Very interesting experiment never thought about it but it makes a lot of sense to thin out the small ones and allow the tree to concentrate on the bigger fruits.
Hey I love your content. I wanted to ask you if it would be possible to grow avocadoes using certain rootstocks (maybe duke 7) in a 50 percent clay alkaline soil. If I use enough mulching and ridges and good drainage? Thanks man
That sounds like too much clay to me. I have experimented with varying levels of native (clay-heavy) soil in my location in North Carolina. Even 1/3 clay and 2/3 good quality soil will harden up when it dries, and I would find that small seedlings struggle with it. About 1/6 to 1/5 native soil in the mix seems to be alright, and I have not lost any trees to root rot at that mixture.
Our young JB, first year in fruit, 14 feet tall, about 25 good sized fruits, but three days ago two drop and today another, know they should hold till later, is this late drop usual for young JBs ? know Lambs can have this issue Thx.
Hi Frank, That is weird. Cut them open to see if there are viable seeds inside the drops (not black, decayed seeds). Also, let me know if they taste good. JBs might taste fine this early for you.
Good information. Thank you so much for sharing 👍🥑
