    Anyone say what you will about Obama, but I remember when his inauguration was broadcast at my school. Every kid at my middle school went to the auditorium to watch it live. I remember my teacher (who's African-American) crying and clapping with such joy alongside my teachers and fellow classmates. At the time I didn't think much, but as I got older I realized how important that election was to her, and all of us. Truly a milestone to be remembered.

    I know you don't read this, Bill, but this was one of the best shows you've produced in a very long time. The monologue was hilarious, the senator informative, and your guests shared their views instead of trying to dominate. Great show. Well done.

      It’s never good. Milo was the best episode because he challenged the typical liberal group think circle jerk echo chamber that ruins this show. Bill never wants strong trump supporters on the panel, only weak, docile, spineless trump hating “republicans.” The sake weak republicans that trump beat in primary or that corrupt democrats would easily beat. Bill doesn’t like to challenge himself in debate. He’s like Hillary, he likes rigging debates and primaries.

      Respiratory Drive what makes them lawful? The possesion of a badge and gun?

    • @brandonjohnson2350
      @brandonjohnson2350 6 років тому +3

      The constitution and the respective state and municipality make it lawful. Officers are bound by law to affect an arrest when a crime is committed. Unless that crime is deemed to be civil in nature. In this case you have a man who is much much larger than those officers and resisted arrest. If he would have complied he probably would have received a citation and would have been released. But instead he resisted. He was also very over weight and had a history of heart disease and asthma. And weirdly enough his daughter died from a heart attack just a year or so after he did. Weird? And I'll tell you this much. I have trained jiu-jutsu for a while. If he was being "choked" he would have been unconscious in a few seconds. Even an air choke can put you to sleep fairly quickly.

    • @RespiratoryDrive-vy9ih
      @RespiratoryDrive-vy9ih 6 років тому

      Iam2flycam awa, when a criminal commits a crime and a person who has been given the legal authority to stop, detain, subdue, and arrest said criminal, yes the badge gives the officer the right to give LAWFUL ORDERS. Eric garner CLEARLY TURNED AWAY and tried to EVADE police. The officer executed a LAWFUL takedown which 99.99999999999999999999999999999% of the population would have survived. Gardner had documented SERIOUS heart and health issues. Garner committed suicide by cop. He was not murdered.

    The concept of a generation is so stupid. Someone one year younger than you can be a different generation, but people 19 years older than you has the same label? It’s silly how people treat these identities like zodiac signs, like if you’re born in this decade you have this personality. If you are going to claim a label there should at least be a blended time of nuance, if you’re born in 1981 you’re kind of between X and millenial, I wouldn’t say Jason is the same generation as someone born in 1997, but also not the same as someone born in 1965

    In response to the question of police, I recommend this series of simple measures:
    First, mandate that every officer live in the precincts in which they serve. Yes, the necessary transfers will be inconvenient in the short term, but people are less likely to shoot someone they live next door to on a whim.
    Second, institute a system of discipline that we commonly acknowledge works in the military -- hold the entire unit accountable for the bad apples. I recommend setting a policy where, for every fatality -- justified or not! -- that occurs in a precinct, either in the station house or in the field involving an officer, every single officer in that precinct, from the captain on down, automatically loses 2% off of their pension. The carrot to this stick is that, for every year that goes by without a single fatality in that precinct, every officer, again from the captain down to the newest rookie, gets a 5% bump in their pensions.
    Institute this and watch the body count drop.

    Which has been claimed by every generation that ever was about "young people today." And of course, it's always what's wrong with *this* generation of young people, and *never* their own.
    In the 1950s, lax parents (you should take away those comic books!) and disrespectful kids, we were told, is what gave us beatniks and might lose us the Cold War.
    In the 1960s, lax parents (you should take away that weird British music!) and disrespectful kids, we were told, is what gave us hippies and might lose us the Cold War.
    In the 1970s, lax parents (you should take away their TV!) and disrespectful kids, we were told, is what gave us mindlessly disco dancing weirdos and might lose us the Cold War.
    In the 1980s, lax parents (you should take away their MTV!) and disrespectful kids, we were told, is what gave us materialistic parachute pants wearing brats and might lose us the Cold War.
    In the 1990s, lax parents (you should take away their video games!) and disrespectful kids, we were told, is what gave us deranged GenXers and might lose us the Cold ... oh wait... we won? In spite of beatniks, hippies, disco dancers, yuppies (who weren't the kids of the Eighties but hey) and GenXers? Well, they're still self-absorbed, shallow, just go back to the 50s or 60s and fill in the blank from here.
    And now, of course, lax parents (what are we supposed to take away now? EDM? Anime?) and disrespectful kids, we are told, is what gives us these horrid Millinneals and might lose us the, um... the War on Terror?
    And of course "that generation" never, ever lives "in my house," but they are always, always far too common in "a lot of other houses."
    Same as it ever was, same as it ever was.

