John, I want to thank you for your dedication by not only showing us and the world your videos. But educating everyone about the inherent dangers firefighters around the world go through JUST TO GET TO THE FIRES AND SAVE LIVES AND PROPERTY. There are many inconsiderate drivers and pedestrians the hamper the response of Emergency Vehicles. Your videos does a great public service in this regard. I hope that the FDNY and NYPD and other jurisdictions globally uses your videos the public about the need to always YIELD TO SIRENS AND EMERGENCY WARNING LIGHTS. Thank you John and God Bless you and our First Responders.
I cannot recall any instance where this level of incredibly valuable fireground documentation has ever been gathered and so freely distributed with no cost to taxpayers. If “the government” gag undertaken the same effort, the job would have been botched and the cost would have been millions. While some fireground decisions may be questionable, the videography here is always world class. Whoever you are, a huge “hat tip”!tp you for your years of hard and often dangerous work.
Absolutely amazing footage my friend! ;-)! The steeple of the church collapsing was very interesting to see; I'm glad you captured that! Great job with the movement between the two fires and all of the awesome angles! Keep up the very nice work JJ!
@@wesleymay602 the buzzing noises are the motion detectors on the SCBA (airpack). They go off if you remain motionless for like 30 seconds. The idea being that it alerts your fellow fire fighters that you are down in a building. But they also go off when you are standing around outside you just need to shake it a bit to stop it.
Excellent footage especially when the tower collapsed, lucky noone got messed up with the live wires when they came down. You did well to hold the shot, most people would drop the camera and run!
Great Video clip! Excuse me for the intrusion, I would appreciate your thoughts. Have you ever tried - Rozardner Lucky Interview Reality (search on google)? It is an awesome one of a kind guide for firefighter interview tips minus the hard work. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my old buddy Taylor got great success with it.
Thanks so much for capturing this video. This is my old stomping ground. I used to live a few doors down from that Church, I was even a youth minister there. I used to be captain of UCEMS before later becoming an FDNY medic so this video REALLY hit home for me on so many levels! As a matter of fact, that corner where you filmed the FDNY ladder truck was turning (13th & Summit) there is a night club called TOPPS that I used to spin records at when I was a DJ! ...so many freaking memories for me just now in this one video. I'm blown away man.
This video just popped up in my feed today and you did an amazing job catching the operations and especially that steeple collapse. My heart was in my throat for a while watching that one. The church rebuilt the steeple a year later to the exact same design as before so you can't even tell. The original fire buildings on Summit Avenue were demolished quickly, and the sites were still vacant lots as of 3 years ago (per Google street view). Gotta hand it to the chauffeur of Tower Ladder 12 for his professional handling of that tight turn. I think North Hudson keeps some tillers in this area for that reason, those streets are surely tight. Great video as always brother!
I'm sorry a life was lost but man the NYFD really did a great job battling 2 different fire scenes. This is why they're the best in the world. Thank you for the awesome footage brother great job....
wow. hard to believe this was 5 years ago. this happened right down boulevard east from my cousin in north bergen. awesome footage you got. especially getting so close to the church collapsing and all those electrical lines blowing the way they did. only time i seen it to the point the FDNY showed up. seen the FDNY in New Jersey but not for something like this. awesome job my guy
I don't know about you,...but I just LOVE the new aerials and tower ladders with the illuminated lights!!! Looks awesome!!! Another great video,...as always. Thanks for sharing!!!
john I have the utmost respect for you . It is the hardest conditions to film these kind of fires in the freezing cold thru the middle of the night. You are very dedicated and are wonderful. I look forward to doing buffing with you & Skyler whenever we come up from Florida --- Debbie
Time stamp for the spectacular steeple collapse at 16:40. Thought it was pointless the cops telling you to back up after the steeple collapsed! 😆 But now, fast forward to 2023 and you now have the respect and camaraderie of fire chiefs and crew with the pretty much unrestricted access getting up close and personal with fires without being told to get the F out. Absolutely amazing the parish survived pretty much unscathed. I have a Facebook friend who can still say he has the honor of being a substitute organist at that parish.
John this has to be one of your craziest fires to cover with two separate scenes. And the tower collapse was pretty insane. Multiple cars engulfed. Great job.
16:44 Was the Blue Lite Special!!!!!!! Be careful my friend John !!! Super job in Filming!!!! One of your best my Friend. I said a prayer when the cross came down....:) Paul from Orange, Ma..
Nasty fire that one. Cold, windy night with embers flying wildly all over the place, old wooden buildings all packed in tight. Could've been a major disaster there. The men did a great job to keep it to what they did. Big fan of your vids by the way, from Oz.
WELL, THE ORIGINAL FIRE BUILDING EMBERS BLEW OVER TO THE NEXT STREET AND STARTED THE CHURCH FIRE! THEY WERE BOTH 5 ALARM FIRES! THANKS SO MUCH MY FRIEND MURRAY! ;o)
John, Yesterday was a busy day in the N.Y.City metropolitan area with the 4th alarm in Jersey City and the 6th alarm in lower Manhattan. I was checking UA-cam for videos on either fire and found Jeff Stang's video of the 4th alarm in Jersey City. Jeff's video led me to this video where you and Squad 99 responded to and covered two major fires in Union City simultaneously. I know I've commented on this video after you first posted it, but now after watching it a second time I must tell you this is some of your very best work. Please stay safe as you and Squad 99 respond to major incidents and fires where ever they may be.
