"Like a bird on a wire, like a drunk in a midnight choir, I have tried in my way to be free" Farewell Leonard Cohen, your magic lives on in your beautiful songs.
One of my favorite songs ever, during my lifetime. Love this performance from Leonard's later years. Have been listening to him for over 50 years. He is sorely missed.............
Had to listen to my older sisters records of him as a kid; became a fan years later and saw him live 4 times. This is one of his best early songs--my opinion.
A man born to reach the zenith of soul stirring poetry yet mired in the nadir of life's vagaries...may your healing soul be delivered to the peace of the angels.
In August 2016, Marianne passed, in Norway, at age 91. It is said he wrote this song to her; the second song he wrote to her, in fact. Cohen wrote when he learned she was nearing the end that he felt he would be joining her very soon.
I feel like I missed out on great music. I didn't know about Leonard Cohen until a couple of years ago when "Hallelujah" was used in a episode of NCIS. I know I've heard this one covered, but this is the first time I've heard Leonard sing it.
I agree. I think with age, there is more depth to his music and voice. Sometimes, living does that to you. R.I.P., Mr. Cohen. Found you late in life. My only regret is I didn't get a chance to see and hear you and your wonderful band before now.
Come on, Leonard! This was The best version you ever did of The Bird on a wire... London, September 15, 2013. Please say Hello to Mariann if you have already met up with her! Yours forever, Soeren / Norway
A moving performance by a great poet… unique voice! He gave it all, and I am satisfied to know that he felt ready to leave this life… Leonard of blessed memory. Linda S.
its remembered me on my happy childhood...the lots birds on the wire...and I had a little shotgun...and we were play the own game...Leonard the great !
Leonard Cohen Like a bird on the wire, like a drunk in a midnight choir I have tried in my way to be free. Like a worm on a hook, like a knight from some old fashioned book I have saved all my ribbons for thee. If I, if I have been unkind, I hope that you can just let it go by. If I, if I have been untrue I hope you know it was never to you. Like a baby, stillborn, like a beast with his horn I have torn everyone who reached out for me. But I swear by this song and by all that I have done wrong I will make it all up to thee. I saw a beggar leaning on his wooden crutch, he said to me, "You must not ask for so much." And a pretty woman leaning in her darkened door, she cried to me, "Hey, why not ask for more?" Oh like a bird on the wire, like a drunk in a midnight choir I have tried in my way to be free.
It's sad he had to go out working at such an advanced age, to earn back some money, because his manager ripped him off (per the New York Post). May his memory be a blessing, always. RIP :'(

It's sad he had to go out working at such an advanced age, to earn back some money, because his manager ripped him off (per the New York Post). May his memory be a blessing, always. RIP :'(
He made it all back and much more...he worked because he was inspired, and loved making music. May his legend live forever.
Not sad for us. The older he got, the better he got.

Como um pássaro em um fio
Como um bêbado em um coral da meia-noite
Eu tentei ser livre
Como um peixe em um anzol
Como um cavaleiro de um livro antiquado
Guardei todas as minhas fitas contigo
Ele me chamou: "Não peça muito"
E um jovem encostado na porta escura
Ele gritou para mim "Ei, por que não pedir mais"
If I, if I have been untrue
I hope you know it was never to you. [ SEVILLA ]
