  • Today we're going to be looking at Prym's Comfort
Twist Knitting Mill. If you're anything like me, and you want to make I-cords or any type of cordage, and you don't have time to be sitting there all day. Making them with a crochet hook is a pain! Most cord makers are a hassle to work with.
I decided to go online and look for the one of the best reviewed knitting
Mill machines and I came up with the Comfort twist knitting Mill

I love this device! Fortunately, I bought mine back before prices skyrocketed :). My favorite thing to do with this is: find a bulky yarn of blank cotton core - from the sewing section of the store, usually sold on roll or by-the-yard- start your iCord with a #2 or smaller thread/yarn, work a few turns then insert the core/bulky yarn. It can be tricky, as the core will be twisting as you knit the iCord, but in the end, you will have a filled fluffy iCord. Really cool and very useful for accessories, handles, or making your own bulky yarn.

Pyrm has such nice products. Worsted yarn is definitely tricky but I love using crochet thread for eyeglasses holders, mask holders, etc.. It's a bit of a learning curve but after a few minutes, it's no problem. I've also used some thicker sewing thread and it works great!!!

I have a question and I'm hoping a fellow knitter can help me out. I purchased a shawl knitting pattern from Stephen west and you had to knit an i cord and then pick up the stitches to start the shawl i believe(its been a while) and i tried for a bit but i HATED knitting that i cord and the thought of picking up all those stitches afterwards was just too much. So i gave up after a while and i have avoided any pattern with i cords ever since(years). Can anyone tell me if you can use a machine like this or some device to knit your i cord for you and then use that i cord to knit the garment? Or is that not possible and you can only use them to knit i cords if you're going to use the i cord on its own as yarn or a Keychain etc. If anyone can help I'd appreciate it! ❤😊

I had the smaller blue prym knitting mill for over 15 years and was very happy with it. I work in Kindergarten and use it an awful lot! Even the 3-6 year old kids had success in creating icord. The only thing I wasn‘t too keen on was the weight. The old prym knitting mill was smaller( less storage room) , lighter, easier to hold in your hand and a real workhorse. I wouldn‘t have bought a new one. But a kid dropped it and it fell down stone steps and unfortunately broke. I decided to buy the much more expensive new version as I liked the idea of the table clamp and the weight looked interesting. But to be honest I am really disappointed! It is overpriced and not well thought out at all.
The worst thing is the size and weight. It is far too bulky and heavy for 3 -6 year old kids to hold onto for long. I had no problem using the old machine while standing and cranking away for an hour. The big new machine is uncomfortable to hold after a minute and the hand gets tired quickly. Unfortunately the table clamp is useless as most tables are too thick for it. I tried it on one thinner table but I just didn‘t hold well and slid off a few times. But the part I absolutely hate is the tension holder. In the old version you had to feed the yarn through an opening on the outside and then through the middle of the knitting mill. It stayed where it was meant to be and held the tension wonderfully even when the kids used it. The new knitting mill has two open arms you slip it in between. It might be easier to feed the yarn through but the yarn keeps slipping out all the time as those 2 bent arms don’t close. That way the tension isn‘t kept consistent and the machine doesn‘t work as quickly and smoothly as the old version. I‘ve been doing kilometers of icord in the past and never had problems with the old small prym knitting machine. The result was always perfect. I am very used to using these type of machines but this one doesn‘t work nicely and produced quite a few irregularities in the icord .
I‘ve tried it off and on for 3 days and the colleagues were also unhappy using it. This machine is a waste of money. I‘ll send it back and buy the smaller old version you showed in the beginning…

I never had any issues with the purple knitting mill either. I think this review is just a justification for purchasing a shiny new toy for a lot more money :D which I don't have any issue with, but I don't see any huge differences worthy the price differences tbh. Both do the job efficiently, and with a little DIY anyone could device a clamp on the purple prym as well. Me personally I am happy I have one at all, and this "review" did not convince me to "upgrade" to a new one at all.
