Come and experience Scotland anytime. Beautiful scenery, good fresh air, welcoming and friendly people, weather a wee bit unreliable most days.😅
I'm Scottish and live in Scotland, probably a wee bit biased.

You are no biased at all laddie. As a Scot; I am extremely proud of my country, our banished Royal Family, and our prowess. Though as a young lad of 15, my father emigrated to Australia, much against the protestation of my mother and I, it broke my heart the day the ship pulled away from the dock at Tilbury. From then on (1961) I yearned to return to back to Scotland, but in order to honour the wishes of my father and my mother's father (Grandpa) I remained in Australia much against my wishes. I married 51 years ago to a Scottish girl who was never keen to return. However; she honoured my wishes to go back to my beloved Highlands and told me to go back for Three weeks. Twelve months later, I came back to Australia and to World War III. Two years later, when I asked the wife if it were OK if I went back to Scotland, she said OK but asked the question: "How long are you going back for" I said: "THREE WEEKS" My wife responded: I Seem to have heard that before"! However; three weeks it was that I was back for. There were tears in my eyne when I left home again; never to return. Regardless of how often I pleaded with my wife to return back home, I got a negative answer. There is an old saying: "YOU CAN TAKE THE LAD OUT OF SCOTLAND, BUT YOU WILL NEVER TAKE SCOTLAND OUT OF THE LAD!! ALBA GU BRAGH!!!!!

@@AngusMacKinnon-xm5ko Australia seemed so far away all those years ago when you were 15, the opposite side of the world. It doesn't seem so far away nowadays. I've never lived anywhere but here. I'm close to my family, unless we had moved somewhere together, I wouldn't have gone too far. I suppose in your heart there's something always drawing you back to your roots. You don't miss much here anyway, the weather is worse than it was when I was young, I've got a long memory.

      Im born and bred Scot
The scenery especially in the west and its islands quite stunning
But all of Scotland is not up to this standard
The cities are becoming litter strewn and its highways are polluted with rubbish
I live in Largs a lovely place in its own right but its not the town I knew 5o years ago
And most places have became alike
The rubbish stops at Tyndrum people in rural areas value their environment
But the towns and cities are becoming scuzzy to say the least
So paint a realistic picture not a delusion
I love my country the scenery as i said is beyond poetic
But the populas areas are not!!!!!!

Wow! I feel like I was MEANT to see this video. About 11 years ago I went on a tour at that cemetary. As soon as I entered the gates, I was so overwhelmed with the spirits of what felt like God or angles that I sat down. I told the tour guide that this felt like holy ground and I felt like I couldn't stand up. He asked me if the presence was coming from a certain area of the cemetary. I pointed towards an area that was maybe 30 feet away and he said, "that is where the Martyrs are buried." I have photos of it still and just looked at them. I still felt the same feeling... and I stopped looking at my photos. It wasn't a bad feeling, but it was HEAVY. LIKE SADNESS and holiness all mixed together. I've never felt anything else like it

I spent the better part of a month in Scotland visiting our Family's Castle, the Scottish countryside, large towns and small quaint villages. I am a direct descendant of Gordon Highlanders. When I (we) arrived in Scotland and began touring/exploring, I had an overwhelming feeling that I was finally home; I felt as though I truly belonged there. I identified with the wonderful people and beautiful country; I felt very much at home. It was a spiritual & emotional experience, particularly when we visited our once Family Castle (I am a descendant of Gordon Highlanders & our castle is Huntly Castle); my mother & her sister inherited the castle shortly after The Depression here in America. As they didn't have the money to travel to Scotland to assume possession of the castle, my mom & her sister signed the it over to the Scottish Government. They did a wonderful job restoring it, though some of it is in ruins. My sister, myself, husbands & my 86 year old mother visited the castle (we explored every inch!). There were a lot of tears, joy and spiritual feelings of belonging there. It WAS an amazing day, a moving experience. We met our cousins over there, and they joined in on the Huntly Castle excursion. It was an Amazing day (and me Mum got to see her castle 😊). I've seen other comments here on how people were spiritually moved, felt an overwhelming belonging when they visited Scotland - I totally get that. I too felt like I was at/in a place where I'd been before, especially when I visited small villages where my distant relatives were born and lived. I truly appreciate this video: the folklore and true stories were of great interest. Though I've read & heard it before, it was a great refresher of some of Scotland's history. If you ever have an opportunity to see Scotland, GO! The people ARE wonderful, and the country IS beautiful. I fell madly in love with Scotland. ❤

