I cannot express how handy it’s been to have a “emergency” car tote. Filled with small bags of chips, sun screen, blankets, clothes, and a jacket. Just for times like that. For a family emergency or need to go someone with no warning. That way you have a small start to what you might need to grab to shave time off getting in the car.
Yes. During the summer I keep our swim stuff in the car for the off chance we will find a fun splash pad to go play in or who knows what. And the swim bag has everything from diapers and hair things to meat sticks and fruit snacks as well.
I have many to-go bags. One for the park/splash pad/beach/pool. One for classes (music/dance) and I have them for work and the gym. It’s SUPER helpful! And a large purse with snacks and bandaids, sensory toys…did I mention I don’t have kids…this is just for me LOL. I have a little nephew and when he says Aunty Mandy let’s go beach I say…let’s go!
The fact that some parents don’t even play with their children and the way you go above and beyond is amazing. You guys are amazing parents.
Preparing for the beach is a manifestation of an anxiety reducer. If we don't have something our kids need/want, we get stressed out. The preparing is fine
Colleen-my husband and I parent differently too, similar to how you and Erik are. A great tip I have learned and love to do is I keep a box of “emergency” stuff in the back of the car for the kids…so extra change of clothes, jackets, blankets, diapers, socks, shoes, a few toys and even some snacks that won’t go bad quickly. This way I’m more prepared for those very spontaneous trips with the kids. Hope this helps you! It’s helped me SO much! 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

I just love seeing you be a mom. My parents were not that involved or imaginative with us. I would have killed to have a mom that constantly makes their world so fun and exciting. Those kids will never doubt that you guys love them and that so beautiful

I live on/near Lake Erie, and have always collected rocks and sea glass, but never did anything with my findings. After watching you for a while (5 years now!), you’ve inspired me to get a tumbler and it is supposed to be delivered TOMORROW! In the last few months I have gotten closer to a few coworkers of mine who I found out also beach comb and tumble rocks. Living near the Great Lakes is pretty cool, and I’m currently planning a summer road trip to see Lake Superior, Michigan, and Huron for the first time!
The clip of Flynn and Maisy running on the beach was so cinematic and serene and it instantly put a smile on my face which was very much needed after a long hectic day. I'm so grateful for your vlogs ❤

It just warms my heart to see the twins go from laying in the NICU covered in wires to seeing them run on the beach with the biggest smiles on their face!! 🥹🥰❤️
There is no judgement here, but I've never understood the hate of laundry. It is one of my preferred house chores because I can throw a load in and walk away and say I'm doing laundry. Then when it comes to folding, I sit and watch tv while folding which makes the whole process more bearable. I guess we all just have those chores we hate.
I'm getting induced tomorrow and I'm freaking out!! I had my daughter 12 years ago and now I'm having a boy!! So nervous but so so excited!!! Wish me luck!!!

I think the whole beach packing thing just shows the difference between a mother and father. Like all those things would actually make the experience easier.
HI Colleen, I love the pirate ship stuff. So creative. I understand how you are about going to the beach or anywhere without notice when Erik wants to do it. I learned to always have a bag packed for my kids. Clothes, snacks, shoes, blankets what ever I thought they would need. I was always ready to go and when I got home and unpacked the bag I would put in fresh clothes etc. Maybe this could help you. It worked for me. Hugs and blessings

TTQ- Are you familiar with resin art? You should arrange your rocks and set them in resin so you can display/hang them up
Thank would be awesome! I would totally do it for free. I love resin art and I have a small business where I sell my stuff 😊
I was thinking the same like when she makes a heart out of them!!
You just made me think of how much easier would be to drill through resin to make a hole then it would be drilling through a rock. If she put like essentially a small flat rock or flatish rock into a resin mold and then the top of the resin mold she literally like drilled a hole and then put like one of those metal loop things through it and then she can essentially put it on a necklace and then wear the rock resin around her neck which would be a cool idea. Another idea. Drill at the top and the bottom of the resin and then use those metal loop things to make like some hanging thing with resin rocks. You can even put sea glass in the resin and that would be cool also. Or like some sort of resin art picture with sea glass or rocks or both that would take a lot more resin.
Even better she can get bangle molds and make bangles/bracelets