WOW! That’s really scary when buildings or tall structures collapse because you never know when one would collapse but it’s weird that there would be two fires at one but it’s kind of rare but nice video
The application of liquid phase DI hydrogen monoxide beginning at 9:00 to the vertical, columnar engineered structure was interesting. It appears this novel compound, though composed of elements known to separately promote combustion may have value as an anti oxidation agent if applied in large volumes to combustion reactions. I love your shots at 2:02 where you focus on the church fire and very smoothly you move your camera to the other one. You are a pro my friend! Compared to many others who have also very good stuff, your videos are like a story who captive ours eyes. And to do so, you think, you observe and you take the time to create your story before filming. It's all the difference in the world with what is good and what is very good. I can wait to see you maybe sometime this year. Be safe! Gilles
I would have like to have known what the ladder tower was shooting water at the was left of the Church as you were facing the Church. I saw the ladder tower shooting water that direction twice and the 2nd time was at the 15 minute mark.
WELL, THANKS SO MUCH MY GREAT FRIEND DAVE! OF COURSE IN THE BEGINNING WITH A MENTOR AND TEACHER SUCH AS YOURSELF HOW CAN I POSSIBLY FAIL AT THIS! HEHEHE! YOU'RE THE BEST! ;o)
What can one say when you see a fire like that. You were in the right place at the right time to catch the steeple collapsing and hitting the power line knocking out power for the area. Wow comes to mind, but it does not fit here, as long as you guys are safe, has to be one of the bigget fires thus far in 2017 JJ! Good video :o)
Some amazing footage John, especially the collapsing church spire. Guess nobody thought to get the utility company to shut down the power to those wires! Stay safe and warm, and I'm looking forward to seeing your footage of the Queens 7th alarm since I see you've uploaded a preview already!
Once again Buddy -- EXCELLENT!!! Way to hold that shot ... and follow it down! You know you're good ..... but now ... I think you're GREAT !! BUT >> only cuz you gotta pay to get back home !! I hope u got EZ Pass cuz the frickin tunnel dont come cheap goin back home !!! {:

John, This video with 2 multiple alarm fires around the corner from one another just may be your best work to date. I see your friend John was buffing with with you on that freezing night in Union City. I have a question for you. After parking your car you saw the church fire first. On your way to the church fire you came upon the original fire in three buildings. After walking around the block to the church fire there was a NHFR squad company with a rear mount ladder equipped with ladder pipe spraying water onto the opposite side of the street of the church fire. You then mentioned something about another fire across the street. After several minutes the squad unit redirected their stream back to the church steeple. Was there also a third fire that the squad was working on or were they just providing a water curtain so the buildings across the street from the church wouldn't catch on fire too. Thank you so much for you hard work and determination showing the world how professional fire fighters operate within the USA.
WELL, NO TOMMY, THERE WERE ONLY THE TWO FIRES! THE ONE IN THE CHURCH AND THE ONE IN THE BUILDINGS! THE LADDER WAS SPRAYING ACROSS THE CHURCH TO KEEP THE EMBERS FROM SPREADING YET AGAIN AND STARTING MORE FIRES! HOPE THAT HELPS AND THANKS AGAIN TOMMY! ;o)
Thanks John. I thought this was the case. BTW, I don't know if you're aware of this or not, but somebody uploaded your HCFR video to UA-cam 17 hours ago under the title "Child Killed, Church Collapses in Explosive Union City Fires / Firefighting.
Another good job taking videos when you come across the river to film fire in Jersey it must be big one also when are you going to put up the 7 alarm fire in Queens that I can't wait to see.
It's sad. I used to go to that church every single Saturday😭. It was big and beautiful in the inside. I feel horrible for the 2 year old that died in this incident😭😭. God be with us🙏🏼
YEAH, IT IS SAD ABOUT THE CHILD INDEED! AS FOR THE CHURCH IT WAS LARGELY SPARED AND WILL BE BACK AS SOON AS THEY CAN FIX THE DAMAGE TO THE STEEPLE! THANKS SO MUCH! ;o)
It's interesting the car, next to the church, keeps on burning, and won't be tamed. I'm thinking an electric car's battery? Somehow the churches tower includes structural steel. Structural steel might mean the tower has burnt before. That's just a guess on my part, unless the church if fairly recent build. SS Joseph and Michael Catholic Church...right?
PROBABLY GASOLINE FED AND I AM NOT SURE ABOUT THE CHURCH TOWER BUT IT WAS ALL SAD TO ESPECIALLY IT BEING RULED ARSON AND DEADLY.....;o( THANKS SO MUCH.....
holy crap 2 major fires car fire and a part of a building collapse wow my prayers goes out 2 all the families involved and 2 all fighters and first responders
Does the FD ask for your video footage? Especially the church steeple falling, because it might be important for training or demonstration or even for insurance purposes. ?? Thanks.
Was there any communication from the hosting fire dept to FDNY as to where to come in from? Seems like the should have given better instructions to FDNY as to where to come in with that tower ladder.
When I heard about this fire. I immediately wondered if you'd be on this. Obviously this answers my question. Also what's the status of the church? I can't find anything online?
Hi: Wow, you were there for yje money shot. When the steple fell that was wild. Very good shots of multi fires. The fire departments had there hands full. Do you ever go back and film the fire sites during the day after the fire?

Seventeen minutes later the steeple collapses. You were right, it was going to collapse any minute.
YES AND THX.....
