin showing that he is black, witch in my opinion is giving the message that he is not Spider-Man as much as he is the Black Spider-Man and i can't even begin to explain how backwards this is.
