Friends for Life - The Legend of Korra - Free Comic Book Day 2016 (No Spoiler)

As a child living in the Southern Water Tribe, Korra finds a polar bear dog cub which has become separated from its pack in a storm. After Korra names it Naga, Katara convinces Korra's parents, Tonraq and Senna, to allow her to keep Naga, believing that Korra has found her animal guide.
Note: This version has been slightly edited to remove one slight spoiler from Korra Season 4. It contains no spoilers past the first episode of The Legend of Korra.

So it’s implied that the avatar always reincarnates with a guardian animal but like why? Like it’s cute and I love that it’s a thing. But since we already know the origin of the Avatar how does the animal part go into it

the only avatar animals we really see is appa and roku's dragon and both of them died before the next animal was born so maybe they're reincarnations as well

I think after wan the avatar probably wasn’t a well known thing for probably around ten avatars, I mean who would belive you could do all ten elements and pretty much fused with god, so I like to belive that after around ten avatar Rava was like, “PET”. And just dished our avatar juice energy to some random animal to protect the avatar

We see avatar wan save a cat-deer who was by his side when he fought vatuu with raava. The animal goes on to become his lifelong companion. It’s possible that the same way the avatar spirit reincarnates, the animals spirit also reincarnates to be with them. Like a soulmate connection

Since in Malay and Indonesian language “naga” is a word for dragon, sometimes I just wanna say that Naga is a dragon.