It was 20 years of horrible monetary policy by Alan Greenspan that resulted in an over-leveraged inflated real estate bubble that went burst. We shouldn't subsidize anything. Enough corporate welfare. I don't want my tax money to be given to businesses so they can make mediocre products no one wants to buy, only for the government (i.e. taxpayers) to bail out over and over. Enough with that shit.
      If any industry wants to make a profit, then it needs to make stuff that people want to buy, at reasonable prices. Not grease the palms of corrupt politicians so they give it more of our tax money.
      switchgyrl - Farmers make money by working the land and selling their product to willing buyers. If agricultural products are that important to us, then we'll buy them ourselves without the government telling us to. And us buying it is what will enrich farmers. That's where farmers should make their profit, not by taking even more money on top of that from taxpayers.

    I'm not going to lie, I like President Barrack Obama, but as a History major who has studied the U.S. Presidents, I would place him in the 11-15 range in terms of ranking the Presidents; overall his administration was good but he could have done more (though the Republican obstruction in Congress played a part in this), but very little he did I would say was bad for the country as a whole, however I do worry what his legacy will be and what will remain after Trump is longer President.

    What is up with Bill Maher? I didn't think he had a hang-up about gay people, but he was really kind of rude and condescending to Andy Cohen and really for no reason. Sometimes guests will say things to get a reaction, but Andy was polite and he wasn't trying to dominate the conversation or over-talk anyone. You could see by his face how disappointed he was by the inappropriateness of Bill's behavior.

    On the issue of PC culture and PC policing: Yes, true liberals need to take a stand for moderate and sensible middle grounds. I see comedians doing it all the time, and I do as well. We can also take a page from the right's playbook- co-opt their language. They label the left as overly sensitive cucks and PC snowflakes; I make a point of doing the same. When they talk about a "war on Christmas" and "being silenced" when anyone dares to speak out against them, I make my rational points, punctuated with terms like "snowflakes" and "safe spaces".
    For instance, if they say Tomi Lahren or Laura Ingraham are being "silenced" because they lose sponsors due to corporations not wanting to support their shows after stupid comments they made, or claiming it is a free speech issue, I point out that they still have the right to free speech, in that they can say what they want, and aren't being arrested or imprisoned. Nothing about free speech says that you are guaranteed an audience, or to be paid for your speech. In a capitalist system, corporations have the right to support, or not, the speech that best represents them, and citizens have the right to boycott (the tea party, suffrage movement, civil rights movement, etc.). Also, people on the opposite side have the right to free speech, and voicing the opposite opinion is not them trying to "silence" you. However, while making these points, I try to incorporate the alt-right terms, just as they have done with "political correctness"- use their terms against them like they did with "PC" and "fake news". Call them snowflakes for being overly sensitive about criticism. Tell them to go back to their "safe space" of FOX "news", where their opinions will be reinforced and never challenged. In short, weaponize their terminology the same way that they do with ours- turn it into a derogatory term that they will no longer wish to use, because the meaning has been changed. If "snowflake" means a conservative who whines whenever a liberal challenges one of their stupid ideas, the alt-right will stop using it; the same goes for "space spaces" referring to propaganda institutions like FOX "news".

    Couple of things:
    First, I have accepted the label “Generation Z;” I think it’s annoying, but I understand it as the logical successor to “Generation X” and the misguided and rushed “Generation Y.” That said, I am waiting with cynically baited breath to see what the next generation title or label winds up being. We hit the end of the alphabet, but it’s not like people are going to stop having kids any time soon. So we all know it’s coming; I’m just curious to see how pretentious it will be.
    Second... FFS Bill, Andy Cohen isn’t even the first openly gay guest you’ve had on your show! Does EVERY question, comment, or joke made to him have to be an innuendo? And yes, I think Jason Kander was spot on when he called you out for insinuating that you thought Andy was hitting on him (which he wasn’t, BTW). You’ve never talked to Dan Savage that way when he’s been on your show. At least Andy took it in good humor. Still, god damn, dude; get it together and try treating your guests like people rather than stereotypes.

The warping of stories is something I see plenty so to be honest I can't just take someones anecdote as supreme end all evidence of a point they are making. Sorry. My comment was also contextually made with regard to how they talk about the cops handling dangerous situations where someone gets shot at by the cops.

      "Last year, in total, British police officers actually fired their weapons three times. The number of people fatally shot was zero. In 2012 the figure was just one. Even after adjusting for the smaller size of Britain’s population, British citizens are around 100 times less likely to be shot by a police officer than Americans. Between 2010 and 2014 the police force of one small American city, Albuquerque in New Mexico, shot and killed 23 civilians; seven times more than the number of Brits killed by all of England and Wales’s 43 forces during the same period.
      The explanation for this gap is simple. In Britain, guns are rare. Only specialist firearms officers carry them; and criminals rarely have access to them. The last time a British police officer was killed by a firearm on duty was in 2012, in a brutal case in Manchester. The annual number of murders by shooting is typically less than 50. Police shootings are enormously controversial."
