  • Last night in Brussels, I had the huge honour of performing on the Roland TD-50 on #909day a 24 hour stream aired all around the world. It was absolutely nerve racking and one of the most intense and high pressure situations I've ever been in in a studio, when its your turn you get one take and that's your lot, good bad or ugly! I was still learning the track on my way over to Belgium,(written for me by the brilliant Alex Hutchings) and it wasn't a simple play. I could really feel the pressure just as they were coming to my part of the broadcast, nothing I could do apart from take a deep breath and see what came out, I didn't have a plan of how I was going to play it, but excuses aside I'm happy, you can probably see the relief on my face at the end!! It's been a blur these past few weeks with so many tracks in my head for many different people, but I wouldn't change a thing. I'd be delighted if you shared it, Please click the HD Button and crank it up #TD50

    Well...….that settles it for me. The Craig Blundell/Gavin Harrison comparisons made by many heart broken Porcupine Tree fans is settled. Both on a different level. Both ridiculously gifted. Just different styles. That's what makes them ARTISTS. Unique artists for sure. At the top of the pile with the best. This was an incredible display of complex drumming and spirit. Just wow.

    02:41 is insane. This is inspiring.
    04:34 does a one handed roll and the camera zooms onto something else.

    OK, it's an expensive kit, but Roland have clearly put a lot of money into it's development and I guess they just want to get a good payback. Can't knock a company for having a really strong marketing plan !

    Yep Roland have pushed the bar up again a few years after pushing it before, and before that. But sadly only the 1% of the 1% will be able to afford one of these. The list I saw on this was €8000 I personally wouldn't even be able to spend that on a car! Maybe the td30 will come down in price. Set one of these up for a friend a few weeks back and it's an awesome piece of kit.

    • @steevidrums
      @steevidrums 8 років тому

      ah sadly still out of my reach with work being thin on the ground! I have a 2box drumit 5 and it does me just fine for now. Plays well enough and no shortage of awesome sounds (and more you can import/make yourself) Not perfect, but like I say, does me fine.

      if you have the pads then just get the modeule then

    • @steevidrums
      @steevidrums 8 років тому

      I don't have the pads, I have a 2box kit, works great! No lack of great sounds and can always put my own on it. Doesn't have the bells and whistles of the top roland and some of the lesser ones, but if you start with a great set of sounds you don't really feel the urge to want to edit them to make them great, if you know what I mean.

    How different does the TD-50 feel when you're playing compared to an Acoustic set? Especially the snare, because I know all the nuances you can get on an acoustic snare - is it really almost the same as playing an acoustic set when it comes to feel and response?

    Hey Graig, (this is a long one) but could anyone @ roland explain why they don’t use gold polyurethane pigments within the moulding process of the rubber hood for cymbals?
    i own black,gun metal grey & silver roland cymbals, but if they could be gold’ish in colour that would have been awesome

    Great work as always craig. People are saying there is still machine gun effect at higher speeds. What do you think? At this price point I need it all to happen "in the box"...powerful vst, humanizing of tonality, everything that I would normally just midi into a bfd box for. How "real" can we configure the trigger settings? Also when is this coming out?

    Am I seeing a different video to everyone else? This is really sloppy, almost none of the fills are actually tight or timed well, it just sounds like he's squeezing in as many notes as possible and then trying to return to the groove but failing.

    • @subwoofer6726
      @subwoofer6726 8 років тому

      I noticed that too...I can tell from just the video there is a pretentious attitude of an aura that is floating around the room from those guys. Since they are being filmed, it's like they are trying to act all serious an analytical like they're part of the action or cool for head bobbing like "Yeah I know how to feel the beat look at me!!" lol. Opposed to the guys with their arms down chilled and relaxed just enjoying the demonstration.
