Game Over is/was "imo" an Arcade Cabinet tradition which was carried over to console gaming as a way to preserve the "Arcade Experience" by bringing it also to the home! I myself loved the idea, since I'm a big arcade fan! I remember in 1986 pumping quarters in an arcade place in NY city. Those were the days... until the early 90s when Street Fighter showed up... were the golden age of Arcade gaming! Not forgetting the great SNK franchises like King of Fighters and that contra like shooter which I forget the name now. But I was really a sidescroller platformer fan.
I don't know if you know this, but when the portals came up, one of them was red, indicating that you couldn't enter. Since UA-cam converts videos to 30 fps, you can't see the red beam. It should be visible in the uncut version. The link is in the description.
When you recorded the SMB Game Over, you earlier did a glitch where you stay Super Mario after colliding with Bowser, which when you obtain a Mushroom will shrink you down to normal size, and picking up a Fire Flower will turn you into Fire Mario (but still normal size).
@Metalzoner You're welcome, & the game at 6:18 is Star Voyager (sorry, didn't see the comment below). I can't believe I actually beat that game; will never forget that day; I had pizza for dinner that night.
@Minan3 It happens when you run out of E's shown at the top & die. Then you have to start the whole area all over again instead of the section you were at. That's why I love that one - epic failure. The music sounds good too.
What a painful loss on Bases Loaded! To rally in the bottom of the 9th with nine runs, hit a fly ball to left with the tying run crossing the plate and the ball carrying where a homer wins it, falls a bit short.
@Knux95 Nope, Starfox made it's first appearance on the SNES. I think the one at 00:18 is either space invaders or caterpillar. Hard to tell since there are quite a few shooter games in that style.
The game at 3:34 - Ghosts 'n' Goblins - I used to freakin' LOVE that game!! It scared me, but it didn't give me nightmares or anything. I doubt I could even play it at night now without getting creeped out. But it was fun, even though I couldn't even beat the first few levels... I'm not so good at video games.
Well, You haven't played City Connection,Battletoads, Bump'n Jump(Buggy Popper) and Dragon Buster, Little Nemo: Dream Master, Renegede, Freedom Force, Gun Smoke, Dragon's Lair?
1:43 great donkey kong tune! 1:59 excitebike tune! ranking #43..... i like that game.... 2:25 good balloon fight tune..... 2:24 great tune! 3:24 excellent tune! 4:18 very excellent tune! great video....
What do you mean? That Tennis clip is very real - I couldn't beat that freakin' guy on that difficulty. Also many of these are based on things that happened - like in Gradius, I actually made it to the end once & crashed.
ha los recuerdos, camo era realmente dificiles, era l que mas veias, y casi todoas son iguales, G E N I A L THANKS, FOR THE VIDEO, IT'S GREAT TO PLAY THE NES
Thank you so much for the answer (and I will look up all those games:). Mappy I already knew, I meant the one after Mappy (the game with the ninja)? Oh and dont believe I commented on this before but awesome video. Many memories from dying in these games as a kid.
I'll admit; this whole thing has been "premeditated," for lack of a better word (look at Track & Field). But many of these are based on things that actually happened when I was playing, like Section-Z, Rygar, & Devil World. As for Rad Racer, I had something like that happen, but this one's exaggerated.
But the "Don't try too hard." one does - seriously, you can beat a boss, acquire an item, then die to save time & be put back to the save point with your items intact. The game's Faxanadu, by the way. Famicom Xanadu?
Never played City Connection, barely played Bump 'n Jump, haven't played Dragon Buster, recently played Little Nemo, haven't gotten to Renegade yet, don't even know what Freedom Force is, still need to get Gun Smoke, & Dragon's Lair?
its a glitch that if he touched you and the hatchet at the end of a castle as big mario, he would keep his size but will still be as vulnerable as small mario.

NES developers: "GEE, SUPER SCARY BLACK SCREEN WITH 'GAME OVER' ON IT WILL TOTALLY NOT TRAUMATIZE THE KIDS OR ANYTHING"
I just noticed the Baseball and Tennis games have the same Game Over/You Win jingle
I don't know if you know this, but when the portals came up, one of them was red, indicating that you couldn't enter. Since UA-cam converts videos to 30 fps, you can't see the red beam. It should be visible in the uncut version. The link is in the description.

