Hi folks - first time commenter, long-time listener. I went to the dentist this morning to get a crown. The dentist had one of those TVs on the ceiling where you can watch Netflix. I put on Greatest Average American and the dentist was giggling the whole time. Pretty uncomfortable to have the dentist laughing while holding a drill in my mouth, but I made it out alive and you got a new fan! He said he's gonna listen to the podcast, so keep it up!

Thank you, folks. I really needed some laughs today. Norm was how I discovered Nate's comedy. During my college years, watching Norm's Weekend Update clips was a constant source of laughter. Norm's comedy was very special, much like Nate's, it was not political or ever aimed at demeaning another - he brought so much laugher over these years, as I'm sure it did to many others. Norm's passing is a reminder of how life is so very fragile, but also that having brought joy to someone's life is a remarkable thing to have accomplished. I'm sure Norm will live on through his stand-up, podcast, and late night show appearances. God bless you all, much love.

I can confirm for Nate, yes - Pope John Paul II was one of the most beloved popes. He was recently canonized as a saint. St. Pope John Paul II fought against Communism in his native Poland homeland as well as globally during the Cold War. He also wrote "Theology of the Body" which gave beautiful concepts of human sexuality and how marriage itself is a sacrament of love, not objectification. He was an exceptional pope. He also wrote plays and loved getting away into nature, skiing, hiking. Another fun fact - he wore Converses with his priestly robes. And he studied in an underground seminary during the German occupation. Just such an exceptional soul who truly loved the Church.

I teach Social Studies these days. I was in 7th grade on 9/11. I usually talk about it on September 11th (it's hard to get to modern times in US History or World History). My students were pretty locked in to hear my story and what I remembered from that day. We also watched the very short 30 for 30 about George W Bush throwing out the first pitch in the World Series that year. That documentary does a good job capturing the atmosphere of what it was like in the weeks after.
    I'll go proofread this now.

Hearing Nate talk about his church-league softball days up in Chicago reminded me of my buddy's story playing church-league basketball a few years ago: it was at a mega-church in the Dallas area, and when my friend (who never played competitive basketball) jumped on a team for fun with some of his friends, one night they found themselves playing against: former Dallas Cowboys tight end and Baylor Basketball's all-time leading rebounder: Rico Gathers, a former Dallas Maverick who's name I don't remember, and a guy who used to play in the Canadian Football League: Johnny Manziel. JK: Yes. The heisman-winning QB party boy Johnny Football Manziel. My friend said that game was a nightmare and they just tried to survive the 4 quarters of domination and avoid any altercation that would end up on TMZ.

I immediately pulled up the podcast on youtube because i knew the facial expression would not disappoint and then i replayed the blue man group part 5 times til tears were rolling down my face. Nate’s eye roll, Aaron’s wheeze. Classic, Nateland.

    Love the podcast guys!
I grew up in the Nashville area and during the summers in college in the early 90s I worked at old hickory country club mowing grass and such. I remember one summer I was watering the first fairway with a sprinkler head which was about 3 feet tall and attached to the main water pipe under the ground. I drove up to the sprinkler in a golf cart to move it. II got too close to it and hit it and it broke off the main pipe under the ground. A 30 foot geyser happened right in front of the first green. It would’ve been fine except for the fact that the patriarch of old Hickory golf, Mr. Harold Eller, was chipping on the first green. He was very nice about it and made me feel like I wasn’t the idiot that I truly was.
Keep up the great work with the podcast and let’s go folks!

Nate was saying it would be interesting to have a history teacher who lived through what you were studying. Well..... I was in my 20s when I was teaching 8th grade US History, and after one of our more depressing lessons about development and horrors of the 17th Century Transatlantic Slave Trade, I still remember one of my students at the end of class coming up to me and saying "Man Mr. Schubert, I'm really glad I wasn't alive back in your day." I questioned how epically I had failed as well as how old she thought I was. The same student also once asked me "When was color invented?" ...... not "color tv" or "color photography" but straight up "color".

