Pianote, I watched you video on minor pentatonic scales, While you were running up and down the scale do you play the chord progression from the natural or harmonic minor . Thanks in advance
The best lessons come from people who just learned something because how to fundamentally grasp it is so fresh in their heads. Thanks for this breakdown.
Wow! The Pentatonic (Major & Minor) On the Guitar - Are still a Mystery to me. Was thinking they will be Easier to understand on the Piano. Appreciate this Lesson🥰🥰🥰. Thanks Lisa😀
I think pentatonic is easier on guitar, because it's based on patterns. The issue on the piano is to create similar patterns that are easy to visualize.
I was 7 when I discovered the black keys and the sustain peddle! MAN! Any emotion was just a few slams away. Now when little kids are banging on the piano at church, I say that whatever they play on the black keys is fine! In high school, I learned the blues/jazz scale - pentatonic plus the tritone. It only took nearly 50 years later to learn the word "tritone."
Useful as always. I have a request, can you please make a tutorial on 'how to create a story with melodies'. I know it sounds dumb, but i see musicians talking about this all the time. Would be a great help if you did it... 🙏🙏🙏
I have been making music for a long time and had problems with the harmonies. After your videos, I found motivation and ideas for the music again. You explain it so easily and your smile is contagious. Many Thanks! :)
Thanks Lisa!!! I never tried to implement the pentatonic scale on the piano was so used to playing it on my guitar. Now I'm seeing both instruments and everything's becoming more clear. The piano is actually making me understand the guitar a lot better and vice versa.
One of the first scale learned in guitar. I'm absolutely loving your videos! It's inspired me to play the piano... Ish... I'm calling it piano for guitarist lol tanks!
Oh absolutely! And it would be easy to just pretend I knew it all this time :) But it IS a life long learning, as you say. I think it's important that people know it's ok if you don't know something. You can always learn it, and it's never too late!
Thank you so much Lisa. My other instrument is the guitar, so pentatonic is nothing new to me. But I really admire you for saying that you didn't know about this before, this is what makes a big difference because it shows that even a "master of the keys" (like you are) can learn new things and is also a scholar sometimes. Nevertheless I notice that when you play those progressions they really sound like a masterpiece (compared to when I play them) because you have the perfect timing and velocity to hit the keys on the keyboard. Something I obviously need to practice to get into a "legato" mode. ;-)
That's so nice of you to say! I feel like every guitarist knows about this scale, but it's not as common on the piano. As for legato -- don't forget the pedal ;) It's a piano player's secret weapon.
if you're learning how to play piano by ear- YOU NEED TO SUBSCRIBE!!! You have been the biggest help in just the two videos I've watched. Thank you SO much!!
Great teacher. I've played guitar for 50 years but have always loved and admired piano. I picked up some keyboards and taught myself a little, but I don't know if I'm using the right fingers for the notes. You are an amazing instructor and I plan to watch all of your upcoming videos. Thank You !
Thank you for the link, I learned about the pentatonic scales using Solfa. The major is doh, re, me, soh, la, and the minor is la, doh, re, mi soh, la. You make it look so easy when you are improvising, I am inspired.
Im inspired by the way you teach piano lessons. Im hungry to learn more. But the think is, i dont have the money to buy one. Its just sad 😕. Keep it up. Ill be watching u guys. 🤗 Godbless
A simple but great lesson! Thank you Lisa for writing down the lesson and for the timecodes. I got confused in the beginning because my mind was on the Pentascale. Then I learned that the Pentatonic scale is not the same as the Pentascale except that both only use 5 notes. There are so many different types of scales. Thanks for the lesson!
Oh my gosh, there's a pentascale?! Well, there's another scale I had never heard of before :) Ok, I just looked it up! I call that the Five-Finger scale because you only play the five notes that naturally rest under your five fingers. I had no idea it was called the pentascale! I learned something new today :)
@@PianoteOfficial We both learned the same thing today. To elaborate just a little, the Pentascale has this formula for determining the major scale: Whole Whole Half Whole steps. The A major scale would be A-B-C#-D-E. For the A minor scale, take the 3rd note and lower it a half. The formula then would be Whole Half Whole Whole steps or A-B-C-D-E. I was reading up on this today just before I listened to your video and got confused. Then I realized oh, they are different. Haven't practiced them much but I think the Pentatonic scale is prettier to play. Love your videos!
Another amazing lesson. I use this for guitar. Especially integrating minor and major pentatonic. With the flat 7th and flat 5th. I've use this to make melodies, but I'm never sure which chords to harmonize with it. This gives good insight into harmonizing those melodies.
Thanks, Lisa, for widening my vocabulary. I have zero musical education and have been just jam myself with piano just for myself amusement only and discovered that if I don’t use white keys located from left from black keys group, then all sounds pretty nice for ear. And now you say that this is called pentatonic… :)
If you're going to play pop music Blues jazz Rock you need to incorporate the regular pentatonic scale and the blues pentatonic scale and learn how to play fast and know when to slow it down

It's amazing the things that we 'know' without knowing the name for it!
Useful as always.

🙏🙏🙏
That's a great suggestion. I'd like to see this as well!
You can start with major chords and play with it, and then play the augmented chords and turn to minor chods, that really makes a story
What an amazing and inspiring teacher, just love her presentations and so easy to follow. Thank you

That's so great! I think as musicians there is so much we can learn from other instruments!

Thanks so much ... all of your videos are very helpful in understanding
Music in it self is a life long learning process. Don't you agree ;) ? You're a fantastic teacher !!

I’ve been playing the pentatonic scale on guitar and bass my whole life but never realized how beautiful it can be, until learning piano from you !

The pentatonic scale for Gm is: 1,3,4,5,7 (G,Bb,C,D,F) if you do not use G's relative minor (E).

This is the traditional Chinese scale, so using it will make your music sound"Chinese". A case in point is Colorful Clouds Chasing the Moon.
Thanks for your fabulous lessons ! You are awesome ! !

Thanks, Lisa, for widening my vocabulary. One important thing to add and that is the Blues pentatonic scale is different and sounds different
If you're going to play pop music Blues jazz Rock you need to incorporate the regular pentatonic scale and the blues pentatonic scale and learn how to play fast and know when to slow it down
Take a look at the blues pentatonic scale and the regular pentatonic scale play them both
Thank you God bless
That’s what traditional chinese music is based on.

Learning in a half note and Quarter notes is the same ways to practice
I’ve mastered the pentatonic scale on guitar but found it impossible to visualise on piano, thanks for the instructional video!
Thank you so much
Very nice.
E minor Pentatonic note degrees will be 1 3 4 5 7 and not 6 as narrated although the video description showed as 6 correctly
What a great teacher! I wish you'd have taught me algebra. I might have understood it. Thank you!
Haha thank you. If I had taught you algebra you would have failed math. But music, music I can teach :)
Awesome
We love you snow white
Thank you .
You are the best
Could you maybe do a video on chord progression, I've been told about this so many times but it just doesn't stick in my head😁
