My Mom was born in 1935 and remembered this song! She said it was impossible to forget even as a child. She used to sing it and i had absolutely no idea what she was saying lol!! I later became a huge fan of 20's,30's, and 40's Big Bands and found the song. She almost cried hearing it for the first time since those awful very different times. She said it was little things like that song that helped everyone get through it.

That’s so nice. My mom was the soprano in the debutantes. I’ve been trying to find recordings of the songs they sang in the wizard of oz. I still have all of the mimeographed sheet music except for the two songs they sang. They did a voiceover for the ballerinas and the song I think was called out of the woods, when they came out of the poppy field. I’m still trying to find someone that can appraise them but anyone I talk to wants to know who the publisher is. I try to explain that there isn’t a publisher. These are the working copies that are mimeographed.

Back in those days Hawaii was considered a true paradise most Americans would ever see in their lifetime unless they were rich or in the military. Nobody would ever imagine dozens of jets out of San Francisco daily could get them there reasonably in 3 hours.

This song for me is nostalgic as I always associate it with The Little Rascals in Mike Fright

Unfortunately the transcript has mistakes in it that are quite noticeable. The recording is wonderful.... It's just too bad that they couldn't get the lyrics right in the transcript.

Sorry, but several authoritative sources say this song was recorded and published in 1938.

No 'sorry' necessary. ;-) The popular 1934 song hit had been written in 1933 and first recorded that year by two different Hawaiian groups prior to this popular Ted Fio Rito release on Brunswick (recorded December 13, 1933). Fio Rito did later make a different re-recording of the song for the Decca label on April 20, 1938, which you can listen to here in order to compare the versions: ua-cam.com/video/JlUyC2khAI4/v-deo.html

@@the78prof72 Darla from the "Little Rascals" also sang it before 1938, I believe.

This song is a direct rip off of
"Back in Hackensack, New Jersey", composed in 1924 by Dan A. Russo and Art L. Biner.