This video reminds me so much of the bluey story/episode “the pool” it has been my kids favorite bedtime story this past wee or so and its literally what you are describing! Bluey, Bingo, and Dad learn that sometimes the “boring” stuff (like sunscreen) is important too to have fun.
Oh I love folding laundry. I worked retail for years when I was younger and got really good at department store folds. I still do it just out of habit in my own dresser. There’s times when I see messy piles at stores and fix them while I’m shopping which my friends make fun of me for 🤣
omg same!! i LOVE folding clothes in stores i don’t work at lol, i still fold my clothes the retail way and everyone always points it out like “it doesn’t have to be that perfect” 😅 i don’t even try, it’s just subconscious at this point lol
TTQ: you always talk about your nanny and I’ve wondered if she is live in with you or just comes during the day or only a few days a week etc. I used to want to be a nanny but I became a teacher instead ❤

My nanny help me with that whole transition by starting a bag that is always packed for certain occasions so the bag is already ready to go with some snacks, waters extra clothes, extra shoes, and any other things that you can think of adding that you need for most outings. So it might be a good idea to prepare a beach bag for you and the kids! And then when you guys get home, you just re-pack anything that you used you so you’re always ready for the beach! Your favorite place!!!

Cats are SUPER intellectual and spiritual creatures. I bet you that she feels the energy switch / mood change when you start to vlog!! She can feel the comfort and familiarity inside of you shining out. You’re a natural creator and she feels that energy from her past with you and she’s connected to you in such a special way. You can see that she enjoys the camera. Just like her incredible momma does ❤❤❤❤❤ we love her and you!!!!

It would be cool if you pre pack a beach duffle or knapsack, always ready to go. Then maybe make a laminated checklist, that has items like waters and snacks. Just get a dry erase marker, that way you can reuse the checklist! I’m very Type A personality though, lol! 😅
Coleen as a suggestion for handing your least favorite activity. I gave all my kids those square shelves with cubbies as a dresser. Put pictures of what type of clothes go in each one shirt, pants,socks etc. Then give each kid their basket of clean laundry and have them put them away. No folding needed. I did the same with toys. Then at the end of the day each one gets a special treat or sticker etc for doing their job. Maybe this would help you out.
TTQ: What’s your favorite crystal? Whats your least favorite? Whats a crystal that you don’t have, but really want one?
My favorites are Labrodorite, Larimar, Opals and Rainbow Moonstone, although I like pretty much all of them. One of my favorite crystals is my pink calcite that glows red under a UV light.

TTQ: Colleen, I'm curious exactly what you look up on your phone when you're playing songs on the piano? I've played the piano for 13 years but I always just play piano/vocal/guitar sheet music. Could you show what you read when you're playing the piano?
Not a ttq but when I watch colleens vlogs, she honestly inspires me to be a better mom with how she is so hands on with her kids/plays with them/crafts...etc she reminds me of those moms on tv shows that everyone usually hates initially upon meeting because of pure jealousy. She just seems like such a great mom and as a single mama with a 4yr old and with no help, I look up to how she interacts with her children on her videos xo

Describing the differences in mentalities before you leave the house sounds...a lot like the difference between mom things and dad things lol i'm always the one that has to think of the 'go kit' and all the things we need or may need or could need or will need if i forget it and could need this and oh no might get hungry and need the med kit in case somebody loses a finger lol whereas he's just shoes on out the dang door lol :D
It's called the unfortunately phenomenon where women just carry more of the mental load.. and it sucks.
Yeah, moms are usually the ones with the mental load and dads get to be the fun spontaneous ones who are used to someone else taking care of that...

Tortilla talk question? Are you ever going to do a house tour? I know you said when you first moved there you wanted to wait untill the house is clean but with 3 toddlers that's nearly impossible for anyone. We don't judge you we love you for who you are!!

Random idea but I love watching you bake, and I think it'd be so fun if in a vlog you bake something while answering tortilla talk questions! And you could also show us how to make whatever you bake, even if it's just simple cookies

TTQ: what part of You're and Eric's relationship has changed and evolved the most that it surprises you?
For my relationship it's how cuddly my partner has become. He wasn't the very touchy kind of guy when I met him and now he'll roll over in his sleep so he could cuddle me closer, before when I would ask for some cuddles He would kind of make a grown sound before he would oblige. 😅❤

Idea!! Keep a beach bag ready with most of the stuff you need when bringing the kids to the beach! That way you can grab and run!!