0:39 You won and lost at the same time! Lol!
A soul for a soul
@Luirio In this case, the clock ran out. You also can jump off a cliff or into lava... take your pick.
LMAO, Duck Hunt, 0:58, you fail so bad a dog is laughing at you!
@Metalzoner
You're welcome, & the game at 6:18 is Star Voyager (sorry, didn't see the comment below).
I can't believe I actually beat that game; will never forget that day; I had pizza for dinner that night.
Which reminds me, never stand up if ever you are on a moving raft in a low-ceiling cavern.
You cannot go wrong with the pre-1987 NES games (Excitebike, Pinball, Tennis, Duck Hunt, etc...)
@Minan3
It happens when you run out of E's shown at the top & die. Then you have to start the whole area all over again instead of the section you were at. That's why I love that one - epic failure. The music sounds good too.
This video is 10 years old and I still enjoy this!
2 things:
1. Same
2. Epic profile picture
It sounds like the game over theme from Ice Climber is laughing at you for dying
Wild Gunman had the most unexpected turn in death/game over music
What a painful loss on Bases Loaded! To rally in the bottom of the 9th with nine runs, hit a fly ball to left with the tying run crossing the plate and the ball carrying where a homer wins it, falls a bit short.
@Minan3
I think you're talking about Section Z, a Capcom game that claims you as Captain Commando in the manual.
Honestly, they use the classic font for almost every game
The Gumshoe Death always make me laugh. One of the funniest NES deaths ever.
you have good tastes for classic games
Good work I found it fairly nihilistic playing games to die, but you get into the swing of it
I think no less than a million memories came back to me in a ten minutes video, thanks man
These Game Overs are also known as Etrigan's favorite video game moments.
Wow! More! And add some obscure Famicom titles too! :)

Yeah, that would really be appreciated if you'd list all the titles shown on this video in order so we can know what the names of all these games are.
4:30- when they trip, it looks like footage of me doing any sport. I miss the awesome music and the sheer difficulty of those old games.
Has anyone ever realized they use the EXACT SAME FONT FOR EVERY GAME OVER SCREEN?!
It's the 80s gaming era. Of course they do. ;)
@MrDanyo96
I've never seen that before. Is it better than the "lying down while jumping on an enemy's back" death?
I saw this when I was 6 years old. This actually got me into Nintendo. lol (what I meant by that is that I became a loyal fan)
Well, You haven't played City Connection,Battletoads, Bump'n Jump(Buggy Popper) and Dragon Buster, Little Nemo: Dream Master, Renegede, Freedom Force, Gun Smoke, Dragon's Lair?

That is Super Macho Man. And no one is the winner here.

Wild Gunman, thanks. Right after the shot, but before "game over" i thought sounded pretty cool =3
I did forget all about the part 2's in case you haven't noticed. Thanx. :)
@BrnoFlowZone
Let's see, Nuts & Milk, F-1 Race, Mappy, Ninja-kun, Mach Rider, Yie Ar, Balloon Fight, Track & Field, Volleyball, & Star Force. Did I miss any?
What do you mean? That Tennis clip is very real - I couldn't beat that freakin' guy on that difficulty.

Mappy I already knew, I meant the one after Mappy (the game with the ninja)?
Oh and dont believe I commented on this before but awesome video. Many memories from dying in these games as a kid.
What is the music at the very beginning of the video? Been looking for it for a while!
I'd say "How can you not tell?" but I realize the video quality isn't exactly HD. It's Space Invaders.

