  • A series of B&W photographs taken in Dunlop and district in and around April 1913 by a R.S.McLelland for Robert Highet who was the treasurer of the Dunlop Golf Course in 1909. The village has changed surprisingly little apart from peoples clothing! The railway station has lost it's signal box, station buildings and goods shed. The curling pond is now just a boggy area near the Dunlop Community Woodland. Borland Castle is long gone and nothing remains of Borland House other than the walled garden and a pigsty. The Sandy Ford over the Glazert Water is now unused, but it has the ghost of a Kilwinning Abbey monk to keep it company.
The Lion Rock may no longer survive - does anyone recognise it? The Ogrirt Stone may once have rocked and graves are said to lie around it. The Gallows of Galloway Ford are no more but a possible Justice Hill stands on nearby Bloak Moss.

I lived in Dunlop from 1999-2002. There have been changes since then. When I lived there, there was a hairdressers, a bank and a small tavern on Main Street all of which have now closed and been made into houses. Before 2009 the train station had only one platform and a single track. There was also a cricket club which closed in 1999, but then score board remained standing until fairly recently. My mum and her then boyfriend planted a tree in a field along with many other people. Beside the Iron Age fort

Yes - some big changes as you say. Shame about the cricket club.

@@rogergriffith286 I’m not surprised the bank closed. It was only open Tuesday and Thursday from 9am-12pm and it didn’t have an ATM
