WE are in the middle of winter ATM so growing conditions for summer vegetables are challenging. It should be mentioned that the principal growing areas have been hit by THREE major floods in the last few months, which totally wiped out the crops. In a couple of weeks they will be back in the shops at 2

There are so many "top 5 things I hate/love about wherever" videos and they can come across a little preachy or whiney. This is one of the most level headed, pragmatic assessments I've heard in ages. Work out what is important to you. Do your research. Be open minded. Australia isn't perfect, but on balance it ain't bad!!

Bare in mind -with fresh food and meats -Australia restricts food imports to prevent diseases and pests that affect food crops. We are a net exporter of food- but we have had catastrophic floods that have affected the food growing areas along the entire east coast where a lot of vegetables and fruits are grown -hence the higher than normal prices - Lettuce is costing around $12 for one previously it was $1. A lot of farms where destroyed along with equipment and machinery all this will take 6 months to a year before recovering, so we where expecting high food spikes check out either woolworths or coles supermarkets on line to gauge pricing - Australia's enjoy food crops year round hence the fluctuations in pricing based on supply and demand- I checked after I posted this and lettuce in my local Wooolworths is now $1 each

I assume that when you say visiting other countries is a bit different and difficult than when you were in the U K your referring to Europe , because its obviously easier to visit the south pacific Islands New Zealand and all of Asia from Australia as apposed to the UK and the West Coast of America is only a days flight away and having done this trip a few times find it reasonably easy to except especially if your flying QANTAS the absolute best Airline out there . I've found that my friends who are immigrants to this wondrous place were people who were willing to engage with me and my family and not limit themselves to their own ethnic group , not only have they embraced our culture they have welcomed us into theirs I still get a pleasant little surprise when a Chinese friend calls me mate or my friend from Afghanistan gets his wife to show my daughter how to cook traditional meals for our get together and barbecues, its as you say , you (we) all just have to make an effort , As to the monetary side of Australia versus anywhere else , if your fed , clothed and sheltered , your ahead of the game and as long as you live within your means and leave time to enjoy life you've actually won .I am lucky enough to have friends that include tradespeople , labourers , shop assistants , teachers and business owners and even a millionair all of them are treated equally and they all treat me the same , they all have the same aspirations and problems as anyone else , and we all just get on with it that's the Australian way .

Know anyone that wants to come work in retail? 😜. On the news earlier "Australia's retail sector is battling a labour crisis, with 29,000 unfulfilled jobs."
This tracks. Have seen a lot of retail and hospitality owners and managers saying they can't fill positions so they're turning to hiring travellers from overseas.
Most industries are in demand at the moment. Unemployment is low.

I have a question I'm wondering can you guys help me with. On the immi website it doesn't specify what level of qualification you need to obtain the 482 visa be it a Bachelor's, H Dip, MSc etc. It just says you need a skill that's on the list and 2 years experience in that field. Now I'm a police officer in Ireland but I'm not on the skilled shortage list and I have a BA in policing. I am looking to reskill in Health and Safety by completing a level 9 professional Diploma but the advice I've been given is that a Bachelor's degree or higher will be acceptable. Now a level 9 is up there with Masters level in Ireland but isn't I suppose a full degree. It's more like a postgraduate award. But I don't see how this isn't sufficient especially when Safety Officer IS on the skills shortage list.
Apologies for the very long comment but I'm just trying to get my head around the visa options and requirements.
    Thanks

6:44 - This is a yes and no - Australia is highly unique in that Australia to South-east Asia flights are the only long haul budget carrier flights that are economically viable in the world (due to the Asian population and it being non-seasonal). For example, it is often *cheaper* to fly to Singapore from Australia than it is flying coast-to-coast in Australia, despite the difference in distance. And also as things are cheaper in SE Asia, many Australians go to those countries as tourists vs. often far more expensive regional flights and other tourist infrastructure in the Outback.

Recommend ask your employer for advice on where to rent?
The greatest advantage of having 29% of your population being born overseas and 50% having a parent from another country is people here have more empathy for someone who arrives here from overseas and will try and help you. I’ve even given advice to someone I don’t know moving from Perth to Sydney as local knowledge is a greatest thing and they have a vested interest in you succeeding. If they offer a real estate name use that and google to local real estate agents and tell them when you need a place and why in advance. People genuinely want you you to succeed like their parent or they have. Stephen M

I've lived in the UK and Australia. There is no comparison between living in OZ vs UK. But here are the main differences.
    1. Housing is hard. To buy an affordable house you'll be commuting for hours. I know of people who spend 1 to 3 hours commuting to work daily. I am luck here because I like small apartment living.
    2. Xenophobia; Australia is not the most friendly country to minorities. At times our xenophobia becomes violent and terrifying. We are far more xenophobic than the UK.
    3. Our Medicare rocks all over the NHS.
    4. The out doors, hiking and biking about the same here as the UK.
    5. Pay and conditions at work; Australia is 100% better than the UK.
    6. Often getting this leave though is hard particularly if your in a skill shortage. You can find your self "leave locked".
    7. The use of Meth in Australia especially in our suburban areas is high. This has led to large no go area's. These zones blend in with what's around them. So be aware.
    8. If given the choice of raising children between here and the UK. I would choose Australia. Simply because your allowed to excell at school. In the UK the school system encourages the average.
