Neither are the old neighbors, its like a foreign life and has very determined sinners. But my devotions are from and about this Jesus again. Im not sure what Jesus is going around at the churches ive tried but, in Acts its the post pentecostal church and true to those who believe. Thanks for your message to the churches.

I'm just an old fashioned Baptist preacher and have never been to seminary or any of that but love expository preaching trying to always faithfully draw from the history that leads up the Scripture I'm preaching from. So Sunday night I'm preaching on Mt 16 and calling it a A Confession For The Ages and using it as a springboard for other confessions of note and this is another one. In studying it struck me that BOTH Mt 16 and Acts 17 were confessions made in absolute meccas of idolatry. Peter made his surrounded by Pan worship and Paul surrounded by tons of Greek and Roman idols but my question is did you ever look into the Hymn of Zeus? Paul quotes it when he mentions that "we are his offspring" and the thing that I want to try and not is that most famous confessions weren't made in favorable conditions but were made as almost "battle cries" and oddly enough wasn't Mar's Hill named for the Roman god of War "Mars" but then the Aeropagus was named for the Greek god of war Ares but there Paul sorta chose to "do battle"? Am I off base in my thinking in these two particular Scriptures and how adversarial conditions often serve as prime real estate for great confessions? I'd love to hear your response to this just because I want to always try and pick a greater brain than my own before I take something to the pulpit. Sorry for the long post but... I'm a Baptist... Hello brethren! The statement about the most important thing about a man is what he thinks of what he thinks of God. Another pearl that I got was the idea that God is our creator is far more important than what our believes her regarding how old the earth is; And that God is my creator. This is a useful technique for sharing the gospel
I believe that even with the Greeks, God also allowed them to use freewill to digest and belive in the Resurrection. I believe that Paul as any of us is simply a vessel, it is God who is working through us by the way of the Holy Spirit. They got the message and was left to chose either to believe or reject Christ's Resurrection. There was no need for Paul or us to doubt that God's work was not done as God Himself predestined. It's seems that the critics of Paul's message, missed the point in the book of Jonah. His message was even shorter and given with a bitter heart. Its the Holy Spirit that does the work, not Paul, not Jonah, not any prophet or man. God knew the hardness of heart of those people. But for the few that believed, Paul's message was enough. So I would say Paul was very intentional with that message. It's comparable, of course, more important than the Gettysburg address which is very short and to the point. And of course I wasn't there. But my feeling is that he knew that when he mentioned the resurrection his address is finished. He laid ground work for believing in God which to pagans need it. The Jews in his synagogue already had that foundation, just like many Americans or people in the West or maybe all around the world. There are many people who have a foundation of knowing about God and who he is and what he's done and so in the message of Christ comes. They have a foundation to receive it but with the pagans it was a different thing. They had no law to bring them to Christ
