If you saw your friend get sucked up by a bright light, and into a pipe the way he was, you wouldn't stand there, you'd fucking run for your life. This scene really scared me when I was like 8 or 9 years old. This whole movie was actually terrifying!
And they say no one believed Henry Bowers about the light which killed Belch, which also got him to confess about killing those other kids, besides Pennywise, which had him end up in jail forever and then 30 years later he’s seen at that asylum or whatever he ended up in.

I think it's because his worst fear was getting old, and that Pennywise wanted to mess with him by making it sorta true by making his hair white
