Read an article by Jarrett Bailey called THE TOMLIN PROBLEM. And as far as i am concerned, Tomlin should be told to step down after the 2025 draft is completed. A kinder act to a man who is overrated. He is just a coordinator at best. A great motivator? But his team hasn't had success in the playoffs resulting in no AFC CHAMPIONSHIP games in a long while.

Do not be fooled. Tomlin is a genius. Unless your team is going to be #1 seed, there's no point in worrying how the cards fall after that, because homefield advantage truly matters for the division championship. So, here's the genius of Mike Tomlin. The primary goal was to clinch the playoffs before the start of the last quarter of the season. Knowing that he faced great teams across a 3 game stretch in unfair 11 day period, Tomlin decided to experiment with those games. The last quarter of the season was going to turn out one of two ways for the Steelers no matter what. They would be facing teams that they already know that they can beat, Chargers, Broncos, and Ravens. They know they can beat these teams is because they did beat each of those teams this season. This is why he took a calculated risk to test his team against the toughest teams on their schedule, Eagles, Ravens, and Chiefs. Basically, he measured how successful certain schemes, sub packages, and players against these teams. Now, this does not mean they did not try to win those games, but if they lost they would walk into the playoffs knowing exactly what their strengths and weaknesses are that will give them best chance to win against any of the following playoff opponents. Texans, Charges, Broncos, and Ravens. As of right now, the Steelers have a higher probability of playing the Texans. With all this in mind, the Steelers are right where they want to be. If they dominate against the Bengals then that means they have utilized their last three losses effectively. Steelers fan must be patient and wait for the Playoffs to see how this will shake out. If they lose in the Wild Card, then heads should roll, but for now, everyone need to hold their horses and watch the magic unfold before their eyes.

@CharlesMasterTech Thanks for responding. By the way, I am very sober, and I do not indulge in an activity that intoxicates my pristine vessel. With that out of the way, you must learn to speak life over others. There's a known psychological phenomenon where people tend to perform better when they are expected to do so. Changing head coaches will set this team back a few years, and we are getting closer to becoming legitimate contenders. Don't get me wrong, I understand it's frustrating to see the Steelers lose three games in a row, but there's always a silver lining. Their first-round playoff opponents are teams that the Steelers can beat. At worst, they'll play the Texans; at best, they'll play the Chargers. Do you really believe the Steelers can not beat those two teams?

Never good enough to be a SB contender, but just good enough to never have a high draft pick. This is Pittsburgh, where "winning seasons" mean Super Bowls and postseason success. You didn't make the playoffs? To Steeler nation you had a losing season. You get bounced in the 1st round? To Steeler nation you had a losing season. You get smoked in a playoff game in that you were favored to win? To Steeler nation you had a losing season. Non-Losing seasons (18) is commendable, I'm not taking anything away from that. But I think Mike Tomlin has taken this team as far as he is going to. And the recent criticism over the previous two years is long overdue. He has done a poor job evaluating DB/CB's, and his Coordinators and position Coaches have been horrible. I wouldn't be surprise if they dropped these last two games, ending the year on a five game losing streak. His playoff record is atrocious! The standard should always be being actual contenders for the sb but under Tomlin the team always falls flat (in recent and previous years), the defense is never good enough when we play good/elite teams even though its Tomlins area, the offense in recent years has been awful, he always gets outcoached in big games and this will never change, we might be able to win a playoff game in the next years but winning a sb under him is out of the picture. I understand what you're saying, to some extent, but on the other hand, he's lost the locker room more than once in the past few years at this point in the season. That doesn't happen if everybody is on the same page, and that's definitely not the case right now, nor was it a few years ago with plenty of locker room rumblings and frustration. Part of that is his telling to the press that there will be changes made, with nothing of significance resulting from them. Canada's firing last year, for example, took way too long.

I think Tomlin’s coaching tenure has had its ups and downs. I appreciate his “don’t blink” mentality and his insistence in “the standard being the standard”. Every locker room, at some point, does need a change of voices, and every coach needs a change of scenery as well. Despite Andy Reid’s success in Philly, the change was necessary for both him and his former team, and they both have the Lombardi’s to prove it.
I’m thankful for all Tomlin has accomplished and all he represents, but I think the time is approaching for that change. I believe that he and the Steelers will both get that next Lombardi- just not together.

  • @Hiddenshadow76
    @Hiddenshadow76 2 дні тому

Regardless of circumstances, rosters, expectations, draft picks, and any other variable you want to throw in, there is one reality. Excluding Marvin Lewis, Tomlin has the longest consecutive season streak for one team in nfl history to not win a playoff game and still coach for the same team. His streak is 7 years on one team without a playoff win. If he fails this year to win a playoff game, he will be in sole possession of most consecutive seasons coached without a playoff win for one team at 8. Also, I am well aware that Tomlin is far from the only aspect of this team, because they still need to rebuild at qb, runningback, cornerback, etc. But when overly optimistic fans tell me that the team should just keep him because he hasn't truly had a bad season, I have to chuckle a bit. I'll examine the records for Pittsburgh since the 2012 season to further explain what I mean.
    2012-13: 8-8 missed the playoffs
    2013-14: 8-8 missed the playoffs
    2014-15: 11-5 lost in 1st round
2015-16: 10-6 lost in 2nd round (won 1 playoff game)
2016-17: 11-5 lost in 3rd round (won 2 playoff games)
2017-18: 13-3 lost in 2nd round (had 1st round bye so no playoff win)
    2018-19: 9-6-1 missed playoffs
    2019-20: 8-8 missed playoffs
    2020-21: 12-4 lost in 1st round
    2021-22: 9-7-1 lost in 1st round
    2022-23: 9-8 missed playoffs
    2023-24: 10-7 lost in 1st round
    2024-25: 10-6 season pending
●Of these seasons, three of them were not actually winning seasons at 8-8.
●Six of these seasons were at or barely over .500.
●Of these seasons, only one season has Tomlin had a 1st round bye.
●Only 2 of these seasons has Tomlin hit 12 wins which by most standards is the mark of an elite team.
●They have not won a division title in 4 seasons.
●Lastly, they have been in one AFC championship in the last 13 seasons. The last one is less recent than the Jacksonville Jaguars.
    What's the conclusion?
While Tomlin's teams have generally been in contention for the playoffs, only maybe two to three of those teams were true Superbowl contenders in the last 13 to 14 years. That's not to say Tomlin has done a bad job but rather he has hit his ceiling as a head coach and after 18 seasons he only offers so much to this team that he hasn't already accomplished.

