    Hello Rich,
I found your channel on a sienci forum linking to this video. Setting up my machine is time consuming and I am getting to a point that I am going to focus on remote monitoring and controling the machine to the point I only have to put down material on it. I already have my cadcam software running in VR on my oculus quest, so I can virtualy control the machine and the pc it is running on, from anywhere (mostly home.)
I was and still am going to point a view security cameras at the machine because that system is working 24/7 and already up and running, but this lightburn camera hack of yours is must have next level and I am so gratefull I came across it on that forum. Even if it might not be compatible with an 48-30 inch machinebed you wont use completely anyhow when using the laserfunction, I must look into this camera integration you have going on your machine. I love it!
    Thank you again!

I just bought a cheap $9 webcam off amazon and set my laser (Sculpfun S9) up with 2020 extrusions like how you did yours. thanks for the idea. Worked great. I've been having so much fun with Lightburn and this new camera setup. Makes it so easy to play around with stuff now. Just been grabbing anything I can find to set on the bed then update the photo and put text on and burn. Comes out perfect. Alot better than I thought it would work. Kepp up they great videos. Love this video too, Rich. I was a little confused at first, as I didn't see anywhere where you said to plug the camera into a USB port on your computer. You did mention about cable length and reaching the computer. So I assumed you meant it plugs into a USB port on the PC/Mac/Linux computer. I opened the camera control in light burn and added my laptop's camera to confirm that my assumption was right. 😉 Thank again.

*UPDATE* Lightburn Software responded and said my calibrating sheet was too large. I reduced it by 50% and the lens calibrated perfectly! *Thank you @Lightburn Software!
This is mostly a DIY build. I added the software hack if you can't get your camera working, which many people can't. Yes, there are multiple ways to get it working, but the hack just takes less time and works just as well. *Hope you enjoy the video!*

Had the same issue with one of the cameras I used, fix was to print the dot pattern half-sized then it recognised it (that was also an 8MP 3rd party camera). Worth a try. Anyway yes - having the camera is very useful indeed. Lightburn itself still throws up errors with weird offsets sometimes (even with one of their own cameras) so keep checking with the frame button if burning on something valuable. Also, if you find your camera window freezes and the Update Overlay button greys out, just select camera = none, then reselect your camera again. It will start working again. It's a known issue...
As a final step after you have marked your 4 circles for alignment and the wizard completes, draw two diagonal lines from the their centers before you move anything. Burn those then update the overlay, you will immediately see if there are any errors in alignment and you can adjust the X-Y offsets and scale (height). Hopefully it's already spot on but if not you can make those fine adjustments. Hit 'Save Settings' to keep those offsets for next time.

    • @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy
      @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy  2 роки тому

I've been using the camera for a while now Chris. I haven't had any of the problems you talk about yet. The camera freezing is a USB issue. I've already forwarded the information to Jason, the owner of Lightburn. But this video was just a build and work around the known issues that so many people just give up on. Thanks for watching and your feedback!

  • @sitgesvillaapartmentneilsc7924

Great Video, thank you, technically its not really a hack, its built into the software but the manual for the camera in lightburn is utterly dreadful and new users are left wondering what the hell to do. I have asked many times for Lightburn to produce some better training videos and some tutorials in their documentation on the setup and workflow.
The camera option in Lightburn is outstanding and in my opinion half the cost of the software is worth it just for this function. I have set up many different types of cameras on my C02 lasers and even used a 50mm Pancake DSLR lens on a old Nikon I have retired , Its perfect as a camera in lightburn even, the resolution is incredible an I have managed to place a dot on to some paint on the top of a pin. It does take awhile though to get that rez sorted.
If your running Lightburn and a laser then install a camera now, you will open up so much more or what Lightburn can do and how your workflow can be improved and totally changed in some instances. For alignment it is critical to use the overlay always, you cna then easily put text on the side of pencils , chopsticks and other similar things . It really just makes life a lot easier....
I will continue to kick Lightburn nicely to get this cameras sorted. You should be aware though that by using a non lightburn camera on Windows your settings will always default to the lowest resolution for that lens, its a problem and the only way to change this is to use a lightburn camera.which has had a modification made to it.
If your a Mac owner like me then its not a issue.
Couple of points, If youre using T nuts or drops in be careful , they are not safe until they are tightly done up! If your using those small angle brackets, use a square as they are easy to tighten off centre, they fracture easily as well if over square, use the A frame or a support to help them.
In Camera Calibration if your not 15 inches above the bed you may very well have problems calibrating, if this is the case like with K40 users and those who are under the 15 inch distance then you can calibrate off laser, simply put your calibration card on the wall or the floor and hold using a tripod or other support your camera above or at the calibration card until you get a perfect calibration then simply remount the camera back in the machine and carry on.
I have decided to subscribe, its a good training video and well presented. Thanks again

Anyway, I've calibrated the LightBurn camera ( 5 - 120) and it is working perfectly ( I did it your way with the white background) However...I've done exactly as you both have done...make an update to show working area.. which has my 4" x 4'" square coaster in the middle of the bed.I made my graphic (actually yours the angry bird...lol) and put it in the center. When framing the laser it went to the right and framed a square......no where near the actual coaster square. Am I missing something? Ya, I've got XTool D1 10 Watt. Great video brother! I have a question in reference to the software hack. Would I use this with a LightBurn camera when I'm using the medium enclosure due to height difference? I have my camera connected to the medium length extrusion that came with it and is attached to the upper rear and middle support of the enclosure. I was able to calibrate the camera lense and the alignment per your video, but my numbers on my target paper were flipped for some reason. Also the setting you have at 100 in the alignment screen, would that need to change to get the proper size because the camera is now about 460mm and not 570 from the engraving surface, where they recommend? Thanks for you help. I hope I wasn't confusing. This seems to be the work around I come up with if you don't have the large high enclosure.

    • @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy

It is an Aufero Laser 1 and I was wondering if you think I could add a camera to it. I'm asking because during your setup LightBurn says it needs at least 200x200 which is larger than my print area. I know this is late, but maybe it will help someone else: Use the Scale option to lower it. For example, set scale = 80 (%) and it will make it a 160x160 ... conversely you can scale up to cover a bigger area.

@@Now-YouKnow Yes you can adjust the size of the pattern with the 'Scale' parameter and it's wise to set it to maybe 80% of bed. This isn't an incompatible camera - if Lightburn requests a hi-res image and when you click the 'Capture' button and it gets one back then it's compatible. If Lightburn requests a hi-res image and gets a crappy 640x480 image back (like it does with a Logitech C920 webcam) then it's incompatible. Everything else depends on scale of the dot pattern and whether the background is clean. The distortion correction algorithm doesn't cope well with a complex pattern in the background and can be a bit fussy at the best of times.