"Carlos Condit, one of the best MMA welterweights of the aughts and beyond, has retired from the UFC, his longtime manager, Malki Kawa of First Round Management, confirmed Thursday with ESPN"

Ironically, we went to grab some iced coffee and walk around the folk festival after the show, and no joke, we think our barista quit after he took our order, LOL. He took our order and then just disappeared. Figured he had to make a fresh batch..? Well after 15 minutes or so of awkwardly waiting in this empty shop, this other employee asked us if we needed any help. We told her what we had ordered and she made them right on the spot. I don’t mean to spoil any jokes, but for the rest of the night, we were cracking up over the fact that your waitress joke about came true!!

American in London here - heard this on a packed tube train and was laughing out loud with Nate's confusion over the "aughts". I burst out laughing when he spelled it "ots". Aaron mentions that in England they call the 2000s the "noughties" and he's right, but it's not the "naughties" as it sounds to an American. In the UK they regularly use the word "nought," meaning none or zero, so "noughties" makes sense to Brits.

Hellooooo folks! This whole time, literally for 64 episodes, I've been thinking about how young Aaron is. Only today, when he mentioned that he was in 5th grade when 9/11 happened, did I realize that he and I are in fact the exact same age. My mind is officially blown. Finding out in 5th grade was a little bit different for me than it was Aaron, like was typical on most mornings, we were running late to school. My mom & I were listening to Bob & Tom, like all 11 year olds?, when they stopped the show to tell us that it was not a joke that a plane had just hit the first tower. It's no surprise now that I fill my days listening to podcasts since I grew up with only talk radio playing in the background. Also, my 2 year old daughter now says, Let's goooooooooo fox, when we get in the car. Fox is probably the closest I'll get to folks for a while.

Almost immediately after y’all assure Nate that his IQ level is high enough to miss out on the Paralympics, and that he could NOT qualify for a disability, we get this beauty…
At 1:23:21, as y’all are discussing Avatar, Nate says, “Y’all saw it??” Aaron and Brian both respond and comment on it. And then less than 25 seconds later, at 1:23:45, Nate says, “Did y’all see Avatar?”

You guys are the best!! My family calls me KJ and I felt SO special when you were talking about how much you like those two letters together 😍 I have been loving your podcast and have laughed out loud so many times... sometimes at inopportune time which cause me to nearly choke on whatever I'm eating or have to immediately spit out the mouthful of water I just took. Thanks for lifting my spirits with wholesome entertainment! I've been talking about your podcast to friends and family, and even tried out the "Hello, folks!" on my students 😉

While running the table rock 50K a guy mentioned a comedian that was hired to speak to a company. I let him finish the joke. I said he should have Said Let’s go folks!!! We were at mile 10 at that time. We both laughed. Love the podcast. Going to see you in Tampa in October. Keep up the great job Aaron, and barnacle.

In regards to your “2000s” episode, you mentioned how your daughter was trying to name the softball team after her favorite horse at the barn she has a job at, as a 9 year old. I couldn’t help but make a comment, because I too had a job as a 9 year old at the barn I learned to ride horses at. I started riding when I was 6, got my first horse when I was 7. But, when I was about 8 years old the barn had a Halloween party, and the whole viewing lounge was full of delicious food I discovered after I was done riding my horse with my friends. I went to grab some, and someone caught me and told me to scram because that food was “for the workers”, which was basically a group of riding students who also worked at the barn. I felt so left out, and I begged and begged my mom to let me work at the barn. It took some convincing, but after a little while my mom talked my trainer into letting me work, and I joined the elite group of “workers”. This was a large barn, about 70+ horses, and I had to feed, water, hay, and turnout/ bring in these horses. I worked pretty much every weekend and some days during the week after school. I thought I was SO COOL, because I got to help other students tack up their horses before lessons, I helped with summer riding camps, but most importantly… after about a year I got to drive the Gator loaded with hay. That was a whole new level of awesome, because it meant I didn’t have to drag the heavy hose around to water, or lug the cart of feed around, and it also meant I was able to delegate tasks to other less experienced workers. I found out later that I did all this work to pay for my lessons, which I just thought I was given a privilege. I didn’t realize I was working at all because I wanted to do it so badly, and I enjoyed it so much! I also found out later that the trainer at this barn got in trouble for having “child labor” and all of us students who were under 16 had to quit working (so pretty much everyone). We moved from that barn not long after that, but I continued to ride, and work as much as I could for other trainers I had and at other barns, until I made it my profession for a period of time in my 20s, and became a full time equine caretaker at a retired equine facility, doing the grunt work and overseeing operations for 20+/- horses by myself. To this date that is still my favorite job I’ve ever had. I unfortunately had to get a job that paid more since being an adult is expensive, but I still have the goal to own a boarding barn someday, and teach riding lessons. I also still have the same horse I got when I was 7. I am turning 30 this year, if that tells you how long we’ve been together. Having horses has been the best thing that’s ever happened to me, and has kept me focused on what I truly want in life, despite distractions that might have been more enticing to me had I not had the horses to keep me grounded and goal oriented.
My point with this is…. From the several times you’ve mentioned your daughter’s interest in horses on the show, It sounds like she has been “bit by the bug” of loving horses. It’s one of those things that just never goes away for the rest of your life. I can almost guarantee you that, if she’s working a job as a 9 year old scooping poop, cleaning water buckets, and throwing hay AND she is enjoying it, then she’s probably been bit by that horse bug. In my 20+ years of experience in this “industry” those who enjoy the work are not likely to quit the industry, it just gets more serious. Unless they are forced to for financial or family reasons, they will always at least be around horses if not own a few of their own. Best of luck to you, because nothing is going to keep her interest as strongly as the horses, but if this interest does continue, I promise it will only be good for her as she grows up.

