      @@liamcalpine I am not a Logo designer particularly, I am UI/UX designer and my major tool was Adobe Photoshop. Illustrator is my favorite free time.

    This is gold! Thank you for sharing, it really feels like unlocking the formula to perfect logo shapes. As a graphic design student, this video absolutely blew my mind.     This single tutorial should have been shown in first year in Art colleges rather than a 3 hours lecture in which still we didn't know how to make a freaking simple logo 🤷

      @@copypaste3526 dont say bs like that. many art schools have great professors who have a lot of experience and can save you from a fuck ton of struggles, with great lectures and even greater textbooks accessible to you. yes, you can meet people there and make contacts thatll ease your future life, but its far from the only thing you get from it.

    you never explained the principle behind grids, it just seems like instructions for a specific logo not understanding the principle of logo design using grids

      @@tech_gigs5384 yep, and most graphics-related searches today end up his or Satori graphics videos - and Satori's are worse because of the incredibly clickbaity titles. Will's at least give some insight though they often end up a waste of time for not exploring the actual title subject...

    to get my grid to look like yours i first had to go into preferences>guides & grid> and then change settings to "gridline every 36 px" and make the subdivisions only 4. why not just show what hitting the preferences button looks like...

    I am new to Illustrator, but I am advanced with Photoshop. And yes, there is a difference and just a bit of a learning curve for Illustrator coming from Photoshop.
    You are by far, hands down - the utmost helpful UA-cam Illustrate user that I have found and is incredibly kind to post free tutorials, tips & tricks videos.
    Thank you, so so much for all of the amazing videos and tutorials that have taught me incredible amounts of invaluable knowledge.
    Question though, what was your "Grid" setup? Is your Grid setup standard, as in: Gridline every: 72px AND Subdivisions: 8?

    Thanks for this video. Interesting to see different way to develop logos. It would be interesting to now if there are any special considerations to take into account when selecting a grid. Are there any special grids?

    Fun fact: Logitech was founded in Switzerland, in a village called APPLES. (of course, in swiss german we would not pronounce it like the english "apples", but the fact entertained me nontheless)

    Great job thank you!! 👏 What are your grid preferences set to??? My gridline is set to 72pt and the subdivisions are 8 but they don't look like yours and I want to make sure I am following this properly 🤓

      Just split it by 2. Go to the Edit -> Preferences -> Guides and grid, and there u should have Gridline every 36 px and subdivisions 4

    Thanks for the lesson - Awesome strategy! I have one issue though, I can't seem to work out when creating the grid. I thought my custom preferences were the culprit, but I reset them all to default and the problem still remains! Your vertical lines are perfectly centered in the circles horizontally and vertically AND you have a border all the way around. But MY grid always comes out a half of a box off. So I have to choose between centered in the circles OR have a border all the way around. I can't have both. What on earth am I doing wrong?

      I read comments below and got answer to your and my problem with grid: go into preferences>guides & grid> and then change settings to "gridline every 36 px" and make the subdivisions only 4 :)

      also note that for the first circle he uses 4 "retangles" (1 retangle = 4 subdivisions), while the next ones he just spaces one retangle at a time. I was having the same issue here

    Great video! Just note that when you shrank the icon, your stroke size didn't scale down with it (can be changed in preferences). Good video though for anyone creating logo/symbols :-)

    I'm wondering why my grid looks different from yours. I also have Illustrator 2020 and I have my document set to 1000 px by 1000 px. When I go to View and click Show Grid, I get a grid, bur the squares are bigger than the ones on your document. You have about 28 larger squares across the top of your document, each larger square has 16 little squares within it. I have 14 larger squares across the top of my document, and each of my larger squares has 64 smaller squares within it. Is there a way to adjust the grid settings?

      There is a way to adjust the grid. Go to "edit" - "preferences" and then "grids and guides".
