  • Thanks for stopping by my channel and hanging out with me for another video! Today I am sharing a super satisfying fridge and pantry restock + a weekly Aldi grocery haul. I haven't done a full on weekly grocery shop in a while and even though there were a few extras in this shop (2 x laundry detergents - just to get the canister filled back up) and a few 'nonessentials' it still was a shock when it came to the total at the checkout!!!

    Wait! What? TWO videos in ONE week??? Could we be getting back into a good enough routine of work, school, housekeeping and all the rest of it to manage more videos 😍 maybe!!! I hope you enjoy a super satisfying pantry and fridge restock of our weekly grocery haul...I can't remember the last time I did a full week's shop but holy moly it was PRICEY!!! I know grocery prices have skyrocketed here (along with absolutely EVERYTHING else from rent and utilities to Disney and Apple music subscriptions!!!) I think I will HAVE to put out two videos a week just to keep the kids housed and fed 😅 I am actually really looking forward to getting back into a good routine with school now back and things getting back to a new kind of normal!!!

      My oldest grandson Josh is 16, he's been working now for couple of yrs and is great at saving his money. He is studying for his highers at the moment too, he gets his head down and gets on with it. My daughter says she buys both her boys what they need, not what they want, so if Josh wants a another pair of high end trainers he buys them himself. It's great as a gran to see how much common sense he has in regard to his savings. He wants to be able to buy himself a car when he passes his driving test.

      Food prices have gone way up in India too....I guess bulk cooking and replacing expensive items with cheaper alternatives and finding best deals on fish, meat and fresh produce will save a couple of pennies here and there

      Haha yes I was talking to the boys about budgeting and crazy cost of living - Jake as he is was working 3 days a week in the holidays commented 'Life's a rat race mum and I'm already in it' 😝😅 which is why I am cracking down on him to save hard while young and living expense free and Riley said he doesn't want to grow up and be an adult because it's all just too expensive (that was after our trip to ALdi where we both always try and guess the total grocery bill - usually we are pretty close but this time we were both wayyyyyy off!!!

    It’s great that you’re getting some kind of routine back - it must feel great.
    Groceries, the cost of living in general, is getting so crazy. It helps to to see how other families manage their shopping. I might try Aldi this week, I haven’t done a big shop there for a while. I’m getting organised again and avoiding buying coffee on the way to work or buying lunch. Even with groceries going up, it’s still so much cheaper to make coffee/tea, yoghurt & muesli for breakfast, wraps/salad etc all at home.
    Your stocked fridge looks amazing! The bull cooking is brilliant too. Definitely my sign to get back into it all. Thank you!

    Not looking forward to our grocery shop this coming weekend. Back to school haul for 4 teens! I'm fortunate that I have a great Italian market next to my local Aldi. It takes 1.5 -2 hours to do a full shop and sometimes popping into Coles. I then cook Monday's dinner and prep for another one. Also bring my lunches from home. My morning break I prepare cut veggies, fruit and slices of tasty/cheddar cheese in the containers ready to go!

During covid lockdown they went up to 1.25. A couple months ago they went up to 2.65 for the same 2-pk. Some people are paying almost 10 for a dozen eggs. Milk's gone up, some veggies have gone up or are simply unavailable.
    Our electric bill jumped by 100 though and other expenses are even crazier. It's disgusting what's happening in our countries.

    I always feel motivated to start with the meal-prep, but I'm sceptical about how long I can keep prepared meal in my fridge. Or do you put it in freezer and then defrost on the day that it will be consumed? What's your "procedure" with these basic sauces, like bolognese?

