I like this setup the best of all that you have demonstrated to date. I am not a Saddle Hunter. I am, however, fascinated with the concept which is why I watch your channel.
Love a climbing platform, with a saddle & tree stand safety system. I use the LWCG climber with your tree stand safety system, can't believe I ever hunted without it now.
A few years ago the big benefit every saddle hunter would tell you is “you can get in any tree, you don’t need telephone poles like the antiquated climber stand” fast forward 2 years and now they’re just using climber platforms in straight trees with less comfort.
😂 Scott nice review I purchased ur saddle safety system and I also purchased the lean ascent a few months ago I was going to make a video this week to send to osprey outdoors to show them how I use it with your system . Good people at osprey outdoors glad they teamed up with you!! Guess there’s no need to make that video now lol
@@NYSaddleHunter hi NY saddlehunter I was just wondering approximately how long does it take to get the climber attached to the base of the tree when you arrive at your hunting tree?
@@houseatreides6683 under a minute. But if you never have used a climber before. You have to take the taper of the tree into account so your platform is somewhat level at hunting height . Practice setting up on a few different diameter trees to get the starting angle right
I bought a broadside stands mk2. Mainly because I feel I could easily replace the ‘tree cord’ and hitches if/when they wear out. And 2, because after review of my elevated hunting sets I’ve been successful at, 60-70% of those trees could have been climbed with that device/style, and the rest it still could be used in with an aider and/or just going around a few branches with it as well as be used as a GIANT standalone platform when SRT presets are what I’m hunting. I also like the size of it, and the angles seem good.
Thanks for sharing, Scott! It always looks like your Dancing in the air, Peter Pan style! Will you be showing your 2TC climbing moves? Thanks again, have a great day!
@@SteveMcQueen-bx4hu Thanks Steve, 2 TC is not my go to . But I’m sure I could put something together. I’m breaking tradition a little this season and so far I’m really liking the switch. I’ve started using a one stick as my primary platform. And will be dropping a video showing why I think it’s superior for me .
@@jasonwatson2679 Jason I played around with it myself and yes it does work in that position. This platform can also be used with a ring of steps that Osprey Outdoors makes as well and is easily attached with the eyebolt in the lower hole .
Do you think with an aider it can be taken off and put back on, as if one sticking? For branches. This way is easier in my experience (with half a full climber) than one sticking, but those dang branches.
@@drucifuh honestly I don’t see how that would work and still be safe ! I would stick to One sticking or if you climb a lot of trees with branches . Buy a half line system and be done with it. You’ll easily navigate branches plus you’re never safer than being on a zero slack system. I did this review for hunters who primarily use climbing tree stands . Think of this as another tool that will fit in certain scenarios. No one tool is perfect for every job . My half-line systems have their place as do climbers , one sticks , lock ons with steps. No matter how you climb just do it safely and methodically.
@@NYSaddleHunter ah man, i meant to say with the halfline system. Basically one sticking with it. But honestly if you’re using the half line system - you can do anything you want to climb I guess.
@@drucifuh definitely, you can do any discipline with the half-line . It really works to a hunters advantage if your one sticking and get out at noon and plan to go back in and leave your entire setup in the tree to return for the afternoon or in early am . @@LibertyOrDeath7230 it actually doesn’t interfere with camming . One the strap is in place it only involves the hunter to simply sit into your saddle and with your feet out of the stirrups place one foot under the front of platform the other on top and slightly lift and push down to cam over
I was using the seat to a lone wolf hand climber in this exact way (except i just used a short tether) for a few years until the aluminum cracked on me. Inwas irritated that they arent made any more bht this seems like a direct replacement. It was a fast, lightweight way up and down the tree as it barely added any more weight than a platform. The only downside is you are restricted to the same trees that you'd use a climber on. (Right diamater, no branches etc.) I love my halfline so i dont think I'll go back, but not having to have preset loops was nice in some areas.
Looks like they just cut a summit stand in half. The cable system looks like a summit stand. I use the bottom half of a summit climber and use a ring of steps above the climber. I also use the half line system i got from scott last year.
@@billmcdowell4826 yes , cable is the same but the Alpha cams tight to the tree eliminating the need for a ratchet strap like you would need for a full size platform.
