My Beat is the most fun I've had in any car. It is _exactly_ what Honda would make if they turned one of their late '70's Honda 750s, into a car. If that isn't your thing, you won't feel how great these cars are.
For the AC, in Japan people just converter them into Eletric motor AC compressor. Compressor was mount in front trunk It help weight distribution. But it will only run 50% for the stock alternator. Need a 80amp plus alternator to make it working fully
You seem to have pointed out every common issue. Nice work! I'll add a couple of rusty areas to look out for: front strut towers, rear wheel arches, rocker panels, and the rear piece of structure connecting the 2 rear strut towers.
great vid! you pretty much covered everything that was wrong with my beat - I wish I had seen this before buying it! Thankfully they're all easy enough to fix with a bit of time and money, and you're right that the value for money for these is amazing :)
Great video. Had mine in the UK for over 12 years. Honda mechanic mate was surprised how many parts Honda make for it. My Gathers head unit is stunning. Standard spec had front/rear wheels 1 inch difference. Had 4 new tyres fitted at home and the company thought I'd wrongly ordered. They'd never seen one before so took plenty of pics. Once in a garage somebody asked if it was a car! Easily more sophisticated than his I reckon especially having a/c in '91. Love mine and waiting for an S660 arriving from Japan in January. In the meantime....... Somebody told me "every day's a top down day" and a true sports car is one that you can flatten your hand on the road when you're sitting in the driver's seat. No problem in a Beat.
Great video David, certainly covers most of the important bits of what to look for, what to spend on and what to expect in ownership. I've now got 2 Beats..... so I will probably have to weigh up both and sell one of them in the near future. If anybody is interested (in the UK), get in touch.
Going to miss these videos on the beat, it's been good to follow your journey with it. I can definitely agree with you about the smiles per mile, it just makes me beam 😁 ever time I get in mine. Hope you are not going to regret letting it go. 👍
GREAT video, thank you. 2 questions for you sir: 1 if you love it more than any other car, why are you selling it and what's replacing it? 2, I am 6'2" 180lbs. I am getting mixed feedback on whether or not I'll fit...would love to hear your thoughts. Might test drive one next week but it's a couple hours away so I'm not quite ready to commit.
1. I enjoy the build more than the drive, and my Beat was too pristine to do any crazy mods to, so I moved it on to take on another project that I wouldn't be so precious about. To find out what I replaced it with, you'll have to watch my latest videos (and subscribe) 😉 2. It's not just about your height, but your proportions. ie. Do you have tall legs or a tall torso? I'm 6ft and had plenty of room, about the same as a mk1 MX5. 2 hours is really close for a car as rare as a Beat... Just go see it, you've nothing to lose!
The car I was interested in won't work unfortunately, so I'm kind of back to the drawing board. Not many kei cars here in Ireland so not really an option.
I've never heard of mileage that high for a Beat, but they are generally reliable. A few weak points, like the distributor and ECU, but most issues are fixable.
You can import one from Japan, but there seems to be quite a few already in the US, so that would probably be easier. I'd suggest posting up a wanted ad in the Facebook group called "Honda Beat PP1 US Owners Club & Friends". There's normally a couple for sale there.
Hi there, with the leaky capacitor issue, would this cause the car to struggle to idle whilst warm, the car only idles by fluctuating the throttle. Is this the start of the capacitor issue. If so is this an expensive job or can it be done at home in a weekend? Cheers
The Cappuccino on paper is better in every way, but I've owned both and preferred the Beat. You can't go wrong with either really, but be very careful when choosing a Cappo as they LOVE to rust.
Similar interior space and driving experience. Miata much better at motorway/highway speeds obviously, so is a better all rounder, but for a blast around some twisty roads the Beat is more fun - the engine noise is amazing. Miata easier to get parts (both OEM & aftermarket).

Perfectly summed up. I couldn't bring myself to sell it in the end.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the info 👍🏻
Thanks for the shout out. We were happy to help you out.
I just ran into this video by accident.
Good luck on the resale!
No longer for sale. I'm keeping it!

Oooooohh! Would love an S660! ❤️
S660 = dream car. And a Copen with the power-retractable top...on a _Kei_ car.
Jazda, this is an excellent video. I'm a beat owner down south and this has been extremely informative. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!

Onwards and upwards. I rarely look back. Variety is the spice of life and all that.
Great set of project videos with this car. Best of luck with selling it. Might be interested if it's not gone already!
The new car didn't work out so there's been a change of plans and I'm keeping the Beat 😍
Great video. You covered most of the big points!!! SAD TO SEE YOU GO BROTHER.
I didn't end up selling it in the end!
Great video! I’ve really enjoyed your series on the Beat. Thanks so much and good luck with your new car! 👍
Don't know why but you seem to have most cars I'm interested despite they're all quite rare!
Kindred spirits 😂

Interesting video and a good summary of the Beat 👍 what’s next - Another Kei?

Can you link where you source japanese parts? I been using impex but always on the lookout for more options.
EtsuRyu is a good place to start
Honda Beat is one of my dream car... But anyway, can you explain why some of the Beat have Black Cluster meter? Most of them are white isn't it?
There is a special edition version of the Beat that has black gauges. I think it was a later version. Most are white.
@@Jazda thanks for the information
How many kilometers can these go? There's a cheap one for sale near me but it has 171k on it

Well done.
Would you create a website for parts and other stuff for this car
Not sure what you mean... for selling parts? I sold the car recently 😔
im 17 and im going to start looking for a car soon, i want to get a 91 beat but i live in Missouri. how could i get one?

Idle issues can often be the ECU, distributor or timing. Best off posting on the Beat Facebook groups asking for help.
Hey - loving your series on the beat. cheers!
Should i get a honda beat or a suzuki cappuccino?
The Cappuccino on paper is better in every way, but I've owned both and preferred the Beat. You can't go wrong with either really, but be very careful when choosing a Cappo as they LOVE to rust.
how are they compared to a mazda miata?

i had an opportunity to buy one last week, but it got sold at a slender price of 7840$ CAD. it looked clean as hell. im really regretting it. @@Jazda
Did you sell this already
Decided to keep it in the end. Didn't buy the GT86.
H O N D A
POWERFULL
HIGH TECH
THE BEST
Honda beat or suzuki cappuccino?
If you're looking for speed, Cappuccino. If you're looking for fun, Beat. I've owned both. Beat is my favourite.
Why would you not just retrofit the A/C to R1234? It's cheap and easy.
Because I live in Ireland and I only even drive it with the top down 😉
Nice beat, currently selling 3 of them. 😊👍
How much? Website with the pictures? I'm interested