Bless such a sad time for you mum to give up a beautiful castle. I bet she was heart broken to let it go. The other side to your story is what happened to the Scottish people who depended on the lady of the castle for there lively hood. Their lives could of been totally different if you family managed to get back home.
I too have a Scottish connection but sadly don't live there. But I live in Wales which also makes me feel like home like Scotland does.. x

When I was a little girl, 6 or 7 years old, I often heard the drums and bagpipes played by the high school band very close to my home in America. I would stop whatever I was doing and listen, mesmerized and then begin to weep silently. A decade and a half later, our family visited my aunt, and I was invited into her "Scottish Room". There, on every surface and every wall were maps, documents and photos, during which, she shared stories of our Scottish ancestors. I am truly a lucky woman. My aunt spent 50 years her life, as a genealogist, member of DAR- Daughters of the American Revolution, and Peace Corp volunteer, compiling, visiting world places, and sourcing proof documents, discovering and preserving, our family history. Up until that point, I knew nothing of our family lineage and suddenly it all made sense; my inexplicable, sentimental tears for the music of an ancient homeland I have never been to; for the soil I have yet to touch. I feel certain now, that not just the mind, but the body, remembers its roots, across generations and the centuries before. I have often argued this position, by asking: "Does not an Oak tree know where and when it will grow?", "Does not the tide return each day of the year, and at near precisely the same day and time as the year before?" My entire body tingles when the pipes and bouhdrans play, and the tears still flow. I am coming Scotland. Alba go bragh

What an interesting lady your Aunt is! And I can so very relate to feeling physical and mental ties to Scotland. I grew up being told I was half Irish and half German, but after having my DNA tested by Ancestry, I learned that I'm 60% Scottish, 30% Welch, 4% Irish, 4% German and 2% Swedish. Now I understand why anything Scottish fills me with a deep feeling of home. That's the best way I can describe it.

Scotland, my home, is beautiful, and visitors who respect her are very, very welcome. Sadly, we are inundated now with the kind of visitor nobody wants..... tourists who drop litter, campervanners who leave their rubbish just anywhere and empty their chemical toilets in burns, at the roadside, in private gardens, drivers who break speed limits, drive like maniacs and drink and drive, visitors who tear up rare wild flowers, and damage monuments and geological features.......... we have this kind of visitor in spades. Rainy weather. Guinness. History of the Picts, Scots, Irish, Welsh and English. I would like to live out my retirement in Scotland in a small cottage. Maybe someday I will. After James II, those in line for the throne were James' daughters Mary and Anne, and after them William of Orange. Mary who was the wife of William of Orange was offered the crown, but William and Mary became joint monarchs. It has been suggested (strongly) they became joint rulers due to William throwing a fit at the thought of his wife being his superior. It would appear that Mary II being a joint ruler and the daughter of James did not make up for her husband not being a Scot.

I wonder where the White horse, Waterhorse stories come from? My Mum is Scottish, ( maternal Myles, Honeyman, paternal Grant) but i was born in Australia, and never been there. Yet i had a recurring dream throughout my childhood of a white horse, with which i was trapped, endlessly struggling for freedom. Until one day we leaped a fence and were free.

i Love Scotland although i haven't visited since childhood.
without doubt it's the most beautiful part of our island.
lived there for a short time growing up, we spent the second half of my first year of secondary school in Dumfries in the lowlands.
having just done 'bonnie prince Charlie' start to finish in Manchester i was seriously keen, still being a fan of historical record back then, when we were told we'd be studying it start to finish there.
i quickly realised why they had been saving until after the summer holidays.
a hero down south, or so it's taught, what a rotter he in fact was i was stunned to learn the details left out of my schooling in Manchester.
that was how i learned, in eighty three, that history is at best propaganda...
