This final day had everything, a red card, injuries, penalties (1 missed 1 scored) pitch invasion, last minute goals, Crazy managers and a stupid amount of additional time!! And an error which cost Watford everything
2020 and I’m still watching this, I remember watching this live what a brilliant end to the season! It’s also weird to think that season all the teams who were in the playoff ; Watford, Brighton , Palace and Leicester are all premier league clubs while Cardiff and hull are struggling in the championship.
To be fair to Hull City, they had big problems with their ownership. A lack of investment from those owners, as well as selling their best players, meant that Hull were in danger of entering administration at one point.
Then that last kick of the game second leg playoff between Watford and Leicester followed this. Where Leicester had a penalty saved at the very end and Watford immediately went up the otter end and scored. Incredible season.
Duplin97 Good to hear mate. From the Championship all the way down to the conference there always seems to be more at stake. One minute the fans of any club could feel the euphoria of facing premiership times next season, only to blow it on one mistake (And Vise Versa). The next season they might not only be fighting to stay in that very league, but also trying to stay alive as a club, due to the financial strain they put upon themselves to reach the top flight. It really is the magic of the pyramid system. A point of context for ya, we now have little old Bournemouth in the premier league (Tiny club, with good financial backing ATM), and Sheffield United/Portsmouth in far lower divisions (Clubs with massive fan bases, but have suffered due to decisions made in the past). The fruits of labour are far more rewarding when the risk of failure is so high (That's probably why the British go ballistic when their team score, there is so much on the line ). I know your post is old but it's always great to see someone across the pond appreciate the beautiful game in it's real context. Too many skim across the surface of the sport, and all they see is overpaid stars dive for a living. peace
I feel so bad for Watford's 3rd goalkeeper... that is not an experience a goalkeeper or anyone should ever feel... poor lad... didn't have the experience to play in that situation... and that cost Watford greatly
Why is Troy Deeney even arguing? That is what always stumped me. He's on a yellow, he made a very late and rash tackle... That is one of the most obvious second yellows I've ever seen
That push, which result in Bond's injury... In my opinion, that's a clear red card The push is obviously deliberate, and he knows that will make the players crash. Very dangerous play, clear red card, and 3 games suspension.
I think the commentators were harsh on Jack. He was the third keeper with little top flight experience. Everyones human and makes mistakes. It's a learning block for him
What really should have happened that day.... is Watford should have got a late winner.... And then Hull would have looked like the true bellends we all know they are hahaha
now i know why the commentator of that deeney goal against leicester said "it almost mirrors the final day".

It’s almost funny how this highlight package begins with Watford being denied a penalty considering that finish haha
As an American, this I can appreciate. Beats the hell out of the defensive stalemate EPL matches a league up. Thrilling to say the least!

Just to be clear, this is the moment Watford fans should blame for not going up, not Kevin Phillips' penalty at Wembley

Elite day this was
By far the most dramatic last day I can remember. If someone would've handed you that as a script, you'd have said no one will believe that!
That's what makes football at this level so good.