I can commiserate with Nate. My daughter is Harper's age and she narrates her life like she's always making a UA-cam video. The Roblox/Mr. Beast jab at Aaron a few episodes ago was spot on and didn't get the shine it deserved. You guys could open the show with Harper saying, "Hey guys like this video and subscribe to my dad's channel!" Instead of having Nate do a voiceover during the outro.

Howdy folks. I'm just leaving this comment here so that Nate can pronounce my name correctly and with great confidence. I'm a big fan of Aaronland, I really enjoy it when Nate and Barnabas swing by for comments. Was wondering if you would do THE BIBLE as a topic for one show and talk about crazy bible stories like the one where David takes King Saul 200x philistines foreskins as a gift to get his daughter in marriage... anyhoo, this podcast is the highlight of my week!

Nate’s earnest delivery of “Is iCloud more important than iKnow what I’m doing?” made me drop my 2-year-old in my tracks. When Aaron and Beanbag didn’t flinch I thought it must have been scripted, but not even a genius with a 75 IQ could have come up with that framing in advance - “But… I don’t even.. agnhh… am I a part-?…”. Amazing.

Nate, youve told the Greg Geraldo/Hot tub time machine joke no less than 3 times now on the podcast, and every time you’ve told us, you’ve sounded as though it’s your first time to ever say it. Also probably why you have to explain it afterwards due to the dead silence cuz Aaron and Barney have heard it probably a dozen times and are more tired of it than we are.

I didn't know how much I needed to see the Slanket commercial until today. I finally understand why my life has felt so incomplete for so many years. I don't think I listened to or cared about anything else in this podcast. I can't even decide on my jokes here. Nate & Yannis look like less intelligent versions of Harry Potter & Ron Weasley hanging out in their wizard robes. I also think I understand your early jokes about Laura so much more now. Nate's lobster walk in front of the camera needs to be recreated.
And here's some good news, Nate Bargatze has the slowest and most surprising glow-up of all time between 2009 and 2021.
Also, I cackled that Nate still does not understand a gasp how many episodes later!!!???
Also, Diamond Hands Weber, I heard Slanket stock is on the rise after this episode aired. Wanted you to get in on the ground floor, buddy. Hope it goes better than game stop

I do remember the teacher bringing topic of the World Trade Center up in class, to which I responded “what is that?”. I had only ever heard it referred to as the “Twin Towers”, and had absolutely no idea what they were talking about. Thanks for the laughs and look forward to seeing you at the Agora in Cleveland.

I was stationed at Clark Air Base in the Philippines in the mid-80s. The King and His Court came to Clark to visit the troops. They played a 5 inning exhibition game against the Clark fast pitch team that won the all-services championship. Eddie Feigner was the pitcher and in 5 innings he struck out 14 batters. Probably the best player in the Air Force, TY Query, popped out and hit a grounder that turned into a double because they had to run and get the ball. It was the first hit that Feigner had given up all year. They beat us 5-0 and afterward told us it was the closest game they'd played in many years. Feigner was almost unhittable.
