Excellent work with a minimal setup. Great choice of modules to use together also. Really cool track.
Thank you. This was enjoyable, and inspiring.
Cool vibe. Nice things in small packages!
Beautiful
Love it! Well done sir
wait where is the output of the dsp ?
I'm starting on the modular journey quite soon myself. Bought the case. So that's a start. Hysteria has been in my eyeline....that's the first module I wanna get.
Make sure you have some way to get note information to it- maybe a MIDI module or a sequencer or a keyboard that speaks cv. And hard to get a full voice without an filter and some type of envelope and vca- those modules in my rack worth considering
@@bartdecrem4092 oh I definitely do. I have a korg sq-1, korg volcas, Behringer model d, arturia keystep and microfreak. So I'm good there just never made a custom rack before and it's exciting. Thanks for tip.
Really good choice to start. I started with it myself about a year ago. Hysteria is fantastic. CV inputs for each slider, quantizer (which is awesome), pulsewidth slider, all the waveforms. Can't go wrong starting there...and the price is outstanding. I got Hysteria, Ataxia and Eudemonia at first which gives you a full mono synth voice right there.
I think there is a lot to be said for smaller minimal set ups. I find my creativity changes greatly when I limit myself to 3 or 4 modules. This is an amazing track thanks for posting it!
Super demo and track.
Beautiful!
Very cool patch!
okay, that was excellent. bravo!!
Very nice work 👍 Subscribed
really really nice man!!!! Can you please share a little about what's happening in this patch, where the different elements are from, if there's any other drums/tracks added, effects, etc? Really appreciate the vibes :-)
just saw your video explaining a bit about this setup! LOL Thank you for the info!
@@greatlakestrader The core patch is what you see in the video - from marbles into the dreadbox, some filter, some pica DSP. But after we did the jam there was a lot of in-the-box production work, incl additional reverb, drums added etc. thanks for the kind words!
Nice music, but this isn't a performance is it? I'm following the patch cable routing and you are putting everything through the Pico DSP but aren't taking the outs anywhere.
Unless I'm missing something... but you are definitely right. This is a prerecorded track and he is just pretending to do stuff on the fly. I don't know where all the audio is going... it just stops at the Pico DSP. 🤦♂️ Very strange video.
Your demo is sounding amazing, but I have troubles understanding the chain. It seems like the Pico DSP's output is not plugged, and that the pots don't affect the sound. Did you make the video after having made the track, as it sounds pretty like the SoundCloud's version?
Anyway, your very simple setup makes me want to get to Eurorack world more and more!
Thanks, Nicolas! The patch in the track was done on that little lunchbox synth. Jamming Marbles mostly, jamming feedback & distortion on the PICO DSP, maybe a little decay jamming on the envelope. But we then took it into Ableton where we did some EQ & other production & added drums. I made the video later, just for fun, and yeah, forgot to connect the PICO. I just recreated a very similar set of capabilities with a Turing Machine and Scales module... but I have to say this lunchbox synth is a ton of fun, once you figure out how to play marbles (it's got a mind of its own etc) - so I recommend! (I rarely use the LFO in that particular rig)
Knap gedaan Bart, hoe een simpele setup toch heel mooi kan zijn
So what exactely comes from this modules in this video, in real time?
Are you using the quantize function on the Hysteria module, or is Marbles sending quantization of the scale? Also, how are you using the Sinc Bucina?
Hi John, my favorite quantizer module is Scales by Intellijel, which I think is hard to find these days. I don't like the built-in quantizer in Marbles - the UI makes it fussy to control for my taste. I think I used Hysteria for this session. And I used the sinc as a simple envelope generator IIRC
With what are you clocking Marbles?
I think i was using a Midi-CV breakout module for that. Or maybe I was using a TR-8s as the in-between.
@@bartdecrem4092 Excuse my ignorance, but how!? 😄 I'm looking to get into modular and my first concern is how to actually sync all of these wonderful creations with a session on my computer. You say Ableton, but how is Ableton actually sending that clock information to Marbles, through another module off screen or straight from your audio interface? I'm confused 🤦♂️
Very cool!😄 Thanks for sharing! What are you using for the drums? They sound great too.
Sadly, the answer is: my producer friend (Pedro Arbulu, super talented and knows how to make drums so snappy and full of energy)
@@bartdecrem4092 Not sad at all! It's great to have collaborators who do awesome things.
I understand this is not a direct performance but a recreations as the vca is not at all plug to anything ;)
That is correct! We used this exact mini rack, but then post production and drums in ableton
Goedenavond Bart,
(Faster to reply in English). Yes, that is the correct signal flow: marbles is the sequencer, tells the VCO which notes to generate. The Erica pico dsp has six or so digital effects including reverb and delay. The low pass filter is to remove the high ends “harmonics” that can be a little unpleasant. Almost every synth sounds uses low pass filter to remove more or less of that.
The sinc bucina combines two important parts of most synths: envelope generator and VCA. It gets triggered by Marbles as well and then (1) creates a shape for each sound: how fast is the attack, how long does the note ring out after you “stop holding down the key” etc and (2) it then sets an overall loudness volume. Very space efficient to combine those two functions.
This is a 4ms “powered” case. I think 60hp? It’s an awesome small synth but if you’re new at synth you should consider that Marbles is not very beginner friendly. I love it and it’s an amazing “random exploration” module.
@@bartdecrem4092 Thanx for all the info. The setup above sounds awesome. I'm trying to build a portable synth myself and this looks like a great example. Oh, and where is the audio output located?
In this setup the end of the signal path is filter -> vca -> dsp, and the dsp generates two stereo output channels. So I plug those straight into my uad interface
Much appreciate the kind comments. The full track is at soundcloud.app.goo.gl/8EtbZkWCbWkSgyXV9
A few ways: 1/ get a midi interface module such as 2hp Midi to CV 2/ use an instruments such as the Roland tr-8s, that connects to ableton via usb, but has clock out cv connectors 3/ technically you can use your audio interface (such as uad Arrow etc) to send a sound signal to your eurorack to act as a clock (cumbersome especially for beginners)
Echt gaaf
Hi there! Just trying to figure out where that kind of "snare" that come into at 1:05 is coming from. May you help me understand?
This is one of my all time favs really nice melody and sound!
THANK YOU - your comment made my day!
