It's crazy how a simple scene ended up creating one of the most controversial rap songs ever

@@carlodurant87 Controversial doesn't mean it's bad, but in this case the song they sampled from this clip would be considered too obscene that their state tried to ban their entire album.

I was on this part of the shoot, ALL of the "Vietnam" scenes were actually shot in the Philippines 🇵🇭. This was shot in Metro Manila at a place called Quezon city . they pretty much gave up on the Philippine police trying to keep the local traffic out of the scenery so they said the hell with it and pull the barriers down and most of the people never noticed the camera crew in the corner. They had a crew of local sign painters go over a lot of photography from Saigon and replicate some of the most famous advertisements from the time of the actual Vietnam action, the most famous of all was supposed to be Louis Armstrong doing a toothpaste commercial but unfortunately it look like some kind of cartoon character. The number 33 what is the most popular beer in Vietnam at the time and they did a great job on everything, all of the signage all of the painting came to a grand total of $200! Little did they know how Hollywood worked they could've added a couple of zeros to the end of it nobody would've cared. The actress who did the whore what is an Asian girl from Anaheim California, she was a seasoned actress and had her SAG card and all of the other union cards. She was supposed to say A different line but she ad lived this one perfectly. we started this shoot about 8 AM and it took all frigging day and the heat was unbearable. There were people walking into the set and the security they hired decided to get into the movie somehow or another and be seen and it caused a lot of problems. so much of that movie was never Seen, once the editing got underway. All of the combat scenes were done in Mindanao because the bamboo and the landscaping there is absolutely 100% accurate to Vietnam and the pilots they used were all Vietnam veterans.

I watched the background on this scene and it is amazing how they got the cars and motorbikes to roll past perfectly. I was in Vietnam when they filmed the movie Quiet American. The scene was the bombining in front of the Opera house and I walked by during a break in the filming and all the extras that were amputees for the scene were naping in the shade right on the side walk. They all had their bloody prop clothes on and it looked so real but I did not have a camera with me to take the money shot.

@@seaturtledog Renault dolphins is the name of those a little cars, most of the other cars were French Peugeot models that were very common in Vietnam. In fact the vendor that supplied all of these vehicles picked them up in Saigon which was about a one hour flight from Manila but they all came over on a ship to the port of Manila and were trucked to our location.there was a big shit storm with the corrupt customs of the Philippines wanting to charge all kinds of ridiculous duty on these temporary residences, The producers put up a one time bond on all of them . And it was supposed to be totally refunded when they left the country. I know every one of them did leave the country because after the shoot was over they were inventoried and trucked back to the port. it would've been simpler to hire a bunch of drivers to drive them through Manila to the port but none of them would've arrived because they would've been stolen along the way. Theft was absolutely insane and we had two layers of security to cover everything we had. The traffic in that circle was all hired drivers because the local traffic had been cut off after they give up on just allowing the normal drivers to come through that circle in Quezon City. Oh my God it was so freaking hot that day that week actually cause it took about three days to get that scene perfect 👌 The Director was yelling about how much flack we're going to take from the Asian women of the world over stereotyping. on every location shoot you do you must have catering. The catering we had was unavailable, Filipinos are very used to eating room temperature food, thank God for McDonald's and Jollibee .

@@daveshondel5108 I agree that the line " me love you long time" gets old when it is joked about. There was a bar in Saigon not too long ago called the Monkey Bar. When you walked past the place the door would suddenly pop open and a couple girls would yell "Hello Handsome".

that's an actual copy of a toothpaste commercial that was very popular in Vietnam. The guy was supposed to be Louis Armstrong without actually seeing what Louis Armstrong looked like. We had a lot of pictures from Saigon that were taken during the war and return them over to the local Filipino artist and this is what we got. Those guys were the best! they put up the backboard and then had all the sheets of wallpaper looking copy and they would go up on a ladder and one by one they would paste them to the sign and it will be like putting a puzzle together I don't know how they knew white was white but they did it in perfect order. The number 33 was the popular beer in Vietnam called tiger beer. This was actually in the Philippines and we wanted to make this part as accurate as we could because so much of the Philippines mirrors Saigon.

She was from Westminster California, I got to know her somewhat. he has more credentials than anybody else pretty much because she has done a lot of work in Hollywood. They had tried a few other actresses but she got the accent down perfectly. The problem is when they were doing the run through, Everybody busted out laughing! And that was wasting time and that was wasting a lot of money. there was probably eight or 10 different angles that were shot but they decided on having her walk past the camera on the right side and directly up to the actors with her lines. The fuckie fuckie suckie suckie part of her monologue caused everybody to go nuts including her, and the Director had a fit of rage until everyone got their shit together. and got the scene down. every time I see this part I remember we all got the shits from the horrible catering of lukewarm food that was supplied by a Filipino restaurant. We revolted and they hired a chef from the Hyatt to cook all of the meals and bring them and then have these butane steam tables set up to keep everything sanitary. But when they did the jungle scenes down in Mindanao they use nothing but boxed lunches that could withstand tropical heat.
