That is the only drawback I see with Kubota is they don't have much lugging power. Once the rpms start to drop, it goes down fast. Other than that, they are great. After 12 years, I had to replace the water pump. First repair in 22 years.
Thanks Dan for your truthful walk round your Kubota. We looked at one just like yours but never bought it, we had a demo and it wasn't doing what we wanted it to do. The Loader didn't lift the way we wanted it to. Great video Dan thanks again
I can see Dan having to struggle with a lack of loader power could soon get annoying thanks for a honest review the thumps down must be from loyal Kubota owners 😂
We run 5 on 1500 acres of hay and the kubotas do great on every thing we throw at them steep hills rough rocky ground you name it we have been on it most of his issues I don't understand like the pto nonsense doesn't exist here so not a problem for me
May be a late comment I'm sure but in my opinion it's all down to cost of buying the tractor to do what you want it to do and the other which I think is more important for any livestock farmers is dealer reliably of any emergency call outs, I drive my neighbour's yr 2006 John Deere 5620 and loader which was bought used in 2013 with 403hrs and despit been assured it can lift a tonne at full height it can only just, not impressed with the tractor especially when called out six times in a three month period but they come when need asap, good honest review Dan.👍
The de-clutch button takes oil from the back end which is why it takes so long. We also moved the Rev restriction from 6th to 5th and it did 62kph in 6th gear flat out😂
@@bigsnibes8604 hi not sure why people don’t reply to questions asked ,but like you I’m curious about how this is done , I imagine there is are switches on the gearbox this tells the limiter what gear you are in so by switching the 5th with the 6th switch , then the restriction is now on the 5th gear ,so allowing the 6th gear to rev up to 2600 rpm ,so being able to go faster , I cant see this damaging the engine as it’s always being limited to 2600 rpm by the limiter the only difference is you can go quicker, and anyone driving a tractor knows that’s a positive, but just be mindful the tractor wasn’t designed to do more than 40kph , hope this may help
@@gingerninja7187 thanks very much the reply and helpful info! I'm no so keen to be travelling much over 50 on a good road, especially not around the Lake District. As you can imagine though, all these hills and fells take a fair bit of power, the machine dies off at the slightest incline in 6th, but has more to give in 5th, hopefully letting her sing in 6th will do the job. Will investigate further and hopefully get back to you!
A very honest and in depth review, can't remember the model number of one I drove but yeh it had its faults but not lack of front loader capacity, it was only a 40k and that was at 2500 rpm, good video 👍👍
I am glad you made a very honest video. I just bought an M5n-091 narrow version. Fair bit seems to have changed, ours is far more comfortable than the deere we traded in and the lift in the front on it actually seems like more than what yours is which is bizzare since it's a narrow. Hydraulic loader attach would be amazing but I have never seen in on any tractor, even a little linear actuator to pull the level would be great honestly. We bought a tractor years ago which was a new holland, standard model that we got on a deal, may have been the yard model I'm not sure, you always seem to get a lesser tractor when you go for a budget option.
Good honest review Dan. Sounds like there are more minuses than pluses there, but at the time a cheap loader tractor was required to carry out everyday tasks which it does but is on the limit by the sound of it. Its a pity the Massey dealer didn't help you out , they missed a trick there!!!!
Is it a chassis tractor or semi on the front end? Would explain the loader brackets only using 6 bolts. No need for the axle brackets as the engine block not taking the load.
We bought a 90hp Kubota tractor about 15 years ago for work (not farming it was forestry/Grounds maintenance) All I would say is that it was OK, the cab was very small and the gear change was crude. It was difficult to get in and out of the cab. We had a Quickie loader (Q30 I think), that was the best thing about it. I wouldn't want another. The thing is Kubota make excellent diggers and ride on mowers perhaps they should stick to that. Just out of interest why didn't you go for a telehandler I would have thought with the amount of loader work you do it would be a justifiable alternative?
You really should have a backup for critical machinery like the loader tractor. An existing second tractor with brackets and valves on ready to swap the boom would do. Probably not a Kubota.
Hi, a good review, thanks for the concise presentation. I am sure it's pressure , not flow that affects the lifting ability, is the relief valve set at the correct figure?
Think that massey dealer need to sort that most will offer a tractor if they can't repair 😬thanks for the review sound like it has more bad points than good 👍
M5 series is based on the M5 narrow series. It's is for use one soft grounds like planting vegetables and sport fields. That is why the are build light weight and they have low lift capacity. The dealer sold you the wrong tractor. If you compare a Kubota to your MF, you want to buy a M6. This tractor will override the maximum load of what it is designed for in heavy agriculture work. The Kubota M6 is heavery build, and hase a greater lift capacity and a greater maximum load on the chassis.
The M5 is not designt for heavy agriculture in europe. Kubota just started in europe, that is why the offer a few models. So the mean focus is on Japan en USA. Over there the work with this kind of tractor is not as heavy as we in europe do with our tractors. ua-cam.com/video/EUzA1rY-F14/v-deo.html This is the m6s 111, it's 800 KG heavery build as this m5-111, that would had been better for your needs. It's a cheaper M6. Like a hybrid between the M5 and M6.
Good review Dan Don't see many kubota tractors around.what do you think of the Massey ferguson global range as a replacement in the future? Would be equivalent to the kubota ?
You had better take your loader back for a refund. My M5-111 has the same L1854 loader and it has a 2 ton lift capacity, 3990 or 4144 respectively depending on which pin setting I select. And as for my 6th gear while pulling...my M5 pulls through every gear including 6th. I guess they weren’t making them for your country like they were for the USA? I work mine like a dog nearly every day and love it!
My 2005 Kubota Me9000 has 540 and 1000 speed on the shaft doesn’t fall back in 6th gear. Has double the oil flow of my 390T which would be the same as ur 4345. She has a handle to move the lift on the mudguard at the back. And it hardly uses any diesel. Unreal power in it
I’d also have to recommend them, we had a 4345 for 15 years when it went. Only changed it for something slightly bigger and need a rear facing seat but in all the time we had it she only had a clutch (dry clutch) a radiator, a starter and few other minor bits and bobs.
Floor area not exactly being kept very tidy in the Kubota though. All other farmers seem to focus on keeping the cab as tidy as possible and the mud on the outside.
Hi ,I would assume with this tractor, kubota realised that on the road in 6th gear if the engine would still rev at 2600 rpm then it would be capable of doing more than 40 kph, I see a short clip on UA-cam that someone has found away of removing the limiter in 6th gear and shown to be doing 51 kph , personally it’s a pretty basic tractor, it has a crap style gear box ,when in 6th gear it’s gutless, no lift arm controls on the rear mud guards, it’s almost like kubota have gone backwards with the m5 range 👎🏿🚜
Very good thorough review Dan. What do you think of that loader joystick. Doesn’t look very user friendly. Also you could surely alter the revs for 6th gear. Calibration maybe ?
Loader joystick is better than it looks, low effort required. Not sure about the calibration, you would need a dealer willing to do it. I'm sure it would put the tractor near 50k territory with the regulation that brings.
All you did was criticise the whole machine , I realise you needed a gap filler but you should have stuck with what you were comfortable with , it seems like it was meant for a bit of light mowing with the local council

If you put the bolts on the loader cylinders into the lower position you increase the lift capacity but reduce the lift height. Maybe worth a try.
Yes, but we can't afford to lose the lift height for loading the mixer wagon.
