The Polish version of the Witcher was characterized by great acting, a very good script and an engaging storyline. Unfortunately, the budget of the series was not high, so the set design and special effects left a lot to be desired. Polish artists did not lack talent, only money. If they had a Netflix budget, the show could be an international success.

"a very good script and an engaging storyline." Let's not exaggerate. In 2002 script was questionable, storyline was closer to original but with some changes. CGI was poor AF but it was a result of Lord of the Rings effects, which those days were remarkable. For the people who watched TV series from 2002, it's an awkward feeling. Average TV series in comparison to netflix series looks like masterpiece. One thing, which is worth to mention. Geralt played by Michał Żebrowski, was almost 1:1 Geralt from the books/games: intelligent - philosopher - grumpy - swordmaster. Andrzej Sapkowski sent a letter to Michał, that he did amazing job with perfectly portrayed Geralt.

TBH fuck him, I've seen so many people swooning over him, and lamenting how he is in terrible position, but the fact is that there were definitely telltales signs of how this show will look like. He, as a theoretical fan of the material he chose to participate, in this dumpster fire. It was not for love for the source but for money. Even now that there is so much evidence how netflix is shitting on the books, one could expect some integrity from a true fan, but what I see is a sellout. This is his choice to be affiliated with company, that for all intend and purpose destroyed the lore of the source material, for current tokens, giving NOTHING of value in return.

I really like how the older version is so much more medieval, greasy hair, little to none lipsticks or heavy makeup, no fancy costume materials, roads and villages full of dirt. The new version is extremely modern, with characters straight from the makeup room, all the clothes ironed 10 seconds before the shot. Geralt even has a fancy tailored black-leather bag for his stuff, which matches his armor, like a wealthy knight. Kind'a takes away plenty of realism.

I'd say more, Żebrowski managed to pull off that philosophical side of Geralt from books, ridden with doubts, at times eloquent but also melancholic. I also like much more how in polish series was portrayed the friendship between Geralt and bard Jaskier/Dandelion, in my opinion even better than in netflix show (not to mention that suprisingly in many places the Hexer in telling the stories from the books was more faithful to them than netfix show, of course Hexer also had it's share of changes and alterations some of which were bad, but actual short stories of the first two tomes were portrayed quite more faithfully than most of them from netflix version).

I've actually always liked that they cast Zamachowski, because he even fits The Witcher's frequent subversion of "hero narrative" clichés. Geralt's not living a pleasant life, despite how some might consider his profession or abilities "cool", and similarly, Jaskier doesn't need to be a typically handsome man to be a capable troubadour. It's in line with Sapkowski's style of humour.

For this last one I've got full respect for play but why the hell these people goes to cast for certain characters if they know they're nothing like them in appearance? Lack of comparison of Calanthe covered in elven blood vs other weakens differences. In books she was brave, cold-minded royal with tendencies to battle fervor but what royal could not change his/her suit between battle on end of kingdom and VERY IMPORTANT feast at capital?
Jaskier/Dondallion differences are powerfull in relation with witcher. In books and Polish series he is old friend of Geralt and his songs are more ballads than commercial tunes.
Search "Zapachniało powiewem jesieni" - ballad of three seasons: autumn, winter and spring, Or "cztery rady Jaskra" - "Four advices of Jaskier", commenting the story. For example:

Nevertheless, despite these millions The Witcher still looks tacky and as Sapkowski's adaptations both remain crap. The Witcher is accepted only by those who don't read books, i.e. some 99% viewers in the West and 50% in Poland and Central Europe.
