South Vietnam was more like West Germany. Very liberal, filled with foreigners, and a place where one can enjoy great nightlife. These videos are before the North Vietnamese invasion of Saigon.
5 minutes of footage from 3 square blocks of a city of its uber rich leaves out the war zone literally 20 miles away where killing and destruction reigned. This footage doesn't show the extreme poverty a few miles away where come the taxi drivers to drive Americans and their vassal collaborators nor their daughters who work in the brothels. A country whose purpose was to serve the needs of the American occupying forces. This is window dressing and a fake CIA funded economy of a fake country.

Hương , Phó Thủ Tướng Trần Thiện Khiêm ..v..v.. thì bổng.. chiếc mày bay thả khói màu với biểu tượng Lá Quốc Kỳ VNCH khói tạo hình màu Vàng với 3 làn khói Đỏ là Lá Cờ Vàng 3 sọc đỏ ! Three groups play excellent song #1-A whiter share of Pale by procol Harum. #2-Don't let me be misunderstood by the Animals, #3-Cara mia by Jay and the Americans this group is friend of mine we are very close friends playing together in cholon city. Play shadows music only just 1965 to 66, and a lot the good song many many good songs. You brought back so many memories to me as I was in the Australian army and spent some time in Saigon in 1970 on guard duty at the Australian hotel which was the accommodation for Australians stationed in Saigon . I did get to do lots of sight seeing and went to the Free world Military assistance headquarters .
Vietnam and its history is extremely complicated. Now at age 62, living among a heavily Vietnamese populous of several generations here in California, and myself having spent a career working throughout Asia-Pac, my observation and experience is that Vietnamese people and culture is challenging to understand at best. I have many long standing Asian friends of many years, from Japan down to SEA and all in between, but no Vietnamese friendships have ever lasted. Not to mention I am usually the only Caucasian in their social circle when one is happening.

Saigon has changed so much but some things like the Rex Hotel and the statue of Trang Hung Dao are still around....and beautiful young women in ao dai.
I'm not on any sides, but I think the old planning and traffic of this city is much better than today because... population explosion and construction delays.
The women are beautiful back then, and dress the way a woman is supposed to. Boy do i wish i could have been born in the 50s so i could live the late 60s early 70s, but Dad just had to wait for this piece of work. Mom said he was a real pistol because I was the son of a gun😅
Went to Vietnam and Saigon a couple of times. It was a great experience. Unfortunately my ex girlfriend and her family turned out to be a bunch of shallow age racists.

You brought back so many memories to me as I was in the Australian army and spent some time in Saigon in 1970 on guard duty at the Australian hotel which was the accommodation for Australians stationed in Saigon . I did get to do lots of sight seeing and went to the Free world Military assistance headquarters .

Vietnam and its history is extremely complicated. Now at age 62, living among a heavily Vietnamese populous of several generations here in California, and myself having spent a career working throughout Asia-Pac, my observation and experience is that Vietnamese people and culture is challenging to understand at best. I have many long standing Asian friends of many years, from Japan down to SEA and all in between, but no Vietnamese friendships have ever lasted. Not to mention I am usually the only Caucasian in their social circle when one is happening.

Weird times I've known many Vietnam veterans over my life and some have talked about it and tried to explain the atmosphere in Saigon if they spent time there

Văn minh lắm nhỉ ….nó dậy người ta biết nói xấu Đồng bào, chia rẽ dân tộc (tới bây giờ vẫn còn)…cái mà Hà Nội “ lạc hậu “ Ko bao giờ làm được. Thấy sợ cái văn minh ấy làm thao. 😢 Sự xa hoa của Sài Gòn Ko đủ để đại diện cho cả Miền nam được. Vì Mỹ nó Ko có đủ tiền để “bao” hết miền nam. 😅
Đó là thành quả giáo dục.
vì nhiều yếu tố...nhập cư..và chính sách “ Tận Thu “ ngân sách...không trao quyền chủ động điều hành...hoặc ban hành cơ chế kích thích phát triển kinh tế trong...4 bức tường...thu phí lòng đường..khai thác thế mạnh văn hoá...để đưa vào đầu tư..??? kêu gọi mấy trăm tấn vàng và mấy chục tỷ Đô La còn nằm trong dân..!!???..và nhờ có Cô Vít China nữa...!! Nên...dung nhan của Sài Gòn.. giờ đây...Loạ hơn xưa..!!??🤪🤪🤣🤣🤣🤪

Saigon has changed so much but some things like the Rex Hotel and the statue of Trang Hung Dao are still around....and beautiful young women in ao dai.

I'm not on any sides, but I think the old planning and traffic of this city is much better than today because... population explosion and construction delays.

The women are beautiful back then, and dress the way a woman is supposed to. Boy do i wish i could have been born in the 50s so i could live the late 60s early 70s, but Dad just had to wait for this piece of work. Mom said he was a real pistol because I was the son of a gun😅

Went to Vietnam and Saigon a couple of times. It was a great experience. Unfortunately my ex girlfriend and her family turned out to be a bunch of shallow age racists.
Before brutal unification of two Vietnams, Saigon was the wealthest city in South East Asia. However, Vietnam is now one of the most impoverished states there. During the first half of 1970`s, Vietnam was a focal point of young Japanese students who were steeped in Communism. They insisted that Socialist North Vietnam should "liberate" South Vietnam from US imperiarists. Many of them are now seventies, and they have been keeping silent about the present situation of unified Vietnam.
It used to be a richer country than now.

When I was there in 68 the streets were all dug up and great mounds of dirt down the middle of almost all streets.
Lots were not paved.

I have pictures of my mom dressing in really nice modern outfits that time, wearing sunglasses too. Communism took the country backward!
