- Dexter is an American television drama series, which debuted on Showtime on October 1, 2006. The sixth season premiered on October 2, 2011. The series centers on Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall), a bloodstain pattern analyst for the Miami Metro Police Department who moonlights as a serial killer. Set in Miami, the show's first season was largely based on the novel Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay, the first of his Dexter series novels. Subsequent seasons have evolved independently of Lindsay's works; several based on short stories by Lindsay's friend, Stephen R. Pastore. It was adapted for television by screenwriter James Manos, Jr., who wrote the first episode.

The people who came up with this opening sequence are creative geniuses. I love that they also used a couple of variations of it in the show. They used it to express the feeling of liberation Dexter felt when Doakes took the fall for the BHB killings (thanks to Lila). They also used a discordant version when Harrison was born, to portray how utterly knackered Dexter was. Great stuff.
So satisfying to watch, honestly.

Dexter was the first TV show I ever watched on my own when I was old enough to learn how to pirate stuff. I remember the twist in the first season absolutely blowing me away and I've had a greater appreciation for the art form ever since.

I've been thinking, he failed us when he killed the mosquito by smacking it, should have tied it up with plastic wraps, question it, cut its face, take the blood, show the mosquito who it killed during the ritual before stabbing it with a knife.

God this theme is nostalgic for some reason Haven’t watched the show. But my mom did, I heard this theme A LOT.

Literally just started watching this show, and I gotta say, this sequence is absolutely brilliant!
Underrated intro for sure. Absolutely up there for some of the best ever created. The blood transitioning to the pork job always gets me. The cuts of the great fruit residuals, the resistance as he pulls the floss out of his teeth, of course, the tightening of his boot laces-and as if on queue, a simple white shirt breezes past our dark and dreamy Dexter.

Wouldn't say a masterpiece, very good show but seasons 6-8 kinda ruin it. Especially season 6 like Jesus that season was so dumb.
I love this! Obviously inspired by The Ipcress File opening credits, and like in that film there are some nice, clever touches that are so foreboding to his character and say more so much about him :)
This show was so great. Mom and I used to watch it every night together. And I truly appreciate how creatively well done the opening is. One of the best I've seen, hands down.

this series is a perfect example of what happens when you jump the shark, but this intro I always enjoyed..
After scoring 187 on the IQ test in 2005 as a child prodigy and model and being entered into the Davidsons Young Scholars nationwide database as having the highest female IQ score, I have suspected that I inspired Sheldon Cooper with his 187 IQ and Texan heritage, however I must say this might be even more a favorite show of mine for some reason. Love them both equally.

Pelican flash dance, you are spot on. I have just watched the Ipcress file for the first time since I was a young lad, I'm 50 now! The inspiration goes to the point of plagiarism, but its great for all that. Harry Palmer gets up and grinds coffee beans for breakfast and the spooky music is a classic of British movies. The Dexter music may be a complete ripoff, but that very reason, the opening credits are some of the best of any I have ever seen on TV, can't wait for series 7 here in the UK!