I just wanted to say that you Colleen are such an AMAZING MAMA!! When I watch your videos, it reminds me of how I wanted to parent my kiddos,who are now 23 and 19 and my 19 year old daughter is actually in Iceland doing missionary work with her college, but I always always had arts and craft supplies around for them and I now get to look back on everything I kept for them and reminisce on the moments we had so much fun together... now my son lives in a different state and my daughter is in college to be a pediatrician and I can't wait to be a grandma so I can do this stuff all over again!! I love your parenting style!!! YO HO HO...ARGH MATEY!!!❤❤❤

Laundry tip, separate each persons clothes in their own pile before you start folding them. Makes it a little more bearable with a big family! 👚🧦👕

My name is Lyn and I have been watching your channel since I got a traumatic brain injury in 2008, so whatever you have posted I have watched in extreme pain in bed, in hospital, at my parents when I needed help caring for myself, I never missed a video. You have inspired me as a Mom even though my kids are 23 and 19 and watching you try new things has kept me entertained and believe me I have cried along with you in your videos. This new rock phase makes me want to do it but I don't live by the sea! Those babies of yours, all 3, I love to watch them as it takes me back to when my kids were little like that and before I was disabled for life, I would play with them the way you do and Flynn and my son are 2 peas in a pod. Love all of you thank you for all the effort you put in for us, you literally help my life every single day. hugs!!

Colleen! I live by wool dryer balls. They help speed up the drying process and reduce static. This might be helpful for you when you’re doing a million loads of laundry ❤

I always kept a bag in the car with extra clothes, diapers, wipes etc. Because things happen lol. Obviously as they grow I had to swap the stuff out but it was nice to have.
Are you burnishing your rocks after polishing? I heard this helps their gloss come out

I love that you made a cardboard pirate ship. My uncle made one for my siblings and I when we were kids and it’s such a special memory! In our heads/memory the ship was huge but I recently saw a picture and it was about the size you made 🤣 your kids will think that is the coolest thing and have amazing memories 🏴☠️❤
Tip: store your clothes in little baskets and skip the folding, just put it in not folded. Most clothes today are made in a material that is fairly wrinkle free so you really don't need to fold it
recently i learned about Japanese glass floats that some people have found and thought it would be really cool if Eric ever found one now that hes into sea glass they are just glass balls basically that were used for fishing nets back in the day on japanese fishing boats
Maybe you could make an emergency beach bag to keep in the car so when Eric says “let’s go right now” you don’t have as much to pack? Like a doomsday bag but for fun beach adventures!
TTQ: have you seen any of the videos of mudlarking on UA-cam now that you’re an avid beachcomber? Some of the ones specifically in London are so cool because it’s such an old city and the river has so many interesting treasures from history. Highly recommend!

Since you go to the beach so often you could make a to-go bag like for music or dance class. It’s just the beach bag instead of the dance bag. It makes going quickly much easier as it’s all in one place. My mom did that and I am sure it’s because she had ADHD. You remind me of her. You try so hard to be the best mom. It’s so beautiful. But unlike my mom you are working on yourself and your kids will only be better for that. I feel like my inner child has been totally indulged by you parenting your kids as that who my mom should have parented me…but I built amazing skills because my mom allowed me to fail and try again. You do a great job. ❤

Tortilla talk question: What are your favorite beaches to go to in California? Your beaches have sooooo many amazing rocks! I live in Oregon, and while we do have good agate beaches, they don’t even compare to yours! On a good day I can find green jasper and agates, maybe one piece of sea glass if I’m lucky. If yall are ever in Oregon I think you and the fam have to check out Short sand beach, and then go to the Tillamook cheese factory! Your family would have so much fun there, and they have the best food and ice cream 😍
I don't think it's a difference in parenting styles. It's more you're the mom and he's the dad. I'm not saying all dads are that way, but most won't think about everything the kids will need. It's a man thing.
Weekend are always the busiest for me:)

Maybe this sounds weird but maybe make a spontaneous bag. Make a bag with extra clothes towels, shoes ext minus the snacks and set aside for just these moments that way all you need to grab is maybe some snacks and you're ready to go