The issues - 1. A habit of holding on to really bad back-up QBs for way too long. 2. Failure to slowly renew O-line, instead allowing the whole thing to age out. 3. Poor coaching and scheming in secondary. Even when we have had talented CBs, the secondary sucked and has relied on star safeties to keep us in the fight. 4. A lot of poor choices for coaches. 5. Fear of change. Lebeau's D became predicatable, but at least he was the architect. Now we keep trying to run that same idea with different coaches. It is not those coaches idea, it is still predictable, and it is not well executed. 6. Let me mention the secondary woes again - I miss Troy. 7. A lack of fire and urgency from Mike in the late minutes. No inspiration, push, fire to come back in the end. 8. The assumption of Tomlin's greatness because he has managed to be at 500 or better - but look at the talent he has had. He didn't go to Superbowl when he had a good D, the best QB, RB, WR and TE combo in the game. Ben had back to back 6 td games ffs. 9. Thinking Ben was done, Duck wasn't worth keeping, not giving Pickens a real chance all because rather than having an O-line, we had a NO-line. Watch the games closely. There are those giving it their all plus some, and others just LAZY. When that goes on and on, it all goes back to the HC. Tomlin isn't terrible, but he isn't great. We need great.

The caliber of our coach is abnormal, Mike is that top 10% coach that you rarely get. The Steelers have had three consecutive coaches that are very good. Though I will say coach Cower for years worked hard with inept quarterbacks. We can go back to our scrambling quarterback in Kordell etc. and see the issues. There are only a couple coaches in the league I would consider better than Mike. However, I must tell you a quarterback is the coach stand in on the field. This person needs to be given the leadership role with full confidence, and all the other players should know it. If any other player has issues and attempts to be alpha over the quarterback then it is up to Tomlin to watch and nurture the quarterback into the top Alpha position, there is what we call chemistry and the best chemistry gives the best results. We consistently see the respect that the quarterback receives in Kansas City, this man sounds like Kermit the frog, and does a lot of crazy shit most of us would scratch our heads over, but he has repeated successes. We watched this with Rothlisberger, and had some success as well. if there was no time measurement and you could go back in time then we would have to not only fire Mike we would also have to fire Bill. Yes the caliber of our coach is equal if not better than Bill Keller. I will submit that if Mike coaches for years to come he will surpass Bill easily. This is when I start asking what is this really about? I think fans need to stop. If there is anything that Bill and Mike do is make occasional clubs in coaching, or they allow their coaches they are over club. I mean there are plenty of instances for instance taking chance on fourth down when it is not necessary early in a game. Both have done this. It is rare but it has been done. I also believe it has cost us the game and a few instances. Other than that the area where we need to reinforce his offensive line around the pocket and the quarterback and his wide receivers. We have a decent defense we have the Iron Curtain when it is healthy it is perfect. If anything we need to reinforce our secondary so they can play better than they do and what I mean by secondary is our B team. I am bothered that we only have one wide receiver that is a consistent threat, this is inappropriate and I blame it on the owner not the coaches. We can do much better and we also need to have a more established set of options to draw from in plays. We are becoming too predictable over the past five games. I know when we're going to run and I know when we're going to pass and that is a big problem against teams like Kansas City, the Eagles, the ravens, the commanders, the Lions, the Vikings etc. I also fully believe that when we see and record a team that does several plays and they do it well we should be looking to mimic those plays because of their consistent successes against various teams. I've seen certain moving plays with the Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs that I admire that our team should be mimicking. Yes we should be surfing these moving interference plays that open up the spot pass or whatever you wanna call it into a deep run because we have everybody in place to cause interference and block. They are superb at this in Kansas City.

Injuries, officiating, and scheduling contributed to the problem, but it wasn’t like they didn’t know these things were coming. The NFL set up the Steelers for failure. It wasn’t an accident. They didn’t want Tomlin and Russ to win second SBs together. The NFL is crooked.

Tomlin needs to hire a game strategist to help him coach during a game. He regularly gets outcoached during games. Other teams pick up fourth-and-one like clockwork and the Steelers don't. Those play calls haven't changed(although the OC has) since 2007 when it was Mewelde Moore up the middle for no yards and turnover on downs. For someone who has as much experience as he does, it's not acceptable. Or just trade him and fire Austin.

He needs to go now, it’s about time we start change instead of sticking with the same results with mediocre Mike!

@@kanzazboiiOh boy, it’s still not mediocre Mike’s fault when they got destroyed the past 3 games!

It’s not all on tomlin we don’t really have that much talent on offense! Our OL is horrible and lackluster WR core. Our first round OL picks so far look like misses we’ll see how this goes but next year we need to LOAD UP this team and put all our chips in for the next 2-3 years. TJ and cam only have so much time playing at an elite level
