Robert Dougherty, a retired Philly Mounted Police officer was one of the first people to teach me to ride. He had a couple of horses at his house on Mermaid Lane in Germantown. One of a kind person and a great teacher! He ran a small summer camp for kids and he took us to the Northwestern Avenue stables to watch old calvary videos.

Yes kind of is, im sure a lot of training they do would be similar for battle horses.
Police officers on horseback gives a calming feeling. My daughter and I once pet a horse with a Royal Canadian Mounted Police sitting on it. We pretty much forgot that there's a man armed with handcuffs, a hand gun a police stick and perhaps a tazer. Somehow animals give me that affect.
Horses are actually an extreamly effective form of theraphy!
They are a very good tool for motion theraphy and mental aswell. (As a very depressed person, the only time I enjoy life is when riding)
Little kids with disabilities can also flourish with horse theraphy!

I would say more like modern day war horses, probably the training done was probably similar to what they did during training for war horses during the medieval period, before, and after.

I was raised on Race n 63rd in West Phila. They were always in the park and all police were friendly and knowledgeable with us kids. Felt much protection from predators in the park any time of the day. That was bk in the late sixties when predators were quietly prevalent but still around and ready to abuse us kids. I’m one of nine and one of us were always coming home with someone approached them. It’s not even a choice not to have police in the communities. Thank you for all the good you do to keep us safe and others straight

Its amazing what you can teach a horse! Everything horses learn to do is so opposite of theyre nature and yet so bravely, they give theyre heart and do it all the same.
I heard a case were a criminal was detained and a pet the horse and because of his comfort level with the horse, he released a crazy amount of information to the officer.
Another officer on horseback pursued a criminal and because he was so high up could give specific information as to where he was running and helped detain him. They are a very valuable patrol.

i feel like their imposing and intimidating and that that's the point , also so that they can see over and herd crowds .
You know what are some reasons I can see why police officers have no excuse me of not using horses to control people because if you can't control people because it you can control people by hand well horses can do it for and horses can do it for you.

A lot of the horses look like part draft horses. Luckily, I believe I did see a few Morgan horses which were the original American police horse :)

This is really cool, but some of the human officers need a bit more training. I see a lot of rein jerking and pulling, putting traumatic pressure on that pain bit in the poor horses' mouths.

Horse "Cops" should be Illegal. I highly doubt that horses want to trot around different towns doing "police work".. 100% animal abuse for sure.