3:25 is 'Commando' or something like that, right?
Every "Game Over" music for all NES including a few that I have from the end of every "MTN Shorts" episode with me, Shirley Temple and Bojangles.
You mean Tiger Heli? The one you can't see anything because it's constantly flickering & because the video is at 30fps?
Yes, and there was also a version on the Game Boy;wich I think it`s the best racing game ever.
The Nes version is also fantstic.
What is the name of the game with the 4th game over? The one with the blue devil on top. That guy can be summoned with an item in Smash Brawl right?
What's the game at 1:33? that death music sounded epic.
Star Voyager - a very interesting & early flight game that I spent a great deal on... it had no replay value :/
I'll admit; this whole thing has been "premeditated," for lack of a better word (look at Track & Field). But many of these are based on things that actually happened when I was playing, like Section-Z, Rygar, & Devil World. As for Rad Racer, I had something like that happen, but this one's exaggerated.
Wonderful job! What's the name of the 1,53' game???
Thank you James C for fixing the video
@NeoAdonis666
I'm glad you noticed that - I was able to JUST miss it by mere milliseconds.
But the "Don't try too hard." one does - seriously, you can beat a boss, acquire an item, then die to save time & be put back to the save point with your items intact.
The game's Faxanadu, by the way. Famicom Xanadu?
...Ahh!!! That game!!! I couldn't complete that game when I was little. Someone tell me, what is that game at 7:42?
If you haven't noticed, I picked the first of many NES series.
ie. Mega Man 1, Double Dragon 1, TMNT 1... part 2 will have the sequels.
@Knux95 Wild Gunman is the game. the game has 3 parts. and that's the 3rd.
Best game over screen wasn't even in this list!
Friday the 13th had the greatest one of all time in my opinion!
Never played City Connection, barely played Bump 'n Jump, haven't played Dragon Buster, recently played Little Nemo, haven't gotten to Renegade yet, don't even know what Freedom Force is, still need to get Gun Smoke, & Dragon's Lair?
In its inception. Oh, what's this? I'm going to be gone for 7 months. I guess I'll start working on it when I get back. :/
That flashing part is actually longer in the game... I cut it short.
Thanks for this arrangement. This abridged version is nothing short of hilarious! I laughed until I cried!
@WinGuysd
Would one of them happen to be Seal Clubber?
1:10
i never saw game over screens once i got my hand on game genie...
have an idea, how about a nes winning "stage clear" compilation!
giant LOL ant 2:16 ! xD nice video man keep it up!
its a glitch that if he touched you and the hatchet at the end of a castle as big mario, he would keep his size but will still be as vulnerable as small mario.
lol some of these games not only piss you off because you died but the game over music and scene really pisses you off equally or greater as well!! 8)
4:23 It is Rush 'n' Attack in USA has not allowed continue but Green Beret in Japan has allowed continue!
I recall 12 of these games. Cool.
1:01
Yes, you can laugh all you want. That was your dinner!
Ugh the tmnt death.I can't tell you how many times I've heard that music.
@corporalkills
Commando (戦場の狼), by Capcom; also known as Senjou no Ookami; released Nov of 1986 in the U.S., Sept 27th 1986 in Japan, arcade released 1985
But 6:05 game was sky kid that Vs. Arcade Game (Vs. Super Sky Kid) and classic arcade hit game, too
@Metalzoner Yep, totally. I wish they would make more of these kind of games.
Stack Up or Wild Gunman?
@Metalzoner its actually "Rush 'n Attack"
Ice Climber. Its were Popo and Nana aka Ice Climbers came from. They have joined the Smash Bros. Characters in Super Smash Bros. Melee.
On parts 2, 3, 4, 5, & 6 respectively
aw, you were at the last boss in Faxanadu!
what were the name of the games after double dribble, and after spy hunter
What game is @ 5:54? It looks SOOOOO familiar...
3:35 How did you changed Arthur from Frog?
What are the games at
00:33 - 00:38
01:33 - 01:41 ?
Please tell me. Thanks.
That was my original video. I had to cut it short to fit UA-cam standards at the time.
The arcade version calls them the Mad Maulers.
what game is that on 7:52?I really want to know.
8:17
Big Boss: Snake, status report! Respond! Snake?? SNAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE!!!!!
Hey, Where is the Hyper Sports?
Oh, I see. This is the first time I've ever heard of that glitch before, though.
LOL Definetely Commando. Bionic Commando's Game Over music is a lot more upscale than heard here.
Few of these bring back memories of smashing my controllers.
There are no sequels on this video
may i know what's the game at 6:14 please? thanks
in the game back to future where is the game over screen?
