  • Let’s follow Bianca’s lead for a walking tour of the newest educational & field trip venues going beyond the classroom model of teaching young children. Education begins at home & we parents recognize that us, not someone else must take the responsibility first to assure that our children are well-educated while at the same time taking time off from the rigors of our work. And what could be better than an excursion with the whole family just chillaxing on a weekend retreat to the new Clark Safari & Adventure Park.
The latest attraction to the Clark Freeport Zone just opened its doors to the public on December 8, 2021 after numerous delays due to COVID-19 pandemic. This is just Phase 1 of the project. The expansive 40-hectares zoo will have more attractions & activities upon completion of the Phase 2 that will include a theme park, zip lines & ATV rides. Currently, it features more than 1,500 live animals & 70 animal species & can accommodate up to 2,500 visitors.
Clark Safari owner Romy Sitchon poured in P135 million worth investments for the development of the zoo. Aside from sightseeing, visitors can enjoy a variety of activities including animal interactions & a live animal show twice a day. Kids can also opt to take photoshoots & ride a pony or horse, feed colorful birds, nurture a tiger cub, play with snakes & put a small crocodile (with mouth taped) on your lap. All these come with separate, additional charges of only P100 each.
The Philippines is not known for famed wildlife sanctuaries. While our zoos have yet to reach the international best standard & are way below Southeast Asian counterparts, new strategies are being done for Philippine zoos to be acceptable to the international zoo community. But there are family-friendly zoos worth visiting for like this Clark Safari. From the parking area, the entrance to the zoo is quite admirable especially for children & pre-schoolers with huge animal statues that they can take IG-worthy photos with. Let the kids be comfortable first before they unlock new discoveries & encounter real, live animals.
Although the statues might still outnumber the real ones (huge beasts like elephants, giraffes even hippopotamus might arrive in Phase 2), there are majestic big cats in Kingdom Panthera like the Bengal tigers, white lions, ligers, spotted leopards, jaguars, hyenas, wolves & servals. The reptile kingdom features lots of iguanas, turtles, snakes & crocodiles. Then, there are mammals like bears, baboons, Patas monkeys, foxes, black-backed jackals, macaques & deer. The birds are quite well-represented, too with serpent eagles, honey buzzard, macaws, parrots & cockatoos.
An interesting Taal Rescue Horses, those affected stables rescued from Taal Volcano eruption in January 2020 consisting of adorbs ponies & horses - is a major attraction here. For P100 fees, your kids can take their perfect equine photography shoots & you can go horseback-riding, too for PhP399. Experience the joy of connection & the warmth of furry friendships when you bond with the adorable residents of Rin’s Petting Zoo like goat, sheep, donkeys, fowls, chicken, koi fishes, ponies & rabbits. Get their snacks & feed them with laughter, love & affection.
The Clark Safari, located in No. 67 Jose Abad Santos Avenue, Clark, Freeport, Mabalacat, Pampanga, is open daily to all visitors regardless of age from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM including Holidays. As of this writing, entrance fee for adults is P599 & P499 for kids. Kids below 3 feet are free of charge while senior citizens & persons with disabilities get 20% discount. A tram ride which can accommodate 13-15 persons, however, charges a ridiculous P4,500 per trip.