    • @TheSundayStylist
      @TheSundayStylist  Рік тому +1

      Definitely double check the dates on the meats first - I usually shop and meal prep on a Monday and plan to eat anything from the fridge in the first three days - longer than that it's best to freeze. Cool cooked food as quickly as possible to under 4oC to avoid it being left in the temperature 'danger zone' (between 4oc and 60oC is where bacteria can grow and multiply quickest) Divide your prepped food into portion sizes you will use in one meal so for eg your not taking a big container of prepped meal base like chicken in and out of the fridge multiple nights to use for dinner - this temperature drop/fluctuation will decrease shelf life - once it's cold keep it cold and always reheat to over 70oC (all the way through the food being reheated) for minimum 2 minutes. A bonus of having worked in a food safety training school for 7 years 😅

I will try to keep up with watching the videos but, most likely won't comment too often....I am glad to see that you and the boys (and Freddy) have a good return back and running and are thriving...xx

      They are mostly Idesign - I have them all linked in the description of this video - more expensive than the cheapest plastic fridge organisers you can find but a lot of these containers I have had for almost ten years and the newer ones 3-4 years still look as good as new!!!

    Our grocery spemd has gone from about R6000 for two of us to easily R8000 if I don't get prepared food. 700 odd Aus dollars. We are fortunate to eat high quality foods, but people are taking strain.
    I really enjoy the grocery hauls and the interesting food.

      I can imagine how much the rising cost of everything is affecting families - it puts a huge strain on the family budget. I have started working an extra day a week at my job (thankfully we are busy enough at work to be able to) but once the busy period slows down - I'll be needing to increase the YT videos to keep up with the crazy costs of living!!!

    My fridge could do with a sort out. The prices are crazy, many things are up 40%. I’d love to see a video with keeping the costs down if you have any tips/ideas. You have different products to us in Aldi UK. I did get the mini ice creams for my son this week and was surprised they are still £1:69 here

      I think Aldi seems to have the smallest price increases - I did notice that all their cleaning products have increased though - it's like we are getting hit with three years of price increases all at once!!!

    Eggs, Are 5.00 dollars per carton and I think since I live on a farm, I should just go get some chickens this summer !!!
    At our Aldi’s, We definitely have to check the dates on everything because sometimes I forget and I get home and my milk has expired and I don’t mean just expired I mean almost to the point of becoming
    curdled.
    Every time you buy something from Kmart it makes me wish we still had a Kmart because even Walmart getting expensive, gas. Oh my God I don’t know what’s going on in the world inflation but I’m glad you have an apartment and I know you I know you, so well, that I know you will make it gorgeous as always

      Things are crazy expensive and I know what you mean by the expiration dates last time we went to Costco almost all meat had a date of the very next day 🤨 I haven’t bought anything from Kmart in ages (the canister is a good few years old) but they have some awesome stuff at the moment 😍♥️🥰

    I would love to know your chicken recipe… looks like something we would eat here 🙂

    • @TheSundayStylist
      @TheSundayStylist  Рік тому

      This slow cooked chicken is super basic - it's just chicken thighs browned and then add a jar of tomato based pasta sauce - cook it on low or in the slow cooker until it falls apart. I then will add taco seasoning for Mexican meal bases, Morocan Seasoning and a can of chick peas and maybe sweet potato to have with couscous, add olives and herbs or as is with pasta for cacciatore style chicken - you could add onion and garlic and stock to the clow cooked base but if you are adding other seasonings as you use it for meals throughout the week - you don't really need to 👍

    Curious how much a dozen eggs are in Australia? In the eastern US they are between $5-$6☹️

    • @TheSundayStylist
      @TheSundayStylist  Рік тому +3

      Here they are $4.50-$5 AUD for the generic/Aldi brand free range/barn raised (not cage) more expensive brands around $6-7 and organic around $8 -$12 needless to say we buy the generic but would give up eggs over buying caged 🥲

    We've stopped having take out and are watching what we spend on groceries and really watching what is on special at the shops. It's crazy how much everything is costing these days! We are considering selling our second car and if we did that, we could charge $1000 less than what we paid for it 10 years ago because of how much second hand cars are costing. It's crazy!

    OMG ... even Aldi isn't affordable an more. 287 AUD equals approx 185 EUR. So, you have a week's groceries for 3 persons worth 185 EUR. I did my grocery haul at Aldi just yesterday. Just one non-essential item for 5 EUR, the rest was for the month, incl. some but not all fresh produce I will need in February: 180 EUR for a single person. It's giving me shivers as of where this will lead.
