When my dad passed away, my mother heard this song and connected it with his passing. It is a song about a woman asking the moon to help her find her true love and tell him to please return to her. My parents eloped at 16 years of age and were together 61 years. I would play this song for her and she would cry for him. I would cry with her. She passed away last year and now I play it for myself and think of them and cry.
Wow. What a sad and yet beautiful story. Your parents were blessed to have had each other and you were blessed to have parents that loved each other that way. May they RIP.
She dedicates this song to our loved ones in heaven in her concerts. She has us turn on our lights on our phone so they can see us from heaven. I lost my dad to covid and I cried 😢
I've been watching this reaction many times because I love the performance and his reaction, but I also always read your story, and I end with tears in my eyes. Beautiful story and song to remember them.❤️
my mom dedicated me this song when i was in the military so every night that i would see the moon , i would know she was with me and me with her. shes basically asking the moon to text her loved one lol. and to light his path if he is caught in darkness since you the moon are familiar with lonliness.
As you have realized how our culture sings with so much breadth, depth, passion, and soul. It transcends your existence to another realm. Thank you for sharing.
Her raspy voice is just so so beautiful so potent and her lyrics are amazing I grow up listening these singers every song od them I feel like represent a chapter in my life 😊
Simplemente extraordinaria. Un saludo desde Vitoria España
Me and my wife finally got to see her in concert a couple of weeks ago and I can't describe the experience. I wish I could go back in time and relive that concert. Even at the age of 69, she was absolutely amazing.
I’m very proud to be Mexican woman, I love this song, Juan Gabriel wrote this song and Ana Gabriel is a great singer, the song it’s a poem and the Mariachi music is the way to fell all the sensations.
Ana Gabriel was one of the multiple artists who collaborated with Juan Gabriel, but the best of all, and the one who had the most quantinty and quality of songs written especially for her to sing, was Rocío Dúrcal and when they sang together you couldn't help but shed a tear, their chemistry was magical, i'm going to send you the link of their song "Fue un placer conocerte" , i', going to try to send you one with english subtitles, because Juan Gabriel' lyrics are fenomenal.
Mexico's Ranchera genre is soooo beautiful! ❤ They're transcendental, you're transported with them and you are with them and feel what they feel. I am Mexican and I don't feel any other Mexican genre gets even close to the beauty and depth Rancheras do.
She gives me goose bumps... In my home country of Puerto Rico , we love her. My deceased parents and grandparents loved old Mexican music of the 50's and 60's. I was fortunate to listen to those albums....
I just saw her live this weekend!! Her voice is absolutely insane still!! Amazing reaction, thank you for your reactions. I’m excited to see who you react to next!!
I loved your reaction, you are a sensible man with a big heart, that feels all the emotions from this great and sad song. Ana Gabriel always make me feel in that way ,with her beautiful AND nostalgic voice👏👏
Ana Gabriel has been making me stop and listen ever since 1990, which is when I discovered her, personally. She connects with me every time. Her songs often deal with heartache and sadness, and that emotive quality in her voice just conveys the messages so incredibly well. She literally sounds like she's crying when she sings. Ana is a special, special singer. I adore her. She is easily, hands down, my favorite female Latin artist. My favorite make Latin artists are Luis Miguel, Marc Anthony, and Jose Feliciano.
Now you need to hear Christian Castro is one of the best voices in Mexico and our beloved Juan Gabriel wrote him a beautiful song "Mañana, Mañana" Juan Gabriel himself praised Christian's voice in one of his concerts.
Actually we have been exposed to Mexican music. I watched Juan Gabriel in concert in California in the 89s and The band Heart was from the town where I grew up so thank you for mentioning Heart.❤
I love your reactions because you really connect with the feeling behind the lyrics and music. Ana Gabriel’s voice reflects the sadness and longing for the distanced loved one and, you rightly pointed out, carries what I like to think as the ancestral ethos of Mexico. Please, react to Lila Downs, another Mexican singer with an interesting voice. Her rendition of La llorona is excellent
Juan Gabriel wrote this song for her. She then asked him permission to change it a little as her father had passed away, and she wanted to dedicate it in his memory. Did you know her grandfather was Chinese.
Mr. Boustany, you are my absolute favourite commentator, your curious nature, respect for the artist and obvious love of ALL GOOD music totally demands my respect! I am going to suggest another amazing, gifted and fascinating artist who carved out a hugely successful career based TOTALLY on TALENT. A 60’s artist Roy Orbison, in the vein of another superstar artist Dimash, will guide you on an unprecedented journey of joy and discovery, each song as great as the last!! I promise you a journey of joy, you’ll see!!🙏🙋♀️
This song “Luna”(Moon) was a gifted by Juan Gabriel to her and one of her greatest hits. He said “this song was made for you, it’s to you” he felt only she could give soul to the song. That’s why it’s perfect 1-Juan Gabriel & 2-Her voice Ana Gabriel, both Gabriels haha..
I love to see someone from another part of the world developing a love for Mariachis and the depth of emotion artists like her and Juan Gabriel bring to it. I grew up listening to this stuff all the time and I feel it's such a shame that Latin American music hasn't spread further because it really is just beautiful to listen to.
I'm glad you like Ana Gabriel, and her style of singing. I really would like for you to listen to, and react to another great singer her name is Lila Downs, the song is La Llorona. Thank you

The actual storyline was that they wanted to make a song together but there was no schedule for both yet therefore they started to make their own version of the song and lucky enough they both concentrate on the moon as a subject to direct the song. But this very moment one call to the other on the phone and realized how connected were both already on this project. Awesome story

She adopted the name Gabriel, yes because of her admiration for Juanga and this song Luna was written by Juan Gabriel as a gift to Ana.

If you are curious about the lyrics, here's my translation:
Moon, you that can see him
Tell him how much I love him
Moon, you that can see him
Tell him how much I miss him
This night I know that he is
Contemplating you, just as I am too
Through you I want to give him a kiss
You that knows about loneliness
Advise him, please
That he comes back, convince him
I beg you
Moon, you that can see him
Tell him, how much I suffer
Moon, and tell him to come back
Because it's already too much
You that knows where he is
Caress him with my love
Tell him that he is the one I love the most
You that knows where he goes
Illuminate with your light his path
Because it might not be good
It might not be good
And tell him that
I love him
Great reaction to a great song!
