Polish Jaskier (Zamachowski) may not be handsome playboy, but he is funny, and charismatic with nearly Austin mojo. Plus he perfectly showed character of polish sarmatians class.
I've actually always liked that they cast Zamachowski, because he even fits The Witcher's frequent subversion of "hero narrative" clichés. Geralt's not living a pleasant life, despite how some might consider his profession or abilities "cool", and similarly, Jaskier doesn't need to be a typically handsome man to be a capable troubadour. It's in line with Sapkowski's style of humour.

She was a TERRIBLE child actress though, to an extent that calling her an actress of any kind is a misnomer. But visually yes indeed. Plus she's the right age ofc.

The 2002 version is better when it comes to the casting, as well as the atmosphere and storytelling. I wish they could refresh it a little bit, add EN subtitles and make it more available to watch for everyone.
Aside from Geralt and Stregebor, of which I prefer their 2019 counterparts, the 2002 Polish series did a far better job of casting and mostly stayed true to the books.

Visually they looked the part (as 2002 adaptation was tremendously faithful to the original) but some were bad or just flat out terrible with acting skills vide Ciri child actress. In netflix version it's the opposite- acting is not great but more even & competent but most actors don't look the part at all due to modern compulsory woke diversity quota filling
Polish version had at least geography, good acting, was according to books and Yen was Yen. Low budget was not on the way to respect viewers and source material
The Polish TV series was created with more love for books and more respect for fans than an American shit product. The monsters may look worse, but for 2002 and for a small budget, they look fine. The authors of the Polish series have slightly changed the plot, but compared to Netflix's shit, this is a divine series. And most importantly, you see the story of the witcher, and not a story "strong independent women"
You people are delusional, if your bitching about character design its taken from the games because its easier to use a reference to make characters and makes more sense seen as the games are vastly more popular as unfair as it may be its the truth , the show follows the books but implements certain things from the games , if you think the shows bad because it isnt a carbon copy of the original then dont watch it . Stop unjustly bitching about a show because your twisted it isnt just following the books.
You're missing the point and here is why. Stupid Netflix product doesn't follow anything. It takes book plot and mixing 3 different timelines. Some actors doesn't look or behavior like characters described very similar both in books and games. And how can you say character design looks like in games dude? Have you saw Triss? Lambert? For this last one I've got full respect for play but why the hell these people goes to cast for certain characters if they know they're nothing like them in appearance? As a fan I want at least see actors who reminds of ones I imagined reading the book or playing the games. These in netflix are just some randoms.
Lack of comparison of Calanthe covered in elven blood vs other weakens differences. In books she was brave, cold-minded royal with tendencies to battle fervor but what royal could not change his/her suit between battle on end of kingdom and VERY IMPORTANT feast at capital? Jaskier/Dondallion differences are powerfull in relation with witcher. In books and Polish series he is old friend of Geralt and his songs are more ballads than commercial tunes. Search "Zapachniało powiewem jesieni" - ballad of three seasons: autumn, winter and spring, Or "cztery rady Jaskra" - "Four advices of Jaskier", commenting the story. For example: "This night you wont see stars cause Cintra is burning It'll burn and show the world world which is dying. Like hoard od black ravens still enemies raiding. You flew but destiny yours realizes in yourself"
It's never lived up to the hype beyond its first episode. It set an extremely strong precedent and has floundered ever since. Absolutely doesn't help that Netflix has abandoned the source material and is just doing its own thing. Season 2 the worst offender by far.
Definitely polish cast had more to do with books. Yes, Yennefer is exactly what she should be - a bit older, she wasn't 20 and didn't look it, dignified and with class. Also the relationship between her and Geralt is somehow easier to look at. Not to mention Ciri is actually 9 yrs old and driads are green, like they should have been.
Polish version of Jennifer was spot on and very close to source material. Same with Ciri. I have no clue why Netflix showrunner used adult actress to play a child and adult version as well. Netflix wasted so much potential.
2:40 Correction: Renfri was actually played by Kinga Ilgner in The Hexer. Weronika Pelczynska took some part in one episode as Renfri in her youth. But the actress in the video is Kinga Ilgner.
I would disagree, as the Polish version the cast are older than the new series and Geralt is way better looking and can move the way we want the Witcher to move esp in fight scenes.
Do you all know that there is fan polish film in witcher universe focusing on Lambert? I haven't watched it yet. But soundtrack is sooo fricking good It's called "Alzur's Legacy" in English and "Pół wieku poezji" in Polish

If Hexer had the same money as The Witcher, it would have been a better production. Well, when you're shooting fantasy, you have to put more than production zeal into it. But honestly, Geralt was great. Jaskier, too. And the scene where Geralt meets Ciri again in the Polish version was really beautiful and touching. Although to the curious I recommend the series, not the movie.
Well... 2000s were harsh time for Poland. You know changing system from central planned to free market in 90s' wasn't easy. It caused lots of poverty followed by waves of crimes. I guess we could not afford a better production not only because of that but also because fantasy (not SF but fantasy!) wasn't a very popular genre back then.
@@karolinakuc4783 Our film industry still sucks, even more than in 2000's, 90's or communist times. I like the old Polish version better. The atmosphere is somehow different more sorrow not just dark. Geralt gathers world experience of good and evil, of the foul human nature. He is not just some badass marvel hero, he makes mistakes, he is confused, he questions himself. And the acting is way better. Michal Zebrowski is and forever be the one and only Geralt. I also liked the training phase when he was growing up. But of course I will watch the Netflix version as well.

Visually they looked the part (as 2002 adaptation was tremendously faithful to the original) but some were bad or just flat out terrible with acting skills vide Ciri child actress. Stop unjustly bitching about a show because your twisted it isnt just following the books.

For this last one I've got full respect for play but why the hell these people goes to cast for certain characters if they know they're nothing like them in appearance? @@Bodzentynos zdecydowanie
Love Polish version ❤️ they definitely got the core of the book right
I love how both Ciris have no eyebrows.
Kate Bush as Yennefer... Where can I watch this masterpiece?
I like that the girl who play pavetta in Netflix is a swedish Actor
If someone said to me that they are sisters, i would believe
Heck, some of the polish charachters were bangers.
Some characters actually look better in the older version more closer to the books
Henry is the only reason I actually watch it
So you have no reason to watch it now.
Yeah in almost every case the Hexer was WAY better in casting.
Im assuming that Triss and Vigo were not mentioned due to them not appearing until the 3rd book and The Hexer didnt make it that far.
Either way I HATE the Netflix series for fucking up the source material so bad it hurts to watch!
TBH the Polish series used the top actors. Netflix cannot afford such cast.
@@Zuzannaq Yeah they can, they just hate white people. It's run by a Jew working for a Jewish company. What did you expect?
Йенифер образца 2000 года - шикарная.
